Oreo , what on earth are "dubious cultures ". You come out with these claims but in reality know nothing about these people. You saw others are naive, but what is your claims coming from. £
Yes it is a problem which needs tackling internationally and it would help if we had a much more efficient way of processing asylum requests.
Primrose don't forget the French offered to set up a centre in France where claimants could be processed which was turned down by the government, and could you please try to show a bit more empathy for these refugees.

How can so many, mainly single young men, possibly become integrated into the UK, self-supporting and contributing members of our society, which is alien to them? Wait and see how many more arrive today, tomorrow, every day whilst the weather is calm. It’s an impossible situation which will not be solved by Starmer’s plan to have a beefed up border force.

They are not in need of compassion. They are paying thousands to come here from a safe country .

Yes of course for everyone in the world it’s an accident of birth but that’s hardly an argument for allowing a small country to take in thousands every single week.What are we storing up for ourselves in the near future? Look at some of the cultures and countries the illegal migrants are from!
I will be watching with interest at what Starmer proposes to do to stop it or at least slow it down.

I’ve stated countless times I support controlled immigration.

I’ve also said we need to process applications for asylum far more quickly.

I don’t support the Rwanda scheme, it’s nonsense and very very expensive. I don’t agree that we should have given shedload of cash to the French.

I do support safe, legal routes for refugees, with a quick turnaround of claims processed. The cash wasted could have employed hundreds of Home Office temps!

So, no, I don’t “flip flop”.

I just get very angry about the way SOME people refer to asylum seekers. I have NEVER once said “let them all in and be damned”

Actually, empathy or no empathy , nothing helps this situation that our useless government are helplessly allowing to go on.
If only I had faith in the next government to stop it or slow it down, but tbh I don’t.

^GSM* Actually you don’t know his plan if a “beefed up border control” won’t work, none of us do, not even the border control itself. Every plan this govt has tried has so far spectacularly failed.

I’ve already posted stats stating many men came from Afganistan, men who are probably at risk (but obviously not all) as they may have worked with the British and American soldiers.

Even without papers it’s often easy to identify the country of origin, language is a huge give away.

The fact is, yes, entering the country by illegal means needs to stop, small boats and hidden in lorries is dangerous, lining trafikkers pockets and allows people to vanish. None of which I support.

As you also well know, under International Law, Adylum seekers are at liberty to choose in which country they wish to claim asylum.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have the answers. Does anyone?

I wholeheartedly support controlled immigration.

I do not support making traffickers multi millionaires on the back of people’s misery.

We are repeatedly told by media (all forms) that those arriving on these boats are told to destroy all their paperwork, why?

Anyone without a dodgy past has no need to destroy their paperwork surely?

There is a backlash against the prevalence of these (mostly young men) people growing across Europe. Sweden & Germany have had and in some areas of Sweden still have problems.

One of my husband’s friends used to house and mentor young male refugees, yes some of their stories were exceptionally harrowing.

Some went on to University after completing access courses, some stole from him, and one went into crime.

Of course they are.
It’s the posts that lambast others as having no compassion, that all are here through an accident of birth so why not let the poor things in, share all we have, fling our arms open to the world yada yada that are virtue signalling.

It’s an intolerable situation.
Several hundred arriving every day, all having to be accommodated, fed, medically treated if necessary, all at our expense.

There is hope though now there has been a move to the Right in Europe, fuelled it is said by increasing frustration with the illegal migrant situation affecting so many countries.
I have always said that the only way to tackle this is for every European country to work together to prevent them gaining a foothold in Europe in the first place.

Unfortunately though it looks as if we are about to have a Left wing government with no intention whatsoever of cutting migration.

Thanks Oreo you have put it so much more eloquently than I have. It isn’t a question of lack of compassion at all. No one has said anything against migrants and refugees who arrive by the normal channels. It is the queue jumpers and the traffickers that should be stopped.

I am in agreement and they need to stop these boats but at the end of the day you cannot blame the immigrants, blame the government for handing out benefits, free housing, food etc. The streets of London are not paved with gold but as long as these people are being handed out everything on a plate they will never stop coming. I bet if the government says, no more benefits, no more housing there would be no more boats.

Refugees/Asylum Seekers don’t get “benefits”. They have No Recourse to Public Funds and No Right to Work (for the umpteenth time!) The survive on a small allowance paid out of the foreign aid budget! Horrible “click bait posting” well done Primrose! Job done eh!

I agree with many comments on here. There are so many people who are already here alongside those who were born here many moons ago yet don't have enough money to buy food and clothes for their families.
Taking in more people is kind but is it really the right thing to do? Shouldn't we look after those who, for whatever reason, have lived here in the UK for donkeys years and are in dire straits?
Should we just take in people who can contribute to our country in some way?
It's a real dilemma. We want to be kind and caring but I feel there has to be a limit. [I'll now duck my head down]

The population has increased by six million since the Conservatives came into power. That is a terrifying statistic, and if it carries on at that rate we will be finished.

Farage has said he wants zero net migration to enable us to catch up. Tories want to send them to Rwanda and the others just want to help them work and assimilate.

I’m completely baffled as to why we’re paying the French authorities a small fortune to do sweet nothing!
And I never read of immigrants being returned to France.
I have zero problem with those coming through the proper channels but it’s farcical that there are hundreds arriving every day illegally.

I’ve said it before and am willing to say it again, although I’ll doubtless be told how heartless I am. We have:
Insufficient housing
Insufficient GPs
Insufficient dentists
Insufficient access to medical care
Insufficient roads (overcrowd roads)
Insufficient water as soon as the sun shines for three weeks
A black hole, only set to get larger we are told, in our finances

Where are we supposed to put them? Along with the three quarters of a million people arriving legally, some of whom are desperately needed, but others who are not. We don’t need the dependents of students for example.

Our services cannot cope with 800 people arriving each day, almost all young men, and so in desperation we put them into hotels. One of the huge hotels on the seafront where I live is full of asylum seekers. It’s been closed for normal trading for several years now. When we go for a walk along the seafront we see them, sitting around on the many benches, usually on their mobile phones. To be honest, they must be bored rigid. Labour say they will process them quicker and that will solve the problem. But it won’t because we’ll still have a shortage of all the facilities listed above.

As to the money being wasted as a result of the abysmal inefficiency of the Home Office, a lot of it is coming out of the Overseas Aid budget, which should be being used for helping other countries become more self sufficient and from which it would be less likely that people would flee.

I support controlled immigration too. One and a half million people in two years is not controlled though, and is far too high.
Thousands coming across in boats is not controlled either.
