Am watching and feel for everyone in the parade with all this b…..y rain … thought some of the carriages looked like big old prams of yester yearšŸ¤”
Looking forward to seeing the whole family and Kate and children in a carriage

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 15-Jun-24 10:52:10

I thought of old prams too!

crazyH Sat 15-Jun-24 10:53:34

Yes Bea65 - I never miss these occasions. I love all the pomp and pageantry.

Parsley3 Sat 15-Jun-24 10:55:48

I am watching. It's quite a spectacle.

Love these occasions!! So much history and tradition. I’m curious about the style of hat worn by some of the royal ladies. Very large sweeping brims, covering one side of their face. I’m sure Queen Elizabeth insisted on hats which allowed her to be seen by the crowds on both sides of the carriage.

Hope to see most of it. Going out for lunch.

We are watching it on GB News as they have Alistair Stewart commentating. He was diagnosed with Alzheimers a few months ago and is doing very well today. Lovely strong, knowledgeable voice. They also have Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, another beautifully commanding voice. Andrew Pearse and Ellie Costelloe also contributing.

Looks like it’s stopped raining.

My grandmother taught me a very rude song to the tune of one of the ones played at Trooping the Colour. It is about the parade!

Urmstongran Sat 15-Jun-24 11:31:09

It’s Trooping the Colour.
No ā€˜of’.

There’s a clue in the description of those wonderful traditional Silver Cross prams
ā€œCarriage or coach builtā€

Switched on BBC to watch Trooping the Colour only to find She Who Knows Everything About Everything (Not!) has been rolled out to roar at us yet again. Horse Racing , Dog Shows, Wimbledon, now Royal Traditions! Oh please! So I immediately switched over to Sky News, thankful to hear the reassuring tones and infinitely informed knowledge of Alistair Bruce. Phew!
When will the Beeb ever get things right?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 15-Jun-24 11:53:44

Alistair Bruce for me any day. I like his voice and he knows what he’s talking about .

crazyH Sat 15-Jun-24 11:56:24

Who is that ? I don’t recognise the voice …

dogsmother Sat 15-Jun-24 11:59:20

Loving it….

Exactly,

I do enjoy it, as good theatre. I love the horses, such beautiful creatures. It’s nice to see the children - Prince Louis yawning! I think the King looks old and tired, but Catherine looks remarkably good.

LadyGracie Sat 15-Jun-24 12:03:22

Agreed Alistair Bruce is indeed very easy on the ears and knows exactly what he is talking about being a Major-General.

Am I looking in the wrong place? I haven’t seen William yet.

Millie22 Sat 15-Jun-24 12:11:57

GB News this morning ... no idea who the woman was but she described Charles as an 'old man'. I suppose he is but he is the King!

Then she said the guards were 'doing their thing' and 'strutting their stuff'.

It was like kids tv 🤣🤣🤣

Anniebach Sat 15-Jun-24 12:15:08

Would the late queen have been called an ā€˜old woman’

RosiesMaw Sat 15-Jun-24 12:15:11

Princess of Wales looking gorgeous channelling her inner Audrey Hepburn/ā€œBlack Ascotā€look!

Claire Balding’s father was one of the late Queens trainers (horses) she grew up playing with royalty, knows them better than most.

M0nica Sat 15-Jun-24 12:24:01

I looked at all those troops on horses and all those playing musical istruments. For most of them these will be skills learnt in the army and I was wondering whether when they leave the army they are able to use those skills in their civilian life.

It’s ā€œyounger persons speak.ā€ šŸ˜‰

It has been said on TV how brilliant Kate’s letter to the public was and clearly written by herself as a younger person starting off with the term ā€œblown away.ā€

You used ā€œold manā€ out of context anyway. Probably intentionally.

Grandma70s Sat 15-Jun-24 12:29:06

It ā€˜s really bucketing down now. All those wet horses and wet uniforms!

Bea65 Sat 15-Jun-24 12:31:48

Yes on Sky and Alastair Bruce commentary much better IMO than the BBC commentator
