Am watching and feel for everyone in the parade with all this b…..y rain … thought some of the carriages looked like big old prams of yester year🤔
Looking forward to seeing the whole family and Kate and children in a carriage

Good point, Welbeck. Nearly half of King’s Troop RHA are women - an unusually high number for the British Army apparently, but very good to see.

welbeck Sun 16-Jun-24 07:49:48

remember, some of those troops parading are horsewomen, bandswomen.

Greyduster Sun 16-Jun-24 07:16:32

I love to see the drills, and how some of them, and the commands, have changed over the years. They are a work of art, especially the spin wheel performed by the massed bands which is a complete mystery to everyone except the bandsmen themselves (no manuals, nothing written down) and, apparently, a terrifying thing for new bandsmen to be involved in - like being caught up in a vortex! But it works, time after time!

And dependable Anne was there, as ever, at nearly 74, riding a skittish horse with admirable skill, getting soaked on the way back.

Didn’t see much of her on the balcony, I bet she was glad to get out of her wet clothes.

What a woman!

I loved the young man interviewing he was fun and he had a look that appeals to the younger generation. He had a sparkle in his eye and was clearly enjoying what he was doing.

If young people were watching.

I didn't dislike him but just thought I'd wandered over to CBeebies!

Allsorts Sun 16-Jun-24 06:09:09

No one does better. I loved the interviews before hand, some with some of the very young Irish Guards, how much it meant to them, how proud they felt to be part of it. It was truly uplifting. How nice to see Kate looking so beautiful and as always smiling. The King did well too. I think the rain was dreadful but surely better than the stifling temperature it’s been sometimes in the past.

Joseann Sun 16-Jun-24 05:50:17

I wasn't able to watch it, but I'm happy that the family were together as a whole, no one missing.

karmalady Sun 16-Jun-24 05:40:51

Clare Balding was perfect, the right amount of gravitas and a very clear speaker who does her homework. The sound was easily taken off for those who only wanted the visual.

The whole programme was uplifting and calming and I watched every minute with enjoyment

I don't mind Clare Balding but the problem is, if the BBC have someone on contract, they seem to roll them out as commentators for every conceivable occasion until we are fed up with hearing them.

As for that young man interviewing people outside the Palace! Is he the best person they could find? Really? Where were any Royal reporters?

I thought she no longer had a contract with the BBC ( maybe she has a new contract). I remember her losing the contract at the same time as she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and it was very stressful for her. So she branched out into commentating for other things. DH told me she started commentating on rugby and everyone was impressed with her knowledge. I love her autobiography, My Family and other Animals.

I watched hours of the Trooping and loved every minute. I wish I knew more about the traditions. There has to be a wealth of information about the uniforms, the head pieces, the medals and the colors. Some of the rituals must go back several centuries. Is there someone who examines everyone in each unit to check that all little details are 'correct'?

The horses! Where do they keep them all? Does each rider train their own horse? Pay for their own finery? Be responsible for their horse? They all seem to be so in tune with their horse's temperament. Watching fine horsemen on fine horses is a great pleasure for me. I wish someone would make a documentary of the history and traditions of this part of the UK story.

I thought Katherine looked beautiful and well (even slimmer than usual), King Charles did beautifully considering his condition. Thank you for allowing so much space for this southern US fan!

I enjoyed the whole thing and thought the King did well for someone who's been having chemo recently. They all did brilliantly in spite of the weather.
And so did Clare Balding imo.
She knows her stuff, speaks clearly, I don't understand the criticism.
Each to his own though.
PS.. So great to see the Princess of Wales looking lovely as usual.

Deedaa Sat 15-Jun-24 21:15:55

I've always liked Clare Balding. I thought she was ideal for today, when the whole event revolves round the horses (or is that just me?) I should imagine she was a bit taken aback herself to be landed with Wimbledon.

There’s a clue in the description of those wonderful traditional Silver Cross prams
“Carriage or coach built”

My oldest grandsons, the pram is a Millson

Oh wow! What an absolutely beautiful pram.

Am I looking in the wrong place? I haven’t seen William yet.

He was riding behind the King's carriage. Difficult to recognise him under that enormous bearskin hat!

Anniebach Sat 15-Jun-24 20:24:53

Yes, Annabel Croft not Claire Balding

merlotgran Sat 15-Jun-24 20:24:17

I do miss the overloaded balcony with all the cousins, aged rellies and privileged guests. Surely it’s the one occasion when Charles could forget his slimming down rules and let them all have a moment.

Rekarie Sat 15-Jun-24 20:11:26

I have a rather inexplicable dislike of Holly Willoughby.

CB is OK but I'm disappointed that she fronted Wimbledon. Sue Barker was a hard act to follow. But why the BBC chose Claire over Annabel Croft beats me.

Galaxy Sat 15-Jun-24 19:50:28

It's very personal isnt it, the feeling towards certain presenters. I a not jeen on CB but I couldnt really express why.

flappergirl Sat 15-Jun-24 19:43:55

Claire Balding gets on my nerves.

Rekarie Sat 15-Jun-24 19:10:58

Lovely , Calipso!

We had a Balmoral for our children. My eldest son has it now for his two daughters.

Such a joy to push. I used to walk for hours and hours

Polititians come and go, long may remain tradition in Britain

Dinahmo Sat 15-Jun-24 18:52:14

I saw a bit. it brought a few tears to my eyes. I'm suffering from bronchitis - that's my excuse. The Irish Guards' mascot was the best thing for me. Beautiful dog.

Whilst watching the thought crossed my mind that at least we Brits can still get something right.

merlotgran Sat 15-Jun-24 18:48:41

I’m just watching the highlights as I’ve been out all day. It’s a ceremony I hate to miss.

I love Kate’s outfit and the children are gorgeous as ever.

And I like Clare Balding. 😂
