It isn't just the Conservatives! A senior Labour MP has been betting against his chances of keeping his seat and an activist has been suspended for running a 'honeytrap' operation aimed at Conservative members

The police said that a man was arrested on suspicion of harassment and committing offences under the Online Safety Act.

Not much to choose between them is there?

He's an actor presumably placed as a plant to discredit The Reform Party. An investigation is underway. The mainstream parties are certainly getting worried.

Then they must have had several actors because someone at the party headquarters was saying similar things.

Labour damage caused was more personal, though it affected millions besides me both then and now.
I haven’t denied any damage done by the Conservatives, but remember, the reason we have a Conservative government is because voters didn’t like what Labour did.

The reason we kept a Conservative government is because voters didn’t trust Labour.
The reason we’ll get a Labour government this time is because people now trust Conservatives less than Labour.

I don't expect them too. Reform are a shiny new party, hopefully will get a few seats. Little acorns grow into big oak trees. It's a start to break the two party stronghold.

“A shiny new party” I think not! They “evolved” from the Brexit Party, which in turn contained many previous UKIP.

They are neither “shiny” nor “new”. At best they are tarnished recycled!

Reform UK canvasser calls for ‘target practice’ on people arriving by boat

The undercover investigator went on the campaign trail with a Reform UK canvasser, Andrew Parker, who says he knows Nigel Farage.

In a car en route to canvassing potential voters, Mr Parker gives the undercover investigator advice on what to say on the doorstep.

“The immigration thing, use the word ‘illegal’. Emphasise ‘illegal’ especially if you open the door and there’s a bunch of p****.”

Giving his view on Muslims and what the party would do with mosques, Mr Parker says to the undercover investigator:

“Sick mate. Sick m*****f******”, adding: “It’s a cult. I tell you what, if you don’t know about Islam, it is the most disgusting cult out”. “We’re f**** kicking all the Muslims out of the mosques and turning them into Wetherspoons.“

In the same conversation, Mr Parker describes Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as a “f**** p***”.

“I’ve always been a Tory voter,” he says, “but what annoys me is that f**** p* we’ve got in. What good is he? You tell me, you know. He’s just wet. F**** useless”.

Talking to a prospective voter on the doorstep, Mr Parker is also heard expressing his views on how to stop the boats, suggesting army recruits should carry out “target practice”.

“You’ve got Deal, haven’t you. The place near Dover. Army recruitment. Get the young recruits there, yeah, with guns on the f**** beach, target practice. F**** just shoot them. That is what the Greeks done… You know about that. The Greeks shot a load… Ringfence Bradfordstan. Round the f**** up. Do that f**** lot as well. And you’ve got these bastards running our country. You must be f**** joking mate.”

He later tells a man who says he’s a paramedic to deny oxygen to a patient in an ambulance if they are “any of that f**** lot”.

“And do us a favour. You’re a paramedic. Any of that f**** lot get in your ambulance, just don’t put oxygen on the bastard. Use something else. You know where I’m coming from”, he says.

Reform UK campaign figure outlines vision

The programme’s report returns to the scene at a Clacton pub where senior campaign figures meet. Mr Jones tells the undercover investigator why Reform UK chose Clacton, saying:

“Have a look around. Proper England. You know what I mean? Proper English. Not like in London when you’re a foreigner in your own country, and if you say ‘hello’ to someone they look like they’re about to f**** knife you in the face”.

Later, joined by Mr Gravett and Mr Bates, Mr Jones makes homophobic comments, as a police car passes by displaying a Pride flag.

“You see that f**** degenerate flag on the front bonnet? What are the old bill doing promoting that crap? They should be out catching nonces not promoting the f******.”

Later, outlining their vision for a future Reform government, Mr Gravett is heard saying: “When we form the government in 2029 then surely we can change lots of things”.

In response, Mr Jones is heard saying “our police officers will be paramilitaries, they won’t be police” and that Reform UK should “bring back the noose”.

Today’s reporting from Channel 4 News comes amidst new MRP polling from Electoral Calculus, which predicts Reform UK could win as many as 18 seats in next week’s election.

And still some on GN describe this party as shiny and new. Disgusting

MaizieD Fri 28-Jun-24 09:25:41

Is that what they call 'telling it like it is'?

