I doubt it now, but who can predict the future? Time will tell. I’m not, and never will be, a party member, but without doubt his policies appeal to some members. Starmer won’t stop the boats and without doubt Farage appeals to those who want to see them stopped. I am one of them, though I won’t be voting for Reform.
I think it depends on the MPs the tories get at the GE. If they are centre right, 'old fashioned' tories, like the ones Johnson tried to eradicate I can't see them wanting Farage as a leader. If they incline further right he might be in with a chance.
Then, is there really a significant mass of the electorate who would want him? After all, even Johnson's rightward leaning government didn't appeal to the majority of the electorate.
After today’s record number of people arriving in boats, and Starmer’s lack of a credible plan to stop the boats, who knows? Things can only get worse.
Farage doesn’t have a credible plan to stop the boats, I think he’s planning to stand in the middle of the channel and wave his arms about a bit?
I see Farage as a one man band, he’s not a party animal. Whatever the Tory voters may think, he would have to be chosen as the leader from within the party machinery, and even if those who are elected this time are further right, I think there will be in-fighting for the leadership. I think the winner will be Priti Patel.
Farage’s rhetoric is exactly the same as Trump.

It’s not done too well under the Tories, to be fair. Yesterday’s numbers were a record for this year.🤷♀️

Didn’t I just say it was a record number? What will Starmer do to stop the boats? Nothing,
As Casdon says, Farage won't answer that question, he just says he'll do it.
At least Sunak doesn't promise stopping boats in the channel.
I've googled so much on this point, and this answer in the Express is typical. Calls it a "bold plan"
Farage says he'll stop the boats within 4 months but not how.
The policy is absolutely meaningless without a plan.

He should really be pressed on it in interviews.
The choice is between Sunak and Starmer. Starmer will do nothing to stop the scrounging illegal migrants. He’s a human rights lawyer. Speaks for itself. Giving Sunak the opportunity to send them to Rwanda is our best hope of stopping them or getting rid of them.
Starmer is not interested in becoming the leader of the Tory party. How a thread about Farage as a potential leader of the Tories brings us round yet again to Starmer and the boats beats me. Farage’s view about the boats is relevant to the thread, Starmer’s view is categorically not.
I won't be voting Reform but have to say that Farage has some good points in my view - he's very patriotic, he's supportive of our military and he is very firm about stopping the boats.
There are, needless to say, a number of things I don't like about him.
Is there wisdom in "Keep your friends close but your enemies even closer"?
Sparklefizz, why do you think Farage is patriotic.
In my view he is a chancer and his allegiance will go to
whatever offers the best deal for him .
This Tory supporter will not.
Farage does make sensible points and highlights pressing issues which so many politicians and voters alike choose to ignore but ultimately he always turns on his supporters, witness Richard Tice, his most recent victim.
Nigel Farage is Nigel Farage's greatest priority.
Nigel Farage is a maverick and as we've seen with Boris Johnson mavericks make p***poor leaders of a political party.
As he is unlikely to be elected MP for Clayton (or anywhere) I assume not.
Even if Larry the cat is the last former occupant of No 10 left.
I dont know if a party such as reform can survive, particularly centred on one person. I just dont think our system is set up to enable new parties. The Tories would be in a much better electoral position if they had held on to Johnson, they would still be about to lose but not by the numbers the polls are predicting now.

The question is How ?
Is he going to sit on the beach like King Canute and turn the waves and the boats back?
With about as much success.
The man is a dangerous fantasist.
PS I believe Hitler was patriotic, supported the German military and in addition, was very fond of his dog.
Says nothing.

GSM you have absolutely no idea whether the LP will “Stop the Boats”, none of know!
What if Farage did “stop the boats” what then? We would be living in the land of Ambrosia? Would everything g then be Paradise here???
“None of us know”

How? How would they be able to do with Johnson? Do you mean with the Boris obsessed public? I mean really, sensible, intelligent Tories (& there are many of them) would not want Boris back!
I’m wondering if Farage would use the navy to stop the boats. That seems the obvious thing. I wouldn’t discount him, I think he will pick up a lot of disaffected Tories, though he won’t actually win many seats because of the way things are structured there. Quite bizarre really.

Absolutely Casdon!
Sadly, some posters appear to have a one track mind, allowing their dislike of Keir Starmer to enter every discussion🤷♀️
RosiesMaw PS I believe Hitler was patriotic, supported the German military and in addition, was very fond of his dog
Don't be ridiculous. The same could be said for Princess Anne, removing the word "German".
I have to confess to watching Nige on Utube when there’s nothing on our telly, fascinating. Reminds me of 1930s Germany. A lot. He is a very good speaker. Very persuasive.
