Am watching and feel for everyone in the parade with all this b…..y rain … thought some of the carriages looked like big old prams of yester year🤔
Looking forward to seeing the whole family and Kate and children in a carriage

I loved the young man interviewing he was fun and he had a look that appeals to the younger generation. He had a sparkle in his eye and was clearly enjoying what he was doing.

Clare Balding was perfect, the right amount of gravitas and a very clear speaker who does her homework. The sound was easily taken off for those who only wanted the visual.

The whole programme was uplifting and calming and I watched every minute with enjoyment

Joseann Sun 16-Jun-24 05:50:17

I wasn't able to watch it, but I'm happy that the family were together as a whole, no one missing.

Allsorts Sun 16-Jun-24 06:09:09

No one does better. I loved the interviews before hand, some with some of the very young Irish Guards, how much it meant to them, how proud they felt to be part of it. It was truly uplifting. How nice to see Kate looking so beautiful and as always smiling. The King did well too. I think the rain was dreadful but surely better than the stifling temperature it’s been sometimes in the past.

If young people were watching.

I didn't dislike him but just thought I'd wandered over to CBeebies!

And dependable Anne was there, as ever, at nearly 74, riding a skittish horse with admirable skill, getting soaked on the way back.

Didn’t see much of her on the balcony, I bet she was glad to get out of her wet clothes.

What a woman!

I love to see the drills, and how some of them, and the commands, have changed over the years. They are a work of art, especially the spin wheel performed by the massed bands which is a complete mystery to everyone except the bandsmen themselves (no manuals, nothing written down) and, apparently, a terrifying thing for new bandsmen to be involved in - like being caught up in a vortex! But it works, time after time!

welbeck Sun 16-Jun-24 07:49:48

remember, some of those troops parading are horsewomen, bandswomen.

Greyduster Sun 16-Jun-24 08:04:08

Good point, Welbeck. Nearly half of King’s Troop RHA are women - an unusually high number for the British Army apparently, but very good to see.

Calendargirl Sun 16-Jun-24 08:06:29

I thought they said 60% of the King’s Troop was women, the most diverse?

Or perhaps I got that wrong!

Grandmabatty Sun 16-Jun-24 08:18:54

Princess Anne is the patron of my local hospice and has visited it faithfully every year for years. I have a lot of respect for her.

Greyduster Sun 16-Jun-24 08:20:19

The figures I quoted are last year’s figures so you may be right. Apparently figures fluctuate as personnel leave and are replaced (and of course this process is not gender specific), but it’s still an unprecedented number.

I believe the flypast was organised by a woman too. I forget her name but she was being interviewed just before the Royal Family appeared on the balcony. That's the sort of role model I would like the young girls of today looking up to rather than the Kardashian clan.

I do miss the overloaded balcony with all the cousins, aged rellies and privileged guests. Surely it’s the one occasion when Charles could forget his slimming down rules and let them all have a moment.

Yeah😂 a bit like Christmas where there’s always a crabby Aunt or a drunk Uncle.

Oreo Sun 16-Jun-24 08:59:29

I think Claire Balding is good and professional while not dumbing down too much as many presenters do or being OTT and cringey about the Royals.

Oreo Sun 16-Jun-24 09:00:29

The lack of false eyelashes/talons/ hair extensions is an added bonus.

😂 maybe the structure is getting a bit old and dodgy, and wouldn't take all their weight.l!

Anniebach Sun 16-Jun-24 09:04:18

There was no one missing, exception Princess Marina, the Gloucesters where there.

I admire Princess Anne. She had to slide down the line of succession as younger brothers were born but she took it on the chin. She didn't enter the competition for best dressed Royal and she goes about her business without any fuss. She visits my local hospice regularly too, Grandmabatty, it might be the same one.

Didn’t Princess Marina die in 1968?

No wonder she wasn’t there. 😂

That always worries me, Joseann

Oe interesting snippet from Saturday - it was Queen Camilla's ancestor, Thomas Cubitt, who designed and built the front of Buckingham Palace, including the balcony.

She would have been there in spirit 🙂

Did you mean Princess Alexandra, Anniebach?

Anniebach Sun 16-Jun-24 09:32:20

Sorry yes Princess Alexandra, there are no more working royals, the thought of Andrew’s family ? no thanks

merlotgran Sun 16-Jun-24 09:39:15

I think it’s the one occasion where non working royals should be invited to squeeze in. The late Queen always made sure there were plenty of cousins, young and old. Just like Christmas, as Oreo said.

I miss seeing Princess Anne’s delightful grandchildren.