Goodness, it's disgusting...

No surprise in their undercover investigation.

Well they have certainly got your attention. A shiny new party compared to the Tories and Labour.

Yes they had my attention a couple of nights ago - foul mouthed people whom I would be embarrassed to be in the same room with let alone vote for them.

You have the right to your opinion, however inaccurate that is.

Actually, MaizieD isn’t wrong, from an economic perspective at least.

If you want to provide an example of another area which was left worse by Labour than it is now though Mollygo I’ll willingly check it out against reputable sources.

The difference between Labour and the Tories is that the Tories have been in power now for 14 years and wrecked the country.

Different complaints, but much the same arguments as we used after 13 years of Labour.
Probably much the same arguments as will be used when we want to get rid of the next government.

As Labour left the country in pretty good order and the tories have actually been wrecking it for the past 14 years, perhaps the electorate might reflect on this experience a bit more carefully next time they're asked to choose hmm

And McVey's husband MP placed a bet of £8,000 to lose. £8,000???!!!

Esther McVey's husband is Sir Philip Davies, who was a sitting MP.

By betting a huge sum on himself losing, he is like a boxer falling down at the first punch - a complete travesty, shockingly dis-honourable.

If he is found guilty of this he should not only be kicked out of the Conservative Party, he should be prosecuted and should certainly be stripped of his knighthood.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 27-Jun-24 10:50:36

Reform are hugely suspect. Farage speaking to Nick Robinson last week confirmed his admiration for Putin and believed the West was responsible for the war in Ukraine. As for Trump well he was a good mate. They are as right wing as you can get. Farage is an opportunist. Richard Tice just looks like a spare part as he parades about. When he was asked recently about certain members and their racist remarks he replied he wasn’t bothered as this election was “presidential” and only leaders mattered.

I am regularly polled by YouGov.

I live in the sort of constituency that traditionally would vote for a pig if it wore a blue rosette, but at the last election an Independent candidate reduced the Tory’s huge majority to a much smaller one and with boundary changes there’s a real chance of the LibDems getting in.

Our previous Tory MP once defended his many additional paid jobs by saying that being an MP isn’t a job at all, it’s merely a role! The current one has always voted along with the government, but with an election in view he now reframes himself as someone who is against all the things he voted for.

Disgraceful as if they haven't got enough money. I'm in Ester McVey's constituency Tatton I have voted for her in the past but never again will I vote Tory, I'm voting Reform whether that will allow Labour to get in (probably) but I'm not voting for lies and broken promises anymore.

They’re not a shiny new party. They’re a reincarnation of old parties like UKIP and the BNP. Bit like a snake shedding it’s skin….

eazybee Thu 27-Jun-24 10:20:49

The predominant factor in this election seems to be tactical voting. Nothing matters but 'Get the Tories Out' and posters are appearing proclaiming this. But insufficient thought is being given to their replacement, under the delusion that nothing could be worse.
People on the doorstep are saying that for the first time in their life they have no idea how they will vote and are genuinely concerned for the future; fed up with Tories, mistrust Starmer and fear Labour , dislike the (local) Lib Dem candidate's record as a councillor and consider Ed Davey's campaign ridiculous.
I don't blame people for their dissatisfaction with the Conservatives, but sadly many decent MPs will be sacrificed and replaced by a mish-mash of totally inexperienced novices, rather like Blair's babes. I received a flier yesterday from a local Labour candidate full of bland promises, who had no idea she was canvassing in the wrong ward against the wrong candidate.

Will this particular election get the award for "Most Scandal Infested Poll In The Entire History Of British Politics"?
It's certainly a front-runner. No party has exactly covered themselves in glory!

No think out of the box and vote Reform. Nothing will change with the Tories or Labour. Also do you trust the Polls have you ever been asked who you are voting for? Or are we being manipulated? Remember the Brexit vote and the I think it was 1992 Neil Kinnock moment when it was predicted he was a dead cert to win.

No Reform candidate in this constituency. He pulled out after the revelation that he urged people to vote for the BNP. His name is still on the ballot papers apparently.

We’ve been talking about the betting incidents including the Labour one here.

All I know about the honey trap incident so far is that it was somebody who was a member of the Labour Party, do you know more Monica?
