Better weather = many more immigrants 822 yesterday

Yesterday was the best weather for ages. 822 immigrants arrived on rubber dinghies yesterday. Who knows how many today and in the next few weeks if the good weather continues.

French Police seem to do nothing other than watch and take photos. 😱

And if their claims were rejected they would just come here by nefarious means and disappear into the black economy.

Coronation Sat 22-Jun-24 12:02:04

Even if they're found to be here illegally, I think they appeal which takes years. Then claim they have a right to family life so they are allowed to stay.

They have absolutely nothing to lose by trying their luck here. We don't have Id cards so easy to disappear.

Also, the same with students.

I don't blame them for trying, but it's unsustainable to have this level of immigration.

Pantglas2 Sat 22-Jun-24 12:14:07

The answer I’m looking for actually isn’t whether you’d leave your family to their own fate on pain of your own execution Growstuff.

More whether it would have been right for young men in the UK to have done similar before WW1/2?

I have skin in the game on this one as my brother served in the RAF, my husband in the army during The Troubles and further generations back family members killed in those two conflicts.

It actually chills me to think that they’d be thought less brave than those who cut and ran.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 12:19:24

Please can someone who supports Reform on immigration tell us exactly how Farage intends to "turn back the boats".

Populist, but actually no plan whatsoever.

Here is their policy

"Leave the European Convention on Human Rights: Zero Illegal Immigrants to be Resettled in the UK; Offshore Processing for Illegal Arrivals; New Department of Immigration; Pick up Migrants out of Boats and Take Back to France."

(oh, and no reference to where "offshore" is - a said is "processed rapidly offshore in British Overseas Territories")

Her's the list:
Anguilla; Bermuda; British Antarctic Territory (BAT); British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT); British Virgin Islands; Cayman Islands; Falkland Islands; Gibraltar; Montserrat; Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands; Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha; South Georgia .....

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 13:53:40

I neither know nor care about that. I’m not a member of Reform and I don’t intend to vote for them, and they aren’t going to form a government, so why care?

The dreadful Muslim grooming gangs all over the country demonstrates what these men think of women but they single out white British teenagers.
While they were drugging, raping, abusing and imprisoning them they told them they were white trash.

The problem, of course, is that those of us who like to think of ourselves as 'enlightened' are nervous about entering into these kinds of discussions if we want to delve deeper into cultural issues for fear of being deemed bigots or racists if we don't stick to the accepted narrative.

For example (sticking head above parapet) - I don't accept the premise that Muslim men are all would-be suppressors of women - on the other hand, neither do I believe they're all just decent men who simply want to live a peaceful life following the tenets of their religion. It's just not that cut and dried. But - you can't say that. The polarisation is that either they're here to take over and convert us all to Islam eventually, or they're all our doctors and nurses, business-men, just like everyone else. And I don't believe either is true.

What I do believe is that education and economic status has a defining effect on how Muslim men think, feel and behave - as it does for other cultures. Men from rural and more isolated parts of Pakistan, India, Indonesia, etc, are more likely to be conservative in their outlook - whether they be Muslim or not, compared to those in the cities and capitols. And the same holds true to some extent in the UK. My relatives living in hamlets and small enclaves in Lincolnshire hold very different views to me - on just about everything. They've stayed put, and I've moved around - we are poles apart.

So those grooming gangs as they are called, did exist - and yes, we know that white grooming gangs exist too, but you can't get away from the fact that those gangs we are talking about often come from a culture where women are second class citizens, and therefore in a country with liberal values, white women - girls in this instance - will be regarded as fair-game.

As a teenager, I had a Turkish boyfriend. He was a staunch admirer of Kemal AtatĂŒrk who secularised and westernised the country. He (boyfriend) was progressive and liberal-minded - but his parents, and aunts and uncles were a completely different matter, and I know (though couldn't formulate the words or ideas at the time) that they regarded me, with my 'western ways' in a similar light to that of the grooming gangs towards white women (girls).

Anyway, I ramble. I'm neither a racist nor a bigot (though quite likely to be accused of both) but neither am I naive - and I know that living among immigrants in Hampstead Heath (which I did for a while) is a totally different experience to that of living in, say, Tower Hamlets or Hackney.

Let’s explore the myths on grooming gangs.

Based on Home Office Report 2020

“This week marks a watershed moment in a decade of discussion of “grooming gangs”: a much-anticipated Home Office report has concluded that there is no credible evidence that any one ethnic group is over-represented in cases of child sexual exploitation.

For many in Britain today the term “grooming gang” immediately suggests Pakistani-heritage Muslim men abusing white girls,

but the Home Office researchers now tell us that “research has found that group-based offenders are most commonly White

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 14:51:09

Well there would be wouldn’t there! There are more white people living in the UK than any other ethnicity.
Plus a lot of the white men are in groups who have many photos of children and young people and they share them. It’s despicable behaviour, but not at the level of giving underage girls alcohol and then gang raping them over several years.
I get fed up of the apologists who would prefer to whitewash what Asian men (primarily) did to thousands of girls in cities all over the country. It’s all just the same as the police and social services who wouldn’t listen to those girls in Rotherham and elsewhere. Desperately trying to pretend that this isn’t and wasn’t a big problem.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 14:59:56

The article clarifies

"The two-year study by the Home Office makes very clear that there are no grounds for asserting that Muslim or Pakistani-heritage men are disproportionately engaged in such crimes".

