Tories - rotten to the end

more names are coming out relating to the insider trading betting scandal.

I guess they watched the Tory front bench making squillions for their cronies out of PPE, and decided to grab a tiny bit for themselves.

And now the Tory Party Chief Data Officer is being investigated for dozens of bets all under £100. Maybe he thought no one would notice.

In a survey carried out earlier this month the voting intentions of the over 65s were:

Reform 25%
Tories 33%
Labour 23%

With a bit of luck the first two will more or less cancel each other out.

We're emigrants and our proxies and postal votes have been organised. Labour of course.

I have a daughter who became a citizen of her adopted Scandinavian country this year. She has decided not to vote in the British election as she feels that it's not appropriate for people to make decisions which affect others but not themselves.
As an aside, I love your idea of a parliamentary Ofsted, Mollygo - oh please, please, can I apply for the inspectorate?
I promise to be robust in my judgements.

Allsorts

I think such things minor compared to someone that fought two elections supporting Corbyn who supports Hamas. Farage now a Putin supporter. Try living there, the Russians would give anything to have a democracy.

Oh for heaven's sake, is there no end to your apologies for these people? Frankly, your post is rather silly.

Just a quick reminder that there is the Nolan Principles which govern parliamentary behaviour.....not that you would know grin

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 23-Jun-24 20:12:07

Gosh HPQ , I'd quite forgotten about the Nolan Principles. Other people seen to have forgotten about them, too.

I think that’s one of Johnson’s legacies sad

Be proud of your daughter. She has principles that many do not possess.

My DC do not vote in UK elections either although I urged them to vote in the referendum (they didn't) as one spent many years working in EU countries and may return to UK anyway.

Unnecessarily rude comments, HousePlantQueen.

It's Downing St that needs to be "Ofsted".

HPQ was expressing her opinion...

My daughter lives currently in New Zealand, but has far too much on her mind at present to be much bothered about voting in the British election. She’s a doctor and has four jobs to juggle. Being a GP is the primary job, but she also works in ED doing evening shifts when she’s not got the children, she works remotely as a menopause specialist, and she’s recently undertaken training, and has now started working for the police doing the support, examinations, and forensic medicals for abused women.

What a silly thing to say "IQ test" Many rotters have a high IQ.

Applegran Mon 24-Jun-24 11:51:56

I agree that it is shocking both morally and in terms of judgement that these Tories have placed these bets. I just want to speak up for civil servants - they so easily get an unjustified bad press. Senior civil servants have to take exams which test their mental abilities before joining the service and the great majority do the best they possibly can, within the parameters the politicians allow. We need them.

cc Mon 24-Jun-24 11:52:01

To me this seems like typical "entitled" MP behaviour.common to some people in all parties, although obviously the betting only relates to tories who had insider knowlege.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 24-Jun-24 11:56:29

As an aside

Peter Kay

Let’s make July 4th Independence Day
and July 5th Thanksgiving. This time leave the Turkeys to vote for this lot and their various alt right/NatC and Reform mutations.”

But we MUST vote

GrandmaMia1 Mon 24-Jun-24 11:57:00

It’s not their stupidity. It’s because they think us ‘plebs’ are stupid! The arrogance of them is awful

knspol Mon 24-Jun-24 11:58:05

Very little evidence of integrity left in politics nowadays. I believe absolutely in voting but very difficult to select a party to vote for.

red1 Mon 24-Jun-24 11:58:52

power corrupts, absolute power....... same old, when a party has been in power too long, but this time? i hope it is the end of the tories, for good and no, not farage to fill the vacuum.

loripol Mon 24-Jun-24 12:00:23

Lol!
Yes indeed - force them back over here to experience what they voted for.
P.M. Farage? Ugh!!!!

Altyann Mon 24-Jun-24 12:16:12

And you wonder why. Who'd be an MP the way we treat them, most can earn more else where. Get used to substardard.

Grantanow Mon 24-Jun-24 12:19:42

Another Tory sleaze bomb.

mamagill Mon 24-Jun-24 13:04:05

They’ve cocked up everything in the name of greed

Love59 Mon 24-Jun-24 13:19:02

Lady Gracie…civil servants are apolitical and undergo rigorous interviews and scrutiny before being appointed.
It’s no wonder we can’t get any decent people wanting to become Members of Parliament

Quizzer Mon 24-Jun-24 13:29:03

What did you expect??
