Trump has been found guilty on all 34 charges by a united jury!

Being very cynical but I think that will give him a shedload of extra votes. They have different rules there it seems !

You may be spot on! On BBC News last night Gary O'Donoghue was reporting from outside the court and he said a poll had been carried out asking voters whether a guilty verdict would change the way they would vote. 6% said they would be less likely to vote for Trump but 24% said they were more likely to vote for him!

Yes, it is all so cringe-worthy watching the political circus going on here in the US these days. I've taken to not reading the news and just concentrate on local issues and enjoying my sons and grandson. Much happier these days. I will vote, of course, but can't waste any more time watching or reading about that divisive clown.

He is an unpleasant person but he is what America needs

Why? And what is your knowledge base for deciding this?

Aveline Fri 31-May-24 07:01:12

How anyone could possibly support him is totally unfathomable. Goodness knows what will happen next.

NotSpaghetti Fri 31-May-24 06:42:59

This wouldn't have happened if he didn't still have massive support and a strong chance of being elected again.
I think this is wildly untrue.

It wouldn't have happened if he had been a truthful and honest person.

He has been convicted by ordinary people for falsifying business records.!

Bonnybanko Fri 31-May-24 06:40:50

Merlotgran yes it is a circus, I watched this on tv last night and he’s still refusing to accept what a jury of his peers have decided (guilty on all 34 federal charges I watched his rant afterwards. There’s no doubt he’s shaken up I now hope he gets his just desserts in July
the American people deserve better

Curtaintwitcher Fri 31-May-24 06:32:13

It was a foregone conclusion. This wouldn't have happened if he didn't still have massive support and a strong chance of being elected again.

I have concerns that this will simply reinforce his ‘look, I’m just like you, the system screws folk like us all the time’ pitch to voters who are poor, dispossessed, and/or genuinely fearful for their role in the USA. It certainly provides another area of common ground with those who are pure small state zealots.

Trump's Golden Motto: "The law applies to everyone except me!"

But I fear for the members of the jury - Trump's supporters, calling themselves The Proud Boys seem to be a bunch of unhinged yahoos who think arguing with a shotgun is the answer to everything.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 31-May-24 06:01:09

I’m sure I read that he isn’t allowed to appeal.

mae13 Fri 31-May-24 04:55:03

Gosh yes, guilty!
I was surprised although I have no doubt that it's the correct verdict. He's got away with so much in the past. And if mysoginy were classified as a criminal offence then he'd have been convicted a million times over.

The right decision, all in all.

But: how on earth does such an individual get to be in the White House in the first place and even get remotely near to doing it all again?

growstuff Fri 31-May-24 04:08:22

Maybe Farage is planning on being proxy President.

denbylover Fri 31-May-24 01:33:32

Dickens

He gave a disjointed rant after the verdict,,,

"The real carnage is gonna be November 5 by the people. And they know what happened here and everybody knows what happened here."

You could be forgiven for thinking that he's encouraging violence.

He said the judge was corrupt, and that he's "a very innocent man".

How can you be very innocent? Either you are innocent or you're not.

He's a conspiracist; the last presidential election was rigged, or "stolen" - the steal as it's called, and now this trial is rigged... it's all fake noos.

And his admirers will love him more and see him now as some kind of martyr...

Oh, America!

Yes it was quite a mouthful wasn’t it, blamed everyone involved….except himself of course! Dare say there will be an appeal, he’s going to use every trick in the book to escape the consequences.

Well! I really thought they would not be able to reach a verdict.

I was reading that whilst it could mean imprisonment, it is doubtful that the judge will go that far for a couple of reasons. First it is a first (?) offence and because it is a paper crime I.E. no violence etc, he will have give Trump something like community service. (Watch thst turn into a complete circus)

Secondly as an ex-president, he is still entitled to security etc and it will be difficult to arrange - but not impossible I’d have thought.

Trump will appeal - so this isn’t done with.

Roll on the next one.

maddyone Fri 31-May-24 00:43:18

How could anyone vote for him after this? Surely it’s the end?

Astitchintime Fri 31-May-24 00:29:30

He will still insist that it is fake news grin

Wyllow3 Thu 30-May-24 23:57:48

I am so glad!

I hope it's the first of the other crimes he is alleged to have committed.

I realise many will think its all an evil plot but heck some good news welcome.

Doodledog Thu 30-May-24 23:36:18

So will he be voted in to run the US from a jail cell? It could be the plot of one of those Netflix shows that runs for 12 seasons.

MayBee70 Thu 30-May-24 23:13:55

Even if they didn’t find him guilty there was no disputing the fact that he’d paid a porn star for sex. And yet people in the Bible Belt still vote for him. There was too much evidence so they had to find him guilty.

Parsley3 Thu 30-May-24 23:09:06

I didn't think they would find him guilty but I am glad the jury did. The American commentators are still saying that he is unlikely to be replaced by the Republican Party. Unbelievable really.

MayBee70 Thu 30-May-24 22:52:33

Yes. Thanks from me, too!

Doodledog Thu 30-May-24 22:48:08

Sorry - meant to say thanks, Oreo!

Wow. I missed it. I was watching Sky Arts!

I missed it too!

Well, that's a turn up for the books (no, not a turnip, Autocorrect!) I wonder what happens next. We are living in 'interesting times' aren't we?
