I've NEVER been asked who I'm going to vote for and don't know anyone else who has. Has any Gransnetter been polled?
I don't understand how the polls have any credence

Mamardoit Wed 03-Jul-24 17:29:03

Never.

Plenty of leaflets. Three from the Tories. He's the sitting MPs but we are new to his constituency. I got one in an envelope addressed to me from the Greens. I voted Green at the local election but there is no way they would have known that....or is there?

Casdon Wed 03-Jul-24 17:27:19

Yes, twice, once by phone and once I was stopped on the street.

Gillycats Wed 03-Jul-24 17:24:39

Yes, with YouGov.

Sago Wed 03-Jul-24 17:20:51

No but I have been asked how I am going to vote by someone official outside the polling station.
I replied by putting a tick in the appropriate box. 😬

DamaskRose Wed 03-Jul-24 17:02:05

I have been exit polled once, that’s all.
Plenty of leaflets through the door this time (all read except SNP because I would never, under any circumstances, vote for them). Annoyingly DH received personal leaflets from the Tories and Labour, he never corresponds with either and I do!

CoolCoco Wed 03-Jul-24 16:56:39

Yes if you sign up for YouGov they often do polls.

I have read all the leaflets which have been delivered to me eazybee. They have all been delivered by the postman - nobody has taken the trouble to deliver a leaflet in person therefore no canvassing. And I have received nothing from some of the candidates who are standing, only the main three parties and Reform.

Georgesgran Wed 03-Jul-24 16:30:49

Never - but when I did a local government qualification, it seemed polling was a fairly accurate way of assessing voting.
That was last Century, of course!

eazybee Wed 03-Jul-24 16:26:19

Yes, several times and I have done a lot of canvassing as well.

It makes me more than a little cross to read facetious comments about 'nobody canvassing me', and 'all the leaflets going into the bin.'
Many people from all parties have volunteered to spend the past six weeks preparing and delivering information, attempting to canvass voters at home, and answer questions to the best of their ability, therefore it is very disheartening to learn that people don't even bother to read the information available, then criticise the parties for not reaching out to them.
This forthcoming election is a serious one, and I am surprised about how little some people care about major issues.
I feel apathetic should join the list of words to sum up present-day Britain.

Never, and we have been here seven years now. I think I may well vote for the first person who turns up on my doorstep. But since it is now Wednesday afternoon they will have to hurry. Sheaves of leaflets though that go straight in the bin .

Had plenty of leaflets but no canvassers. In fact we have received several leaflets from the Conservative candidate - is she worried do you think? Our area in Kent is Tory held currently with a respectable MP but we are being moved to join another Tory stronghold - can’t say I am impressed with the current/prospective MP and word on the street is that she is not a likeable person - not that I’d vote Conservative any way!

LizzieDrip Wed 03-Jul-24 14:19:20

Never.

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 14:17:30

Yes, I do know the difference, but added in about who has/has not canvassed us.
I have never been polled.

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Jul-24 14:08:10

I think there is confusion here about polling and canvassing - as Siope says.

Have a look at her post at 13.50.

Jaberwok Wed 03-Jul-24 14:00:24

No, only one leaflet from the Lib Dems and one leaflet + today, a letter from our current Conservative MP. Decided my vote way back and have not been persuaded otherwise.

granfromafar Wed 03-Jul-24 13:52:27

Yes, for the first time this week. The councillors from the local Green Party knocked on the door. All the others have just bombarded us with leaflets, which go straight in the recycling box.

Siope Wed 03-Jul-24 13:50:51

Door knocking/canvassing isn’t the same as polling though. The results don’t feed into anything except individual parties’ planning and calculations.

National polling, using as a bare minimum representative samples from which to extrapolate a national position, is independent and more detailed, using questionnaires and surveys.

I assumed eddiecat was asking about the latter.

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 13:47:54

Me too Sarnia.
I would have some challenging things to say to them, whichever party is was. I think they simply don’t want the confrontation, and I mean that about whichever party they represented.

Sarnia Wed 03-Jul-24 13:43:46

No, never. Plenty of leaflets but nobody knocks. I have so much to say to them too grin

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 13:40:35

No, never.
We have now received a leaflet from the Liberal Dems Party and the Conservative Party through the door, but no one has called. No one ever does. No other leaflets even. There are about eight people standing though. All the main parties are represented and a couple of others and an Independent.

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Jul-24 13:27:09

I have never been asked to do an exit poll though.

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Jul-24 13:26:35

Yes, often, through yougov

Nannarose Wed 03-Jul-24 13:22:50

Yes, often.

dalrymple23 Wed 03-Jul-24 13:05:14

Never. No-one knocking at the door - this has not been done for years and years. In the early seventies I lived in Ealing. I had three babies in the house and no car. An incredibly nice young chap with a blue rosette drove me to the polling station and left his (female) colleague babysitting!! Oh trusting days........
