For those of you who think Angela Rayner is common and not a lady, how about this from Boris Johnson.

As well as the racist connotations of the name change (and don’t forget Mrs. Starmer is Jewish), I find the rest of the words quoted by the mail in their headline quite offensive.

LizzieDrip Tue 11-Jun-24 17:29:00

Carrie Johnson was a victim of John Worboys

I wasn’t aware of this but, if it is the case, it then my sympathy goes out to her.

Perhaps even more reason for her husband to refrain from writing an article with a lewd, overtly sexual headline.

If Mrs Starmer is Jewish, is that the reason it took so long for Mr Starmer to criticise Israel for the persecution of civilians?

Why have you completely changed the subject?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 11-Jun-24 17:43:57

It’s a valid point.

Casdon Tue 11-Jun-24 17:48:05

It’s just not relevant to the thread even if it were a valid point.

Wyllow3 Tue 11-Jun-24 17:52:49

Indeed Casdon. It's an "oh! a squirrel" to take the eyes off the headline, which was, as the O/P suggested, borderline anti semitic.

Seagull72 Tue 11-Jun-24 18:27:18

Johnson is so awful and only interested in himself. Thank goodness he has gone. How he gets people to follow him I will never know. Has the charisma of a lettuce too.

Well said Wyllow

It’s offensive to suggest Starmer isn’t capable of separating his love of his family from his political decisions of Israel-Palestine.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 11-Jun-24 20:25:36

I would call it a conflict of interests.

I was thinking of what memories of BJ endure. To summarise it, its that he was, primarily, a narcissist and a Bullingdon boy.

Not just Party gate brought him down, but the Chris Pincher affair, and the Owen Paterson row. (He backed his pals despite increasing concern by other MP's)

He called it a witch hunt.

The charisma factor completely passed me by and it wasn't his politics.

Casdon Tue 11-Jun-24 20:31:52

I would call it a conflict of interests.

But again, that’s not what the thread is about. The thread is about Johnson’s use of the words he chose.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 11-Jun-24 20:52:36

Threads meander.

Iam64 Tue 11-Jun-24 20:56:38

The conflict of interest idea could be applied in so many ways

I haven’t come across anyone who supports/ supported Johnson on here, either Germanshepherdsmum Probably just wanting to pick a fight with herself.

Selective memories.

Of course you would

Some threads meander, some are hijacked.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 11-Jun-24 22:43:01

Not by me. Take it up with the poster who changed the subject - but made a valid point.

It’s horrifying that people want starmer as their pm quite frankly .
You were happy enough when boris bit you your vaccine first tho wernt you !
As for angels common as muck Rayner ,I just switch her off .

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 12-Jun-24 06:54:01

Not quite sure what point you are making, Zoe - what are you saying that BJ did for me?
I don't think " common as muck" is the most considered view of a politician, but I do feel some sympathy with prejudices, as I think that we need a change from entitled, unempathic public school boys ( and I use the word " boys" deliberately)

Zoe65 Why is it horrifying that people want Starmer as PM?

Not sure I even understand your comment about Boris, but I have never been happy about anything to do with Boris Johnson. Again an explaanation would help.

As for your comments about Angela Rayner, dergatory and snobbish and just show you up rather than her.

By the way i do not want Starmer as PM. i don't want Sunak, or any other Conservative as PM either.

mae13 Wed 12-Jun-24 07:38:41

Yes, let's not forget his membership of the Bullingdon Club. Privileged, mysoginistic cavemen. Boris is proof-positive that an expensive education doesn't automatically confer breeding.

MayBee70 Wed 12-Jun-24 14:38:26

When people talk about the word that Angela Rayner used have they forgotten what Gillian Keegan said. What a good example the Education Secretary set for young people. Or is it ok for posh people to use expletives?

Wyllow3 Wed 12-Jun-24 14:44:23

Apparently, yes.

There are a lot of people on Gransnet who have professed their wish for him to return quite recently, but I think the majority of them are now on the Farage bus.

I completely agree, and I also recall a couple admiring both Trump and Johnson. Though to be fair, they are very much in the minority

I’m assuming you mean “when Boris got us the vaccine”? Which he didn’t, he and his chancellor signed off the funding and agreement for the vaccines, scientists developed it, a raft of people tested it, our NHS rolled it out with a whole lot of volunteers help.

As for calling Rayner, “common as muck”, all this shows is your lack of breeding! She (Rayner) has made no bones about her background and upbringing. Would you respect her more if she had elocution lessons, like Thatcher, to cover up her roots?

Of course it kin is, Madam!
