Flip! That's a lot of bad quite some burden to carry in such a high powered job.
I think someone got out of the wrong side of the bed
I’d like to feel optimistic that things will improve I really would - I was pleased Blair got in in 97, but this feels different some how?
I’m kind of dreading the next - god knows how many years - under Labour.
Oh well.

I find the snobbery of the attitude towards Angela Raynor by some truly shocking. I thought we had grown beyond that. AR is an intelligent and successful woman who has made her way without the advantages of some. Made her way on her own merit and deserves respect for that.
So have others but they know how to speak and behave in a position of responsibility. She is an embarrassment.

Dinahmo "None of the political parties has addressed the problem of elderly care."
I think you have missed what Ed Davey has been saying about social and personal care. One of the national newspapers said last week that ED's campaign has forced RS and KS to think seriously about social care at last.
Sorry, not me.

What you mean is that she doesn't have what is often regarded as a "posh" accent. I'm often accused of being posh by people who don't know me because of the way I speak. I ain't!

I think Angela Raynor is amazing and presents herself very well. Good luck to her and Sir Keir!

If we’re talking about people who know how to present themselves, forget all of them . . . Except Carla Denyer.

A sense of impending doom at the thought of a large Labour majority? Most definitely yes.
I’m quite certain Starmer will show his true colours pretty quickly when it becomes apparent that we’ve got a Corbyn inspired government, but by then it will be too late.
All of us on here are old enough to have lived through changes of government over the years, some we’ve voted for, others we most definitely haven’t and we’ve lived to tell the tale.
I’m trying to be philosophical about the current situation, but probably not succeeding.
One thing I do know for sure is that Labour will come after everyone who is reasonably comfortably off, who has a nice home in a good area, as well of course as the very wealthy.
As I am thinking, you said it much better than I could, just hoping its not a massive majority, if they get in and they can be kept under a tight rein.

I’m in the being realistic gang maddyone. I’d be negative and anxious if I thought we were about to elect another Conservative government. The total lack of concern for public services, the push towards privatisation has caused real damage. It will take years to re-build.
You do remember Blair increased privatisation, dont you?
Scaremongering.
What evidence for "when it becomes apparent that we’ve got a Corbyn inspired government, but by then it will be too late."

Under the last Labour government there were 35 food banks. Under the current (not for long) Tory government there are 3,572. They should be ashamed.
Let us put this into perspective, it is not just us facing higher food prices, it is a world wide problem. In Germany since 2023 the people using food banks has risen to over 12%, so around 2 million people in 2023 using them. Can't send link as my tablet does not let me, but easily Googled.
So ,if Starmer forms next Gov he'll have no say in world economics.
Freya yes I remember the Blair years well. Not perfect streets ahead of the last 14 dismal years.
Angela Rayner is a role model for the teenage girls who were enthusiastic members of the Girls Groups I ran with a colleague. One of them got a degree and works therapeutically with LAC chikdren and adult survivors.
Not everybody has an easy childhood, some grow and develop despite adversity. Angela is one of them

In a former life Starmer was a member of Socialist Alternatives, a magazine for the International Revolutionary Marxist Tendency, he denounced the use of "paramilitary policing", and questioned the role of the police in civil society.
Peter Hitchins, himself an ex Trotskyist does an eye opening talk on the case against Labour and Keir Starmer.
Let's see shall we.

Now why get the second hand version of the horrors in store when you can hear it for real as Michael Green channels Allister Heath of the Daily Telegraph.

And was nobody ever a youthful enthusiast? My lovely brother in law was a Marxist when my sister first brought him home to meet the family. They were first year degree students - her Theology and him Philosophy. Fortunately our parents didn’t panic. They were married for almost 50 very happy years. Both teachers.
Two of my closest friends were communist party members. Still happily married, children with successful careers, happy grandchildren etc. He runs a hugely successful business. Both self employed
So let’s not panic that youthful Starmer was idealistic, let’s hope some of that stays with him

I think only us common types understand what she means ( I I’m going to adopt it as my mantra)…
