Sadiq Khan has banned black cabs in London from flying the England flag during the Euros’s

He sites causing a distraction

Funny that he doesn’t have a problem with all the cars flying Palestinian flags in support of Gaza?

Seems fair enough, black cabs are part of the public transport system. They aren’t allowed to fly flags or banners or anything that could hamper the safety of passengers and pedestrians. Would we want bus drivers flying whatever banner they want from their bus? Same rules apply. An advert on the side isn’t the same as something flapping about. Flags fixed on can be blown or fall off into traffic behind.

Siope Mon 24-Jun-24 18:12:07

It is simple. None in TfL licensed vehicles. As decided 20 years ago, reinforced by Johnson, and loaned anout by some folk every Euros and World Cup.

Siope Mon 24-Jun-24 18:12:59

Moaned, not loaned.

Yes it’s been a rule for ages, not something thought up by Sadiq Khan, but it won’t stop some people bashing him for anything they don’t like.

vegansrock Mon 24-Jun-24 18:16:53

grannygravy how can you claim you aren’t bashing Khan? Look at the title of your thread.

Nandalot Mon 24-Jun-24 18:18:35

GrannyGravy13, if a London black cab was flying a Palestinian flag, that would be against the rules too. TFL has stated:
“Any other signage or flags are not permitted because they could cause a distraction to other drivers and road users. These guidelines apply to all flags and signage. We expect all taxi and private hire operators and drivers to comply.”

So, after all this fuss, we find its regulations.

Definitely all or none of course.

It is public transport. So buses, trains and taxis have rules to which they have to adhere.

Taxis have always flown flags the England flag during rugby 6 nations, football tournaments and of course the union flag during the 2012 Olympics.

I was in London yesterday, I saw taxi’s flying the Pride flag.

Taxi’s are able to have advertising all over their paintwork, just as busses and trains have advertising on them.

Not sure your point holds up.

It’s Khan isn’t it? It’s what I would expect of the man.

Cossy Mon 24-Jun-24 18:50:03

I agree, it’s utterly ridiculous and pointless and quite divisive!!

Cossy Mon 24-Jun-24 18:51:24

Aaah just read the entire post, that’ll teach me, need to get little flags.

Sparklefizz Mon 24-Jun-24 19:26:22

Glorianny I was wondering though if you were an Arab or Muslim woman would you feel safe getting into a taxi flying the England flag? Or would you be worried about the driver?

.... and vice versa?

HousePlantQueen Mon 24-Jun-24 19:58:25

Do we expect an apology from those of you churning out rubbish? Please read Siope's posts.

Primrose53 Mon 24-Jun-24 20:11:52

Just remembering the blimp (balloon) of Khan in a bikini flying over London in 2018. 🤣🤣

In the same note I wouldn't be happy riding in a cab flying a Palestinian flag. How's that ?

Can we get that out again. This man must be the most divisive mayor the people of London have ever voted for. Well done all of you.

Casdon Mon 24-Jun-24 20:34:12

As black cabs are not permitted to have any flags or stickers, and haven’t been for years, I’m beginning to wonder if we are in a parallel universe here. If you see any cab with any flag or sticker, report it. Job done.

vegansrock Mon 24-Jun-24 20:36:14

freya5 you’re forgetting the worse mayor - one B Johnson - well done you.

HousePlantQueen Mon 24-Jun-24 20:50:34

This thread is a disgrace.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jun-24 03:58:14

This is how ignorance and wilful unpleasantness gets spread.

You don’t have to look far under the surface to understand why.

At least he wasn't divisive, still that what you like it seems. Well done you.

vegansrock Tue 25-Jun-24 08:15:26

Freya5 Johnson not divisive! Give your head a wobble- he got the backs up of the police, the firefighters, anyone who wanted a non corrupt administration. Well done you.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Jun-24 09:17:42

A blind eye can be turned for Pride, as it was for the Olympics, so why not the Euros?

Sport is big, especially in major U.K. Cities, a well secured flag is far less a danger than many other things on and around London streets. I m obviously in the minority on this, but hey ho there you go.

The licensed tuk tuks are bedecked with flags, feather boas and deafening music, along with erratic peddling/road behaviour?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Jun-24 09:21:42

👍

Casdon Tue 25-Jun-24 09:24:38

I don’t think there should be any blind eyes GrannyGravy. They are all providing a service, there is no need for them ever to advertise anything about the beliefs of the driver. It’s one thing that was put right under Boris Johnson’s reign in London.

HousePlantQueen Tue 25-Jun-24 09:58:07

Still no acknowledgement that this thread is malicious and untrue. When I see how many on GN have gleefully repeated an untruth ...shame on you
