Am watching and feel for everyone in the parade with all this b
..y rain
thought some of the carriages looked like big old prams of yester yearđŸ€”
Looking forward to seeing the whole family and Kate and children in a carriage

I thoroughly enjoyed it all especially the bands . I thought the king looked very emotional almost in tears. It’s endearing to see him so proud of all the soldiers parading before him. Long live the monarchy! I think no one took the king and queens ages into account or his illness. There should have been some form of shelter at the end in case the rain came on. I would have been cross if these were my relatives.

Parsley3 I'm sure it is the same hospice. â˜ș I thought King Charles had planned to slim down the Royal Family? The smaller amount of people on the balcony, I assumed, was part of that. I can't say that I missed the rest. It's not a wedding nor a christening where you would expect more family members. It was a state occasion and therefore, I think, he was making a point

It was the one state occasion where the Queen would welcome working and non working royals and their families. The birthday parade is a celebration! There would often be guests who had made a contribution to life that the Queen admired and remember little Leonora Knatchbull who was a much loved member of the Mountbatten family and died of kidney cancer at the age of only five?

I used to love trying to identify everyone and often having to resort to the pictorial who’s who guide.

The king has the rest of the year to slim everything down.

The coaches are built like coach built prams. The engineering principles are exactly the same.

Jaberwok crowds cheer those on the balcony, why cheer the
York family, nothing to do with their father , Christmas Day we had Fergie racing around trying to gather flowers

We watched the highlights which went on for an hour and a half or there abouts.. Long enough for me to keep worrying about how long the King had his arm up saluting. I don’t know how he did it. After all he is no spring chicken and my shoulder began to ache for him. Everyone did so well and it was great to see the Princess of Wales with the children, Louis enjoying even though he was seen yawning a little. Then their attempts at clearing the misted up windows in the carriage as they returned to the palace in the rain.

I too draw the line at Andrew, but not his daughters. None of us can help our parents and they always seem lovely girls, live quietly, getting on so h their lives without causing any particular fuss. I can't see that seeing them on the balcony would cause any fuss?

The
They do look like old coach-built prams!
The leather strap suspension is the same

One important difference is that horse drawn carriages have a 'fifth wheel' that enables the forecarriage to turn independently of the rear wheels. This so-called fifth wheel is horizontally placed on a sort of peg through the middle of it . The driver sits above the fifth and stays put while the fifth wheel moves the front of the chassis independently.

Articulated lorries have the same principle so they bend when turning. Prams are so light in weight they don't need the extra engineering and you see pram pushers sort of lifting one end of the pram when it has to be turned abruptly so it swivels on its back wheels.

I think it’s the one occasion where non working royals should be invited to squeeze in. The late Queen always made sure there were plenty of cousins, young and old. Just like Christmas, as Oreo said.

I miss seeing Princess Anne’s delightful grandchildren.

Anniebach Sun 16-Jun-24 09:32:20

Sorry yes Princess Alexandra, there are no more working royals, the thought of Andrew’s family ? no thanks

There was no one missing, exception Princess Marina, the Gloucesters where there.

Didn’t Princess Marina die in 1968?

No wonder she wasn’t there. 😂

She would have been there in spirit 🙂

Did you mean Princess Alexandra, Anniebach?

I do miss the overloaded balcony with all the cousins, aged rellies and privileged guests. Surely it’s the one occasion when Charles could forget his slimming down rules and let them all have a moment.

Yeah😂 a bit like Christmas where there’s always a crabby Aunt or a drunk Uncle.

😂 maybe the structure is getting a bit old and dodgy, and wouldn't take all their weight.l!

That always worries me, Joseann

Oe interesting snippet from Saturday - it was Queen Camilla's ancestor, Thomas Cubitt, who designed and built the front of Buckingham Palace, including the balcony.

I admire Princess Anne. She had to slide down the line of succession as younger brothers were born but she took it on the chin. She didn't enter the competition for best dressed Royal and she goes about her business without any fuss. She visits my local hospice regularly too, Grandmabatty, it might be the same one.

The lack of false eyelashes/talons/ hair extensions is an added bonus.

.. and trout pout!

I think Claire Balding is good and professional while not dumbing down too much as many presenters do or being OTT and cringey about the Royals.

The figures I quoted are last year’s figures so you may be right. Apparently figures fluctuate as personnel leave and are replaced (and of course this process is not gender specific), but it’s still an unprecedented number.

I believe the flypast was organised by a woman too. I forget her name but she was being interviewed just before the Royal Family appeared on the balcony. That's the sort of role model I would like the young girls of today looking up to rather than the Kardashian clan.

Princess Anne is the patron of my local hospice and has visited it faithfully every year for years. I have a lot of respect for her.

Calendargirl Sun 16-Jun-24 08:06:29

I thought they said 60% of the King’s Troop was women, the most diverse?

Or perhaps I got that wrong!
