Nadine Dorries and Anne Widdecombe are giving me indigestion.

Sunderland and Blyth. I'm not at all surprised. It's echoing the Brexit vote. NE still hasn't had any benefit, still 'left behind'.

True, commentator says was expected in Sunderland.

Leadsome (so) on bbc said Tory’s are ‘the natural party of government. That arrogance is part of the problem.

What does that even mean?

Clearly the electorate don't agree with her anyway - whatever it means.

DH has got the tv control and we are on BBC. Useless!

I think (and hope) that that explains the results. I also hope that something is done to reverse the swing to the Far Right. I agree that those areas are 'left behind' and someone needs to speak to the people there who are Old Labour, of the rather sexist and racist persuasion (and let's not pretend that the Left doesn't have a fair share of people who think that way). I may not share their outlook, but they are not basically fascist - they are politically homeless and want to protest about being patronised and ignored.

What are everyone's preferred election night snacks? DH and I have just had mushrooms on toast. Later I will have mini cheddars and DH has cheese straws.

Doodledog Thu 04-Jul-24 23:57:00

I have an uncharacteristic glass of wine and a strawberry meringue, which was all I could find in the fridge that would give me a dopamine hit grin. I considered salad and things that needed to be cooked, but went for sugar and alcohol. It feels worth it.

(I could go for mushrooms on toast though. . .)

Mamardoit Thu 04-Jul-24 23:58:04

I shouldn't have drunk the wine so quickly. But have have now made toast.

I’m watching itv in bed watching watching ch4
Reform seem popular confused

Mamardoit Thu 04-Jul-24 23:59:37

Are you on the wine, too? grin

Why not? It's only once in five years, and it's not usually cause for celebration.

Mamardoit Fri 05-Jul-24 00:04:12

Another Sunderland ...Referendum 2nd.

Doodledog Fri 05-Jul-24 00:04:25

Does Nadine Dorries have Vodka in that mug?

I’m watching Ch 4 but flicking around a bit, because Nadine Norris is driving me mad.

Not as mad as she must be driving Alastair. I’ve had to switch to Sky. I might try ITV. Poor Harriet too.

rafichagran Fri 05-Jul-24 00:08:28

Nadine Dorries is a real PITA. I don't agree with Anne Widdecombes views, but I don't find her as bad as Dorries.

Shinamae Fri 05-Jul-24 00:08:59

The best coverage is on GB news……🤓

She (ND) seems 'well refreshed'. Emily Maitliss is clearly irritated with her.

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 00:12:09

It must be really irritating Nadine when they talk about the number of Conservative MP’s going into the HOL’s!

Doodledog Fri 05-Jul-24 00:13:39

Fair point grin.

Why is the NE always first to declare? I've never understood that.

Doodledog Fri 05-Jul-24 00:17:00

Also, I think Rory Stewart talks a lot of sense. If we could have a Fantasy Football-style cabinet, he would be in mine. He might not like his colleagues though grin

Elegran Fri 05-Jul-24 00:18:53

Labour gain Swindon South.

Other people on X are saying the same as me. Reform mirroring the Brexit vote. Some think that this won't hold over all of the UK.

I hope to god that they only come second in my red wall constituency...

Wyllow3 Fri 05-Jul-24 00:21:51

On BBC I player, like the format. Good presenters and I like the political analyst. Leadson and Streeting in the hot seats.

MaizieD Fri 05-Jul-24 00:28:15

Looks as though George Galloway is going to lose his seat...
