What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

Siope Fri 28-Jun-24 21:03:05

Farage is a racist, and there’s shedloads of evidence from his own mouth to prove it.

But if he spoke for any kind of majority, silent or otherwise, he wouldn’t have failed to become an MP so many times. I hope he fails again next week.

A tiny part of me, however, would quite enjoy seeing him in the House of Commons, being obliged to explain where his funding both comes from and where it goes, being held accountable by the Standards Committee and, one hopes, voters of all stripes in his constituency.

It is because of the demography on GN.

We get a skewed idea on here.

QT audience see Farage for what he is. Fiona Bruce better than in the last QT
After some posts on gransnet I’m encouraged by the QT audience x

MayBee70 Fri 28-Jun-24 20:51:09

She picked him up on trade figures didn’t she

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Jun-24 20:49:52

So Farage’s answer to immigrants is to get the Royal Marines to dump them back on Frances beaches😀😀😀.

I suspect that the French navy might have something to say about that.

What a nonsense.

RosiesMaw Fri 28-Jun-24 20:48:58

Clearly (to me anyway) like is attracted to like.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Jun-24 20:43:47

All he ever talks about is process never about his policies.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 28-Jun-24 20:39:47

Chestnut, as I have explained on previous threads, a significant contribution to the population increase is the number of people living longer: that'll be me, then - is it you?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Jun-24 20:37:15

QT - Farage is fully channeling his inner Trump - he learnt at the master’s knee.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

Fiona Bruce is good.

He is looking ridiculous.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 28-Jun-24 20:36:42

Oreo , it's sorry in posh talk: the sort that NF says is " Oxford" language of which he's rather critical .

I find it truly shocking that some people have it in for Nigel Farage. He speaks for the silent majority in this country. He is not racist in any shape or form. He is the only one to tell the truth of what is really going on - the poisoning of our way of life, the indoctrination of our children, all the woke idealogy, killing our democracy and decency and he is the only one who has the guts to challenge it and put the British people first, whatever their creed or colour. It is an absolute disgrace that the establishment disparage him. He is not far right. People need to be educated. Well done Nigel !

People need to be educated...

They do indeed - especially those racist bigots attracted to Reform who don't know that Rishi Sunak is a Hindu born and bred in England. Not a f***ing Pak*** bast**d.

Whatever trajectory of the Right you do not believe Nigel is on or not on - he attracts some very unsavoury people.

And that might be why some have it in for him?

As for the silent majority - well count me out. I think, in fact, you are a minority and, given the opportunity, one that is not particularly silent.

I worked for the NHS when Tony Blair was in power. He was a great advocate of using private health care alongside the NHS.

We mustn't believe that things in the NHS were great then, they weren't. Take the 'no more than 4 hours' wait in A&E. Sure, that happened, but patients were just moved to another waiting area.

Also, the brilliant book/TV series, This is Going to Hurt, by ex doctor Adam Kay was all set in hospital under Labour. If you know of it you'll appreciate that life in the NHS was anything but easy. Stressed junior doctors, mistakes being made etc etc

The NHS has been crumbling for decades. It needs reform.

Maybe the NHS is on its knees because we have over 5 million more people in the UK than when the Tories came in.

The population increased by 4 million in the 13 years that Labour was in power. They managed to accommodate the increase...

HousePlantQueen …. I am shocked. Disgusted. I wonder what your children and grandchildren think

When I was at primary school in the 1950’s. It was entirely white British. The first black people I saw were American GI’s from the airbase in our village. My own children made friends at school and I’d no idea they were black/brown until they came to tea. My grandchildren attend primary schools with children from so many backgrounds and seem oblivious to any difference, other than Bobby is the best footballer, Nate the fastest runner, Grace really good at numbers, Mary best footballer
I’d be horrified if my grandchildren were being encouraged to develop racist views

Sorry , Oreo : mea culpa!

Not sure what that means, but thanks for the sorry😄it’s easy to lose track and mix up posters particularly with the multi quote facility I find, where you can’t tell who said what easily.

He doesn't speak for me either! Just back from hols so I haven't read all this thread but does anyone really believe that this was a set up? Surely there's enough evidence around about the sort of people who are linked with Farage that there's no need to set anything up. Farage is a populist who appeals to the very worst in people and that is why he collects the very worst people around him. He's an entertaining speaker but that doesn't make him a person with the values that I care about.

I’m ashamed and disgusted*to share internet space with some of the people that have commented on this thread. sad

* oh, and sickened….

I find it disturbing to confirm that some people with whom I have exchanged chit chat, opinions on everything from holidays to family difficulties are excusing these disgusting people and their inflammatory language. As if that wasn't bad enough, there is also the usual load of lies and nonsense about indoctrination, sharia law. Rather like the multiple repeats of the lies about Sadiq Khan.

We don't always agree on everything, but when some of you start excusing racism, lies, violence.....I am shocked. Disgusted. I wonder what your children and grandchildren think.

Yes - but no one on the campaign bus challenged any of it, if ch4 hadn’t been filming we wouldn’t know

You’re right Iam, and I’m amazed that he had the brass nerve to say what he said in front of a camera crew. However, it’s better that he did, because now he’s been exposed.

And he would still be encouraging any paramedics he meets to not treat some people.

Sago

James O’Brien who attended Ampleforth and LSE.
He is the most smug, arrogant, hypocritical and rude presenter I have ever listened to.
He just stirs up hatred.

Why is someone who is intelligent enough to accept that we cannot keep housing more and more immigrants considered a racist?

Why is someone who does not accept Stonewalls teachings and values to young children a homophobe?

Why is someone who is aware of the dreadful attacks and appalling treatment of women around the world by Muslims an Islamaphobe?

which James O'Brien do you listen to? It doesn't sound as if is the same one I do.

I'm not sure which law was broken. Being a racist and calling people racist names isn't against the law, unless it falls into a few categories. Nevertheless, not breaking the law doesn't mean that something is morally right and clearly this wasn't.

I thought it was, but maybe I’m wrong.
Of course it wasn’t morally acceptable, whether breaking the law or not.

Whitewavemark2 Nigel Farage has made a statement which was all over the news this morning stating that the people who were filmed making the racist and homophobic remarks were no longer welcome in Reform U.K.

I heard that too.
The person who made these vile remarks is excluded from the party.
