Seems Farage has an announcement to make at 4pm today.

Hmm.
Standing as a Reform MP after all?
Emigrating to America to canvass for Trump?
Joining the Tory party?
None of the above?

I shall tune in out of curiosity.

Well out of Sunak, Starmer and Farage, Farage has certainly got the charisma (think Brexit also the Brexit Party gained the most MEPs) OK the left leaning Grans on here don't like/hate him but in the real world he's very popular and as the new Leader of Reform he will be able to do the TV debates, his supporters have been begging him to come back on the forums. He might be marmite but plenty love marmite me included. Richard Tice although I liked him never had the same presence and Nigel Farage is a household name everyone has heard of him.

I think you will find that many of the 'right leaning Grans' such as GSM loathe him. A chancer is a chancer, irrespective of his politics.

Reform:

On May 30, the party announced plans to introduce a migrant tax that would force employers to pay a higher National Insurance (NI) rate on foreign workers.

Writing in The Telegraph, Mr Tice pledged a 20 per cent National Insurance rate for every foreign worker in comparison to the current 13.8 per cent for domestic British workers.

The party has also vowed to abolish the Government’s flagship net zero targets, claiming that the green push is doing more damage to the British economy than anything else.

UKIP won Clacton in 2015.

I don't think they did, their seat was by defection, not election. Douglas Carswell

I know DiamondLily see upthread.

What is wrong with 🇬🇧 being displayed? Palestinian flags are all over central London. No one bats an eyelid.

Well, I’m not a flag waver, or, only during football, but, no, I’ve got no problem with any flag being waved, if it keeps the wavers happy. I live on the London borders, so nothing new. 🤷‍♀️

I’ll be voting on the economy, NHS etc - anything else isn’t as important to me.

But, each to their own. If anyone thinks Farage is the answer, then wonderful, even though I think he’s a self serving opportunist, straight out of the Trump/Johnson playbook.

What's the point of it? Are you a car number plate?

At least a vote for Reform will ensure a Labour win in Urmstongran's constituency. hmm

Delivering on promises Whitewave.
Not taking us for fools.
Reassuring us it’s okay to be patriotic. It’s not a dirty word.
Listening to the voters who have felt betrayed (Brexit, not enacted by a long chalk but we know the Civil Servants don’t want it so we’re duplicitous whenever possible).
Lawless London (and a City near you, no doubt).
Raising of the Personal Allowance instead of this fiscal drag.
I could bore you by getting on my soap box but I’ll spare you (all).
🤣

Hey - I heard it was a big crowd in Clacton and thought it was a bit of click bait exaggeration - but then saw the clip. Incredible!

Blimey! Straight out of Trumps box, - I did think you would come up with something more sensible.

Oh well - so be it.

Words fail me so I’ll leave Nige to it with his followers, who will be mighty disappointed.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:55:02

Defections to Reform apparently over next few days. If I were a one term Red Wall Tory, I'd be seriously considering it.

Oh bloody hell, the little flag is back! Time for a break I think.

Not all good though. He had a drink lobbed all over him.

What they have to offer is no experience whatsoever of government, nor the ability to write a manifesto that doesn’t look like a teenager’s attempt at a power point demonstration.

I’m hoping Whitewave that Reform shake things up a bit. Gawd knows this country needs change (just not Starmer’s vision - for me anyway “the party of envy” - no thanks). Stop promising and then not delivering. Having the COURAGE to believe in our wonderful UK. We here sneer and denigrate patriotism and pride in ourselves. I find it so sad.

Oops! Just seen NF has had banana milkshake thrown all over him in Clacton by a youngish woman. The Tik Tok generation of debate?

But in what way do they need to shake things up.

Shake things up in parliament?
Media?
Economy?
Constitution?

I’m puzzled as to what they have to offer that others haven’t?

*What are you hoping Reform will do that the other parties won’t do*

Nobody seems to know?

Oh I have an enormous long list.

But dont have time to list it all now.
Wont have time for a week.
Will list next week assuming I get time.

Usual stuff though. So dont get excited.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:28:11

Well, the fire has been lit, and there is no way of predicting how brightly it will burn.

Kate1949 Tue 04-Jun-24 15:21:19

I'm not fan of Farage and not remotely interested in politics but that young woman should be charged. That could have been acid.

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Jun-24 15:16:05

But he didn't mention any Reform policies and outline how they might help the people of Clacton.

It's all so completely narcissistic

I this, I that, call me names I lap it up, I'm different from all "them".

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:13:46

Hey -

Reform poses a threat to Tories in 28 seats.
YouGov data indicates Nigel Farage’s party is expected to win more than 20 per cent of the vote across England’s North and Midlands.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:11:21

Oh I don’t know, Wyllow3. This:

“ Nigel Farage has urged the voters of Clacton to “send him to Parliament to be a bloody nuisance” as he relaunched Reform’s general election campaign this afternoon.

Addressing a large crowd in the seat he will fight for on July 4, the Reform leader said: “I will stand up and fight for you, I will give you my best and I will do what I have done for the last quarter of a century in politics.

“I will be unafraid, despite what everybody says, despite what names they call me, they are so stupid it only encourages me really, in fact, send me to Parliament to be a bloody nuisance.”

Gets my vote anyway. 🇬🇧

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Jun-24 15:06:34

All parties are claiming to be patriotic atm.

I couldn't help being amused that Farage had little else to offer in his keynote speech but this word, as empty rhetoric.

Bit like "Make America Great" Trump.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:04:58

Never mind mae13 you don’t have to vote for him. 😁

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:03:56

Actually this milkshake stunt will be electoral gold for Farage as he’ll be on the front pages again!

mae13 Tue 04-Jun-24 15:00:04

So, Nigel Farage and his henchman 30p Lee Anderson are steering Reform now? I can't help thinking Tice has recruited them as a couple of stooges to deflect any brickbats which may be coming his way.

What a shower!
