Still trying to catch up.

Leicester bucking the trend. Jonathan Ashworth lost his seat. He had a good majority too.

Leicester East turns blue.

It's exciting watching the results come in, even though the end was a foregone conclusion. I'm delighted that Reform have done so well. It was a risk voting for them but they have done much better than expected.

Penny Mordaunt has lost her seat, which is a shame but what she says is true......the Tories went their own way and didn't listen to the people of this country. If Labour want to stay in power, they must be careful not to make the same mistake.

Personally, I think people are going to be bitterly disappointed in Starmer, but it will give the Tories time to re-invent themselves.

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 06:45:24

There were so many surprises, i found.

Poorer areas where the conservatives were voted in, huge differences in the amount of votes, like the lib dems, and the greens.

The greens had around a thousand votes in one place, then would have 18 thousand in another.

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 06:46:47

Jonathan Ashworth lost because of Gaza. He’s a huge loss who loved his constituency. I’m afraid I don’t like the new leader of the Greens. Maybe I’m just sore that she ousted Thangam. Truss nowhere to be seen….

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 06:49:31

Truss has gone!

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 06:50:20

Great!

MayBee70 Fri 05-Jul-24 06:54:55

Oh no. Ch4 talking about people being given a place in the HOL’s in front of Dorries again! ( poor Nad)

Not sure where to begin really.

we now have a boring prime minister who puts public service before self service.

Isn’t it great!!

Bumface Fri 05-Jul-24 07:08:11

I wish I could see the dawning of a new age of equality and prosperity with this Labour government but I don't.

What I do see however is an end of a totally inept, corrupt and morally barren group of over privileged wasters. However, I was sorry to see that Penny Mordaunt lost her seat as she is one of the good ones.

I am very aware of the danger to democracy that the Reform party poses and I think that we must be very wary of them.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 05-Jul-24 07:09:25

I’ve just been catching up. The lettuce has gone. Yippee.

We now have a LibDem MP. It had been Tory since Moses was a boy.

BigBertha1 Fri 05-Jul-24 07:12:41

I am pleased with the result nationally but not locally. I agree with Penny Mordant. The government didn't listen and the have almost broken the NHS. Is it retrievable? Not without radical change.....yet again.

Galaxy Fri 05-Jul-24 07:15:03

Oh I am delighted Penny Mordaunt has lost her seat.

Not really

I just don't get this bizarre jubilation. It's just politics . Nothing much will change.

Some people are behaving like football fans when their team has won.

I think if England wins in Düsseldorf on Saturday, the election results will be completely eclipsed! āš½ļø āš½ļø

So pleased Liz Truss has gone, she was a great deal to blame for the mess the conservatives were in. And she was so ungracious in defeat, making them wait to declare the result as she would not go on stage originally. Then she walked off without speaking. Total opposite from the way Penny Mordaunt handled her defeat. Think Penny Mordaunt is a great loss to the Conservatives.

It’s really nothing like football. I’m a footie fan so I can tell the difference between sport and politics.

Iam64 Fri 05-Jul-24 07:36:17

I’ve just seen a brief clip of Jess Phillips trying to speak after holding on to her marginal seat. She was silenced by a group shouting Shame on You and Free Free Palestine. She said this is the worst election campaign she’s experienced. One if her female activists filmed and followed by a group of men who then slashed the tyres on her car.
Dreadful

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jul-24 07:38:00

That's disgusting.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 05-Jul-24 07:45:51

Jess Philips looked terribly shaken I thought. She just clung on though thank goodness.

What a boring voice Starmer has. Hope his policies are better than his presentation. Budgerigar.

Is that all you can say about him. What about the content of his speech. Was that boring too. If he’s so boring why put yourself through having to listen to him? You don’t have to.

I switched off after 5 minutes of it, don’t worry.

And we got our 4 Green seats..

merlotgran Fri 05-Jul-24 08:08:49

How many seats did Reform get? I know Nigel Farage is now an MP but am wondering if the exit poll prediction for them was exaggerated.

Galaxy Fri 05-Jul-24 08:10:56

Yes it was they got 4 seats. However they came second in 98 seats.

Galaxy Fri 05-Jul-24 08:13:14

Actually I hope I have just given accurate information grin. Those are the figures I am seeing being bandied about.