Yes I agree about the cover-ups and apologists and am not one.

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 15:13:26

But the HO don’t give any percentages? That would be accurate if it was published, but it never is. Only more white men. As I said, there are more white men in the country, so there will be more white offenders, in all crimes actually. Unless they are willing to publish percentages, I shall be unwilling to believe them.

Nicenanny3 Sat 22-Jun-24 16:11:34

Nearly 130,000 illegals arrived since 2018, 41,000 since the beginning of the year and counting, paying thousands of Euros to the smuggling gangs, strange they mostly have no passports but seem to have plenty of money. They all need beds and somewhere to live, feeding, some need GP appointments,
hospital appointments, Dentists all paid for by you the tax payer. Mostly young men supposedly fleeing war and torture but hey ho it's OK to leave their women and children and old people as long as they are OK. Imagine if in WW1 and WW2 all our able men said screw you we're off we're not fighting Hitler we are only interested in saving ourselves. Food for thought.

Chestnut Sat 22-Jun-24 16:22:52

The latest information on boat crossings is just shocking. They need to ferry them back to France because this can't go on. Where are they all going once they're here?

It's only going to get worse, think twice before voting Labour you might think it's bad now but it's peanuts to the numbers that will be crossing when soft Labour get in. Remember Vyette Cooper with her sign illegals welcome I wonder how many she and Ed Balls housed none probably all talk and virtue signalling not the least but worried about their constituents who are frightened for their young teen girls and grand daughters having to walk the streets at nights pass young fit illegals eyeing them up.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 17:30:17

I am certainly concerned about things getting even worse under Labour. And how much will the ‘hundreds’ of additional border force officials, who won’t make any difference to who is and is not granted asylum, cost? Starmer thinks they can smash the people smuggling gangs. Unfortunately they are many and clever.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:18:17

And how will we "ferry them back"?

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:23:06

"Vyette Cooper with her sign"

Oh the obfuscation we get on here. Then gets repeated.

Here is the picture.

She was referring to genuine refugees when the numbers were 20.000, 8 years ago.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:28:49

Also people quoting the L Party position is inaccurate. Dont take it from me -read the Telegraph

"Thousands of migrants face deportation in Labour’s manifesto pledge
Plans include extra Home Office staffing at home and abroad to alleviate ‘diplomatic blockers’ preventing removals"

"Sir Keir Starmer will promise to set up a new returns and enforcement unit comprising 1,000 extra Home Office staff to deport thousands more illegal migrants and aim to restore removals to levels last seen under the Blair government."

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/09/labour-pledge-thousands-deportation-manifesto-migrants/

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 18:34:40

To where will they deported?

Casdon Sat 22-Jun-24 18:48:33

This is the Telegraph.

Iam64 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:50:03

maddyone I’ve consulted our friend Google on grooming gangs. There is research but it’s very early and the conclusions uncertain. I worked with girls involved in child sexual exploitation, including gangs of predominantly Pakistani Muslim heritage. Dreadful experiences for vulnerable children. Nazir Afzal spent most of his career in the north west. He was chief prosecutor for the CPS until 2016. He was a key figure in the successful, prosecution of the Asian grooming gangs.
The key issue for me isn’t the ethnicity of the child sexual exploiters, it’s their gender. I’m not denying cultural issues but look at the abuse of women and children. Why do so many men behave in this way.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:57:35

Manifesto says to safe countries ie they are not refugees. Fast processing essential.
In brief in here (Civil Service World magazine)

www.civilserviceworld.com/professions/article/labour-confirms-hmrc-funding-and-bordersecurity-command-in-manifesto-with-few-surprises#:~:text=The%201%2C000%2Dstrong%20body%20will,%2C%20in%20some%20cases%2C%20resettlement.

I hope this breaks the myth that Labour will not deport, but not expect quick solutions, as it depends on recruiting the processing workers.

for too long its been 'Rwanda will solve all" and nothing else done.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Jun-24 18:58:36

The failed Rwanda scheme has already cost us has already cost hundreds of millions of pounds.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 19:27:28

It hasn’t failed. Many immigrants have moved to Ireland because of it. But of course Labour will scrap it despite many other countries adopting similar policies.

Primrose53 Sat 22-Jun-24 19:35:02

ex Police Detective Maggie Oliver who resigned over the grooming gang scandal now has the MO Foundation to support young girls who were abused and raped. She also tries to educate people about why these men do this, why it is more prevalent in Asian communities etc.

She has always said that quite ridiculously, figures were NEVER kept by the police of the ethnicity of these vile men so any figures are skewed.

Casdon Sat 22-Jun-24 19:36:33

It has failed. £370m for one voluntary deportee is failure by anybody’s reckoning, saying that some people who might have come to the UK but decided to go to Ireland when they heard about it is like saying we lost 370-0 but we got a good corner in the second half.
