Anyone else feel a sense of impending doom that we’ll have a Labour government tomorrow?

I’d like to feel optimistic that things will improve I really would - I was pleased Blair got in in 97, but this feels different some how?
I’m kind of dreading the next - god knows how many years - under Labour.
Oh well.

Not exactly doom but a feeling of embarrassment that flip flopping Starmer could be in charge and, even worse, will have the foul mouthed “gob on a stick” as she is frequently called, alongside him.

Imagine them representing our country with leaders from all nations and then they rock up! 🤮🤮
I will never forget that picture of the two of them taking the knee! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Who calls her "gob on a stick"? I haven't seen the description frequently used.

LizzieDrip Thu 04-Jul-24 14:23:32

Ah HomeAgain, the Mail - that explains it then!

Memories are clearly short

I do remember the last Labour government. Nothing wrong with my memory.

Tony Blair got us into a totally unnecessary war!

True but that's the only thing that can be said against him.

ronib Thu 04-Jul-24 14:37:37

MaizieD bit preoccupied with sorting out my 89 year old friend - am sure Labour will explain it all further down the line…. Unfortunately…..

I'll ignore your post then as it seems to have no basis in fact.

Same as I ignore people who cite the Daily Mail. Especially as it is supporting Farage...

I usually look at the DM online in the morning. It’s such an influential paper despite, or because, truth analysis and balance are so often missing from its articles

This morning was a storm of shouty headlines stating that ‘they’ ie the Labour Party is coming for your pensions, be afraid if you own a house etc etc. I’m not afraid. I’ll be terrified if the conservatives win,

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 04-Jul-24 14:41:49

I am feeling optimistic because if Labour are elected they surely can’t be worse than the utter shower we’ve had to put up with the last fourteen years.

There was a queue at the polling station this morning.

Mamardoit Thu 04-Jul-24 14:46:02

Just been to vote. Plenty down there and more arriving to vote. Quite surprised. That must be a good sign.

Seriously??
He negotiated the new G.P. and Dental contracts which has resulted in the catastrophic state of the NHS and no NHS dentists taking on new patients.
And invited the world and his uncle to come here and they are still arriving on a daily basis!
As I’ve said before, some people have very short memories.🙄

Wyllow3 Thu 04-Jul-24 14:48:55

I'm glad they took the knee. We tend to forget that it came soon after the Windrush scandal

Feel fine about Starmer as leader world-wise.

Feel the language used about Raynor is offensive worst sort of SM output.

What else do we expect of the DM on election day but unsubstantiated allegations against the LP? (targeted of course towards older people).

Labour getting in - relief - very modest expectations.

Just been told of unpleasant ‘letter’ going round to undecided tories in some constituencies. Takes the form of an imagined letter from the voter in 2044 to him/herself in 2024. Saying My pension is reduced to rags, why oh why did I vote Reform and let a Labour govt in back in 2024? Apparently very nasty.

What with that and KS’s negative remarks yesterday about Europe I begin to wonder whether there’ll be any Labour victory worth celebrating. 😳😨

Many reasons for anyone with their own home and savings to be concerned.

Please ! The Daily Mail is no place for facts but a great place to wind up and scare monger . Which from reading some posts here they have been quite successful !

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jul-24 14:54:31

I think taking the knee was appropriate, considering a man lost his life at the hands of police.

Peacefully made the point.

Who is actually voting for Labour in the real world? I know on here they have their fans but on social media not many want a Labour government yet the polls say otherwise, it's very strange, could the polls be wrong and will Labour voters bother getting out to vote if they think Labour have won already?

Well in the real world of my village voting booth.....I voted Labour. First time ever, but I am desperate to rid this country of the cheating, grasping Tory government.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 04-Jul-24 14:55:09

I was trying to assist a poster who seemed unable to provide a link, as I have already explained . I don’t read the DM.

NanKate Thu 04-Jul-24 14:55:52

Thank you for putting this thread on here today. The one time I asked for clarification of exactly what the Labour Party believed in, I was shot down in flames and no one would give me a straight answer.

My greatest concern is for Women’s Rights. Sir Keir seems to change his view depending on who asks him, or he avoids a straight answer.

There seemed to be a collective hysteria here because of something that happened in America - a very different country and with different policing methods.

Nigel Farage behaves like Mr Toad. And he even looks like a toad.

Is this really supposed to be an intelligent comment?

Incidentally, just for clarification, I will not be voting Reform.

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jul-24 14:57:44

I don't think quietly going down on one knee is exactly hysterical behaviour.
