Trump and Biden head to head

A well conducted interview with these two candidates for President. Much, much better than any interviews our mob put on here. The future of America is in one of their hands. God help them. Both slagging each other off on a personal level, one of them lost the plot half way in and both lying through their teeth. Starmer and Sunak are a couple of pleasant, courteous gentlemen compared with them.

Hes team are currently behaving in the cruelest way possible.

I have a terrible sense of dread if Trump becomes President again.
I certainly think that Biden is too old, too frail, too slow, etc, but I'd choose him over Trump any time.

Of course many will do the same and choose an ailing Biden over Trump if they are strong Democrats but it’s the undecideds, the floating voters who will be swayed by seeing Biden failing to complete a sentence or getting mixed up.

Yes, and that's awful. I wish the Democrats would choose a young dynamic candidate.

I have changed my mind about Biden. Someone on GN mentioned her husband saying his eyes look strange and I thought I was imagining it until I read these posts. His eyes remind me exactly of someone with dementia. I watched more videos of him and I now believe that he definitely has Alzheimers. It is too familiar to me. It is sad.

Macadia I don’t understand why Jill Biden and his children, never mind their political advisors, aren’t persuading him to stand down. I’d not usually expect wives to try and control their husbands but this wouldn’t be control it would be loving care

Shame they can't have him.

I agree with this.
He became confused about Kamala Harris last night. He probably knew he was trying to mention her being the first black, female Vice President, but he couldn’t arrange the words to convey the meaning.

I don’t think it’s appropriate to diagnose dementia on a social media site, but what I do think is that anyone running for such a major role as president, or indeed PM in U.K., should have a neurological assessment in addition to physical medical tests.

henetha Sat 06-Jul-24 10:32:46

How about Anthony Blinken (USA Secretary of State) for President? He seems highly suitable.
However, I had a email yesterday from my American pen friend defending Biden. She says he is an honourable man and highly popular and will still make a good President.
And, rightly so, she loathes Trump.

maddyone Sat 06-Jul-24 10:40:18

Honourable and highly popular are admirable qualities, but surely anyone going for such an important role should be able to speak confidently and without becoming mixed up and confused.
I feel a bit sorry for him really, but he is now clearly unable perform the role expected of him as President.
Unfortunately he’s opening up the way to Trump.

Good to hear from someone in the US. I don't know if he's fit for the job or not, as the media are looking out for any stumbles, we don't get the full picture.

maddyone Sat 06-Jul-24 11:01:17

That’s true Wyllow, but we cannot deny the episodes we’ve seen are extremely worrying.

I really think things are getting worse for him and he needs to retire gracefully. I just feel for him, it is embarrassing to watch him. Whoever is advising him to stay needs to have a good hard look at themself.

Farzanah, after giving it more thought, I stand corrected: A dementia diagnosis can only be done by a professional in a medical office setting and cannot be done by the general public (such as me) from analysing behavior. It is not fair to anyone suffering this cruel disease and I apologise for my ignorance in my post.

With that said, I watched the latest Biden interview with George Stephanopoulos www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kpibhlagG0 and can most definitely state my opinion that Biden should not run for president and his wife Jill, needs to step in here.

We all feel sorry for Biden that he is loosing his mental ability, but that is not a reason for him to continue for reelection, some in his own party are telling him to do that.

Trump has backed off attacking him because he does not want a sympathy vote for Biden. Jill Biden is the key to this she needs to realize it is not in the nations interest for him to continue.

I was waiting for someone to ask who that handsome young man is, but maybe you all know? 😄

Looks like Joe Biden many many years ago...

Chestnut Sun 07-Jul-24 10:50:40

Yes it is Joe Biden! I was so astonished I didn't think anyone else would recognise him.

Granmarderby10 Sun 07-Jul-24 11:21:16

Who is that in the second photo though ?

Thankyou Callistemon213 for the link, these photos are both amazing and heartbreaking.

Chestnut Sun 07-Jul-24 14:03:38

Yes, thanks for the link. That's amazing to see all those photos. Sadly his time has passed, perhaps the 80s or 90s would have been right.

Does anyone know why Kamala Harris is not popular? She is the obvious replacement but people don't seem to like her.

winterwhite Sun 07-Jul-24 15:56:25

Chestnut when I asked an America why Kamala Harris wasn't popular I was told that she lacked judgement and had made some unpopular decisions.

She is liberal even by Californian standards that does not go down well with a great many voters, if Biden does drop out I would be very surprised to see her get the nomination.
However it is the USA and crazy things happen - they elected Trump
