I will, of course, be voting in the election, and will be prepared to look at the various ideas laid out - using my own brain to choose between lists of 1. sensible suggestion 2. total carrot for election purpose only 3. unbelievable 4. con etc etc. But I also have my own after 9 pm , or I think in my case probably after 7 pm deadline when it comes to tv or radio, where the off button and the mute button will come into play, as I do not want to go to bed seething or furious. I have already practised this whenever I have see that lunatic in the USA Trump talking rubbish. It is fine when you are able to discuss in person with others whatever you wish , and good to hear other points of view , but when you are alone it is no good shouting at the tv! I am a rugby fan and do not follow football at all. I used to have a friend who came round to get away from a house full of football. I might offer a politic free zone for a break as the election gets nearer!! Think it might be quite popular.

My strategy is leaving the Country for a chunk of time pre-election.

Still undecided on where my X will go, but definitely not Lib Dem’s who in my opinion are neither liberal or democratic.

I’m with you on that GG13! We’re returning from a week in Morocco the day before voting - can’t imagine I’ll hear much about our election over there….bliss🙂

Leaving the country to get on with it is the best thing you can do. I've been abroad for two weeks now, with three more to go. Bliss!
Although I do follow the GN polls thread daily!

I want to hear what the two main parties have to say, not avoid it. That is most likely to be in the evening. I just avoid all the commentaries - I still have a few functional brain cells.

Undecided?
You are not alone!

I'm living in hope that they're all firing up for the Silverstone Grand Prix (7th July)! 🔥

I will be away for the 2 weeks before the election, back the day before so I won’t need a postal vote. But I will still be following it online! Still very undecided who to vote for though.

V3ra Sun 02-Jun-24 18:49:49

We fly out just before 6am on Thursday 4th July for two weeks ✈️
Postal vote beforehand, and none of the aftermath ☀️🍹

I’m currently in the US. The headlines here make almost no mention of the UK although today there’s an article about King Charles and David Beckham talking about bees. 😂

There’s plenty about Trump of course, but not my circus, not my monkeys so no decision to be made there.

The "special relationship" thing is really a one way street. From us to them. Not vice versa unless it suits. In my opinion,

Tha ended when bigoted Biden was elected. No other Presidnt has shown such dislike for the UK. Learnt at his Grannies knee no doubt.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 03-Jun-24 12:29:22

Surely you wouldn’t prefer the idiot Trump,*Freya5*? No reason why any US president should like us, is there?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 03-Jun-24 13:16:31

The only thing in Trump’s favour is that he would recognise the special relationship - unlike Biden.

As to my "strategy".
I am pretty much surrounded by people who are very interested.

Probably the last two elections, I have got up in the night.
Not sure I will do that this time. Even though I have nothing in my diary yet, that week.

Will be listening to the debates between the main parties and also reading the parers and listening to the news. I want to make sure I've seen and heard as much as possible before I vote as I'm presently an 'undecided'.
The one person I will not be voting for is the green party woman who to date has bombarded my mailbox with 7 or 8 different letters/brochures/news sheets in the last 3 weeks. The cost of these sometimes glossy outpourings must be enormous not to mention the postage and the environmental aspect of it all.

spabbygirl Tue 04-Jun-24 11:24:00

I don't really bother about what they say but what they do once in office,

Tories want low taxes for billionaires and private companies to provide the few welfare/health services they have to have, they want to cut both down cos they don't want to contribute to someone else's care.

Labour support welfare services, a socialist NHS (cos everyone gets what they need, not what they can afford), I have had to rely on benefits and want others to have that too so I'm voting Labour.

The choice really is that simple

Maremia Tue 04-Jun-24 11:24:38

Is it true that Trump would not be allowed to visit the UK, as he is now a convicted felon?

Witzend Tue 04-Jun-24 11:29:45

I don’t really have any choice about who to vote for - in this constituency (invariably a Con/LD toss up) it’ll have to be tactical.

I will read what they’ve got to say to some extent, but I certainly won’t be listening to much of their blather.

I’m looking forward to election night though. I always stay up watching the results come in for as long as possible. ‘

PoemPoet107 Tue 04-Jun-24 11:32:57

I watch other channels which do not have anything to do with elections, here or in the US, sick of it all already. I don't believe anything any of them say as I know I will be worse off no matter who's in power. My parents were always Labour but that was when Labour really stood for something, Lord know who they stand for now... Hopefully I will have the footie to watch for some of the time as a big footie fan (yes, even as a woman but blame my Dad who got me in to sport when I was very young). Sadly this year I will have it all to myself as hubbie in care home and has left me with the freedom to watch what I please... which won't include electioneering...

I belong to a nationwide group called Compass that looks at voting tactically to vote in progressive MP's in order to improve our whole society. I'll be looking at how my local MP's
can improve my local community.. and voting for the one who seems the most sound..
