Trump and Biden head to head

A well conducted interview with these two candidates for President. Much, much better than any interviews our mob put on here. The future of America is in one of their hands. God help them. Both slagging each other off on a personal level, one of them lost the plot half way in and both lying through their teeth. Starmer and Sunak are a couple of pleasant, courteous gentlemen compared with them.

Galaxy Fri 28-Jun-24 18:40:08

I have just watched some of it and I agree he was strong there (although I hate the way Americans 'perform' politics, I would rather have Starmer and Sunak bickeringgrin)

I have watches snippets, and like most people, I feel that Biden's days are over. I sense he is a decent man, and is surrounded by an excellent team, but he is no longer fit to be President. To be honest, the bar was set low, and everyone ended up focusing on Biden's cognitive failings, rather than on the ranting liar, convicted rapist and felon on the stage with him. This is the tragedy.

I have said before that I despise the Republicans for their power at any price policy ie keeping Trump as their main candidate, but I now feel the same about the Democrats.

This is a worry for all of us, not just for USA.

Indeed it is.
If Trump wins, heaven forbid, what will happen to Ukraine?
What will happen in Israel?
I’m afraid for the world.

So you make judgements on snippets ?
Those snippets will put Biden in a bad light because that makes better news.
Biden did a great speech today in N Carolina.
He didn’t have to deal with Trumps lies and rants. It showed him as the leader that he is.

I thought I had a problem in deciding who to vote for in our election, but I’m glad I don’t live in America, because the choice is impossible. I could never vote for Trump, absolutely never, but I would have a real problem voting for Biden after last night. I didn’t watch the whole thing, I only saw highlights.

Which makes it unfair to judge. Biden did the best he could with Trump and all his lies and allegations. Biden’s presidency record is a strong one . That’s what counts !

Galaxy Fri 28-Jun-24 19:45:25

It isnt. I am sorry but it just isnt. I find people who are trying to convince me that what I can see with my own eyes isnt true, really scary.

Yes I agree his record is good - with the odd exception . But it is going forward that must be looked at.

Yes Biden has been a much better Potus than trump was or ever could be. That doesn’t mean he’s well enough to continue in the role. It was excrutiating. Trump is dangerous, the Democrats have to win the vote and the undecided aren’t likely to vote biden
Jill Biden’s patronising well done Joe, yiu answered every question put the tin lid on it for me. Awful

varian Fri 28-Jun-24 20:02:24

I remember hearing a discussion between some Democratic women two or three years ago about whether Joe Biden would run again.

The consensus was that he should not because he would be too old and they all agreed that his wife would not let him.

I'm sorry to say this but Jill Biden has let down her husband and the Democratic party and the USA by not persuading him to hand over to a younger Democrat

Anniebach Fri 28-Jun-24 20:38:49

‘They all agreed that his wife would not let him ! ! ! !

It sure was.
Biden is fine with a teleprompt he can just read but he needs to be on top of his game as POTUS and can’t be meeting, say, a top politician from Taiwan and then thinks he’s in China, or forget what he’s saying mid answer, or to say the wrong words.

JenniferEccles Fri 28-Jun-24 22:22:21

Did anyone hear how Biden’s wife spoke to him after the debate?
She told him how well he had done and that he had answered every question.
Her tone of voice and exaggerated enthusiasm, sounded just as if she was speaking to a small child.

Just imagine if Biden won, which of course could well happen, as Trump is by no means an ideal President.

You can’t believe everything you read in the right wing press

Syracute Fri 28-Jun-24 22:39:21

Meanwhile my sister has just seen him in NYC where he will deliver his second speech of the day in NYC

Callistemon213 Fri 28-Jun-24 22:44:51

Do you mean rightwing press like The Guardian, Syracute?

The first US presidential debate in Atlanta on Thursday was the night that Democrats went from “Don’t panic!” to “OK, time to panic!” After months of preparation and expectation, they got to the altar and suddenly realised they were marrying the wrong man.

In 90 miserable minutes, Joe Biden achieved two things that had seemed impossible. He lived down to expectations that were already rock bottom. And he managed to make Donald Trump sound almost coherent. Trump did not win the debate but Biden certainly lost it.

Not that Trump should be let off the hook. This was an unwatchable debate between an old man who could not finish a sentence and an old man who could not tell the truth. It was Rip Van Winkle versus Pinocchio.

Lovetopaint037 Fri 28-Jun-24 23:01:56

Biden’s wife was acting like his carer. The way she praised him at the end was like someone talking to a child praising him to encourage him. Then helping him down the steps. It is very sad that old age has reduced his capabilities but it is a tragedy for America and the world that he can’t see this for himself. The First Lady is doing him no favours but I read (rightly or wrongly) that she enjoys her status.

Well that is a report I do not agree with. You are comparing a President with a full on schedule as President and on the campaign trail with Trump who only has to figure out how to dupe his supporters in to paying his legal bills. Like I said Biden was will be giving his second speech of the day.

Why can’t somebody like Anthony Blinken be the Democrat candidate? Biden makes great speeches, I’m sure he doesn’t use autocue, either. Far more eloquent than Trump has ever been capable of. He also used to suffer from a stammer, something that perhaps is still a problem. They did say that his sons trial broke him. There should have been a fact check during that debate. Trump was lying throughout. Eg he lied about offering Nancy Pelosi protection.

There was a fact check after the debate and Trump was found lying 30 different times. That people think he won this debate means you were not really listening to what Trump was saying . I mean he repeated himself constantly and just paid no mind to what the moderators said. The things he said were so ludicrous it was obvious they were lies.

MayBee70 Fri 28-Jun-24 23:43:50

I read an article that said Biden was taken aback by having to respond to constant lies.

nanna8 Sat 29-Jun-24 01:19:10

Just hope Biden is better at his next meeting with Trump. My husband said Biden’s eyes looked very strange and I think he was right. No comment as to what would cause that. 👀

What are you implying?

nanna8 Sat 29-Jun-24 08:14:56

Watch it yourself and you will know what I mean. He just wasn’t with it. I watched all of it, live, because their Timezone fits ours.

Callistemon213 Sat 29-Jun-24 08:28:03

But, Syracute, you said:
You can’t believe everything you read in the right wing press

And when I quoted a paper which is definitely not right wing you dispute that report too.

I hope he'll be better too, nanna8 because that was a dire performance.
He should be used to Trump's lies by now and able to deal with him robustly.

I despair.
