Eeek! Mrs Truss

Mrs Truss was in the village knocking on doors yesterday. By the time OH got to the door a meagre leaflet had been pushed through the letter box and he rushed to the window to see her back down the drive...

Now we're wondering what we would have said to her if she'd stayed a bit longer - personally I think we had a lucky escape.

IMO, she’s totally off her rocker!

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 15-Jun-24 09:26:10

I agree. But it was the fault of everyone else for not understanding, doncha know?

Dickens Sat 15-Jun-24 09:50:26

Truss is still resolute about her economic strategy and quite unapologetic!

She made a big mistake with her mini budget which affected millions of people.

But...

...apparently, anyone who blames her for crashing the economy is either stupid or malevolent.

I think all governments for the last 14 years or so have laid their plans in front of the OBR for assessment - but not our Liz.

Unfortunately, the investors she was hoping to impress - weren't impressed.

But everyone else is out of step except our Charlie... so to speak.

Truss was awful but the Tory idiots who voted her in as leader are just as responsible for the mess.

Sarnia Sat 15-Jun-24 09:57:02

I expect you are barricading yourselves in should she call again grin

I doubt she'd call again. Her miniscule leaflet made it clear she doesn't think she needs to persuade or reassure us to vote her in again. I hope she's in for a huge shock but if so, I hope she won't expect us to march on Parliament to demand a recount!

I'm not sure even they could've anticipated her economic plan to wreck grow the economy, to be fair.

... although that fervent gleam of eye, slow swaying of head from side to side, and slightly hectoring / questioning tone of voice, when speaking from the podium, should have thrown up the odd red flag!

Our local Tory leaflet has arrived. The biggest item seems to be our local bin collection problem and that under Labour it will get worse.
The biggest photo (from memory) was of wheelie bins.

No mention of Sunak.

NotSpaghetti Sat 15-Jun-24 11:03:49

BTW , I don't have a bin collection problem.

Dickens Sat 15-Jun-24 11:12:45

BTW , I don't have a bin collection problem.

... ah! but Labour will obviously make sure you have one in the future. grin A problem, I mean, not a wheelie-bin.

Well, at least you will know what you are voting for locally!

Wyllow3 Sat 15-Jun-24 11:19:17

The short notice for the GE has meant locally it's just not possible to get every door knocked on. Or raise money for sending leaflets. Feeling of only just have gone all out for the local elections and limited energy of older supporters.

Its a given in my very specific area the sitting LP MP will be re-elected so priority areas are being focussed on in the city as a whole.

Reports from knocking on doors reveals not so much someone wanting to talk about national issues but talking about problems like waiting lists, care and so on.

NotSpaghetti Sat 15-Jun-24 12:07:51

Dickens 😱
Yes, that may be it!
grin

Just this second, as I was typing to Biglouis we had, according to my husband, a letter (delivered by mail) from our Tory candidate (she of the wheelie bins). I went to have a look re aforementioned bins but by the time I got there it was already in the recycling outside as he was "taking out the papers"!

I write to her now and again but have never had a satisfactory reply.

dalrymple23 Sat 15-Jun-24 19:23:02

Similarly to Spag, we had a Labour letter delivered by Royal Mail. At what cost? They must have masses of dosh.

Liz T is also our local MP. But there is a brilliant sounding chap called Bragg. Sadly he is standing as an Independent, so won't have a hope in Hades. Fear of voting for the unknown?

Oh, hell. This is a mess.

I have suddenly started receiving letters from my MP, informing me of which benefits I'm entitled to. Coincidence?

Anniegranny Sun 16-Jun-24 08:13:57

Being in a strong Labour seat nobody ever canvasses our road. But whilst being polite I would loved to put forward my views on how this country has gone to pot to anyone willing to listen. It would let off some steam instead of me shouting at the telly.

Grandmabatty Sun 16-Jun-24 08:16:58

I haven't had any political leaflets at all(central Scotland). Maybe they're saving them up for a last minute drop.

cornergran Sun 16-Jun-24 08:27:41

No leaflets here although I have had an email ‘newsletter’ from our current MP which as usual contains nothing of interest and very little about the forthcoming election. Suspect he’s more than a little complacent as he’s been the MP for many years and is a decent constituency MP. Such a shame about his political party. He may have a surprise this time.

Witzend Sun 16-Jun-24 08:44:22

The only leaflets I’ve had are from the LDs - always a toss up between LD/Con here, though I’m not sure it’ll be quite so close this time! (Currently LD). IIRC it went to a recount last time.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 16-Jun-24 09:04:42

The only leaflet we’ve had was from the LDs - delivered by the postman, at what cost? I don’t remember the last time anyone canvassing for any party came to our door. Certainly not in the last decade.

Pittcity Sun 16-Jun-24 09:57:41

Only had Lib Dem so far. They couldn't work the doorbell. It's a camera one so we watched them trying and failing to ring.
We've already posted our votes so anyone else is too late.

Beckett Sun 16-Jun-24 10:09:36

I am always polite to political canvassers as I am interested in hearing their views, although I did find in the last local election the Labour candidate wasn't able to answer the questions I had and walked away! Last week it was the Conservative candidate, who actually stayed answered my questions, listened to and discussed my concerns

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Jun-24 10:23:51

Only one delivered leaflet so far and from an Independent who has no chance at all. He used one of those local leaflet delivery services where you get a bunch of advert leaflets. cheaper than the normal post?
