Am watching and feel for everyone in the parade with all this b…..y rain … thought some of the carriages looked like big old prams of yester year🤔
Looking forward to seeing the whole family and Kate and children in a carriage

Why is the King standing out in the rain uncovered?

I loved watching Prince Louis giving way to an enormous yawn and jiggling away to some of the music. Gyles Brandreth is an excellent presenter. He is very knowledgeable on the history of an event such as this. The good old British summer getting in on the act too.

Switched on BBC to watch Trooping the Colour only to find She Who Knows Everything About Everything (Not!) has been rolled out to roar at us yet again. Horse Racing , Dog Shows, Wimbledon, now Royal Traditions! Oh please! So I immediately switched over to Sky News, thankful to hear the reassuring tones and infinitely informed knowledge of Alistair Bruce. Phew!
When will the Beeb ever get things right?

You missed a treat when Gyles Brandreth joined her. He has extensive historical knowledge of this event and was a joy to listen to.

Totally agree, I have always liked Gyles Brandreth, he is so knowledgeable about British History and the Royals.

I think he would definitely be at my ideal dinner party table

I wondered that.
It was "God Save the King" 👑

Coolgran65 Sat 15-Jun-24 13:23:48

Loved it.

I looked at all those troops on horses and all those playing musical istruments. For most of them these will be skills learnt in the army and I was wondering whether when they leave the army they are able to use those skills in their civilian life.

Anniebach Sat 15-Jun-24 14:15:26

I doubt they do same all day every day

GB News this morning ... no idea who the woman was but she described Charles as an 'old man'. I suppose he is but he is the King!

Then she said the guards were 'doing their thing' and 'strutting their stuff'.

It was like kids tv 🤣🤣🤣

And yet it's aimed at older people rather than younger generations. I doubt young people would watch it.

I might be old but I don't either.

Who was the young man on BBC interviewing people outside Buckingham Palace? He certainly hadn't had a short back and sides, had he!

I remarked how excellent Claire Balding’s commentary was, she is on everything because she is so good. That is just my opinion, others will differ but she certainly did her homework.

M0nica Sat 15-Jun-24 14:25:11

*Anniebach, of course they do not spend everyday on horses blowing trumpts because they are all trained soldiers whose primary purpose is to defend this country and with commitments to NATO and the UN.

However, I was just curious what proportion of those who gained these extra skills playing musical instruments and/or riding horses, ever went on to use those skills after they left the army.

I like Claire Balding too. She knows a lot about horses and dogs - she sat next to us at Crufts, watching the agility and clapped and yelled like the rest of us. She was charming.

Jaxjacky Sat 15-Jun-24 14:43:36

Radzi Chinyanganya Callistemon, ex CBBC and Blue Peter presenter, now commentator for sports events.

eazybee Sat 15-Jun-24 14:55:15

Clare Balding was the only presenter during the 2011 Diamond Jubilee river pageant who had researched well, knew what she was talking about and presented interesting information, which is why she is asked to commentate for so many occasions. So much better than Maureen Lipman and Paloma Faith, among others, who were dire.

He seemed very lightweight for such an occasion.
Pleasant enough, but yes, more CBBC! 🙂

Sorry, I meant to quote Jaxjacky's post.

Thank you Jaxjacky.

It was "God Save the King" 👑

I saw a large group with yellow flags and banners as the TV cameras scanned the crowd in front of Buckingham Palace and knew immediately it was the "Not My King" people. That's what they were chanting, in front of the palace, as the planes flew over. Not My King. There's highlights of today's parade this afternoon, it might be edited somehow, but it was very clear on the TV when I knew what it was.

Gingster Sat 15-Jun-24 15:17:37

Wasnt it fabulous! 🇬🇧

Ohhh... thank you NoraBone.
I couldn't hear them clearly at first, and I agree it sounded like a protest, then it seemed to change to what I said I heard. Wishful thinking maybe? ☹️
I hadn't seen any yellow flags though.

GrannyGravy13 just because Ms Balding "knows the family very well" does not enable her to report the in depth historical information about Royal traditions dating back many centuries, including the music history, the names and ranks of the military personnel, what is going to occur next, the details of the preparations leading up to the event etc. etc., as did Alistair Bruce so interestingly and confidently. And.. without shouting manically...quite the opposite.
Yes I am bitter..the BBC nudged out the excellent, knowledgable one-time champion Sue Barker as Wimbledon anchor and replaced her with Balding, who has no professional tennis history. Typical Beeb..barrel scraping.
What is she going to be an 'expert' on next, I ask myself.
