Trump and Biden head to head

I watched the whole debate live and have to say Trump came out better than Biden. No question, whichever of the two you support. If I was the Americans I would find another candidate for the Democrats asap. What if Biden dies in office, who would take over then or is that too difficult for them to work out? Surely not.

That depends who is nominated but would likely benefit the Democrat vote.

The continual attack by Trumps seemed to disorientate Biden which then made him hesitant, it was embarrassing. Attacking in that way may prove to be a mistake by Trump if a nominee with wide appeal replaces Biden.

That's why I was trying to get a US perspective on it from Syracute.

Would it attract more Democrat voters?

Or would it be too late for anew candidate to establish themselves?

I see there is another debate scheduled for early Spetember.

Unfortunately Trump lied convincingly but Biden told the truth unconvincingly. I just hope people didn’t fall for those lies.

Maybe this has already been mentioned on other threads, but didn’t Biden say he would only serve one term? I’m also surprised that his wife, who by all accounts is an intelligent woman, hasn’t persuaded her husband to stand down.

I absolutely disagree. Biden listened to the moderator and Trump . He might take his time because he was thinking of how to answer. Don’t forget that Biden has a stutter that makes his speech difficult but he did answer the questions of the moderator and responded to Trump. The drivel and absolute lies that Trump responded with were at times appalling. Including his repeated claim of it noe being possible to abort a live born baby in some states. Biden is leading the country in a competent manner now and has a proven track record.

Not in the reputable newspapers . No Democrat has come out saying that. Those that think Trump won are easily convinced by a liar. He was fact checked with over 30 different lies. Let’s not forget that January 6th was a vile event that most US citizens have not forgot about.

I've been on Reuters and it seems many countries feel that it's time for Biden to go to give the Democrats a chance.

I’m hoping all the court cases will do for him, but if it is anything like this country nothing will stop his supporters from voting for him.

We have his follower Nigel Farage running for Parliament and he is clearly attracting the same sort of supporters that Trump supports.

It is so depressing. I was just talking to a friend about the state of affairs in this country and we were wondering when this far right politics began to rear its head.

Post WW2 there was a clear consensus in the U.K. between the the political parties - just a bit right or left. And the sort of politics and his followers that Farage and Trump represents were probably around, but only popping from their sewers every now and then - we had a notorious “the rivers of blood” speech from a right wing politician about the Windrush generation.

But the latest phenomenon has only really come into existence with Brexit.

From a totally neutral UK point of view I would expect him to resign rather than face being removed, which would divide the party. That would be a victory for Trump.

Of course he may still have the party behind him and carry on

l've just had a look at a vote in The Times on this debate. 85% thought Trump was the winner. Unless Biden goes, Trump will win. Biden is a decent man who came 10 years too late for the job. Trump only has only to lie low and let poor old Biden melt down, to win.

It seems to me that people only listen to how people say things, not what they actually say.

Yes. I was just thinking that, too. And who started all the Brexit division? Farage. And what did he use as a tool? Immigration. Imo all the real nastiness started when Jo Cox was murdered. Something that, at the time, I thought would bring an end to it.

Not sure that makes sense.The US and many EU countries are moving to the right wing view but we here in the UK are moving to the left wing view.The Labour Party are going to have a landslide win in under a fortnight.

In the local election race Reform are polled at 15%, with LD at 36%, Tory at 32%, predicted to overturn a Tory 20,000 majority, unprecedented if it happens.

I can see your point, but the thing is election are won or lost by the floating voter, and I’m not convinced that Biden’s performance was sufficient to convince these people.

Yes he will have convinced (perhaps)his supporters, but I think what is undeniable that his performance was honestly a complete disaster.

I think that Biden has been a brilliant and loyal servant to the USA, but I honestly think that someone (Jill, Obama, Clinton)) needs to step in now (quickly) to advise him to step aside and think very intelligently as to who would be the best candidate to defeat Trump, it would not be hard - just someone who is quick witted enough to think on his feet so call Trump out for the liar, racist snd bigot he is. In fact the chap on the YouTube video could be in the running.

If Trump gets in we have plan 2025 rearing up in front of the world which apart from the awful domestic politics he is intent on pursuing -we in the rest of the world will see a puppet of Putin in Ukraine, Taiwan ruled by the Chinese with a much stronger China and all the fall out from that. That along with a weakened NATO spells a period of danger for us in the western world.

It is all too important to risk, and an aging man who we admire and like is not important enough to risk what could be a disaster for us all.

And don’t forget that the old school advisors that existed when Trump was last in the WH are all gone and he has surrounded himself with a rabble from the hard right.

Spot on, that’s how I felt too, it seemed cruel to make him stand there and do it.

I thought I had a problem in deciding who to vote for in our election, but I’m glad I don’t live in America, because the choice is impossible. I could never vote for Trump, absolutely never, but I would have a real problem voting for Biden after last night. I didn’t watch the whole thing, I only saw highlights.
