Why do some Scottish people dislike England so much

The majority of scots on the thread have decried the headline and said it is not the majority view of Scots, yet there are a few from other nations who have been thoroughly unpleasant about us as a nation. I think it's very sad to be so divisive.

I totally agree with you there, Grandmabatty. I genuinely don't know any fellow Scots who hold views remotely like that.

I don't either - I have Scots relatives - one set considering independence, the other not, but deplore this kind of headline as its hate mongering of the worst kind.

I’m sorry you’ve had that experience, Marydoll. My Yorkshire friends would say that ‘Dalesfolk are a law unto themselves!’.

Of course it’s just a minority but it still taints the air. We never came across it when we first moved to Scotland in the 70’s but it’s ramped up over the years and to be honest, I no longer feel at home in Scotland.

I'm sorry you feel that way, SueDonim. I don't know what part of Scotland you live in, but I've never heard anyone else say they feel that way - and I'm talking about people who have come to live in my part of the country from all over the world.

Maybe not a majority but a large minority don’t want to be part of the UK, they have considerable autonomy, that is not enough. If there is ever another independence referendum, let it be full independence, a separate nation.
I fully support self determination, I have no idea wether they would be better or worse off but I dont think the rest of the UK would suffer.

Maybe because we feel we are second class citizens comapred to England . When did you ever hear King Charles referred to as King of Scotland but all the time he is king of Scotland . I was in the Bowes Museum and saw a display case of items from WW1 . A union flag was called the flag of England . I contacted the museum afterwards I was so angry . The queen mother lost one of her brothers , Fergus , in the war and he was Scottish and the museum was part of the Bowes Lyon properties at one time .
Despite there being a Scottish parliament with some authority the bulk of our life is ruled by English MPs. I am sure the Welsh and Irish feel the same .

It not personal to any Scot but having a “nationalist” government gives me the impression that they dislike English.
A majority has voted for the SNP in recent times, why vote for nationalists if you don’t believe in it, Sturgeon ranting on reinforced that.

That's quite the assumption. Wanting your country to be independent does not mean hating your neighbours.

The Scottish "Nationalist" government only governed from 2021 because of a coalition with The Green Party. Since that disintegrated earlier this year they have governed as a minority government, the SNP Westminster MPs took a hammering in the GE resulting in a massive swing to Labour. Interesting times.

You have the wrong impression David Reasons for voting SNP are many and varied and now that Labour is in the ascendancy in Scotland you may want to review your opinion.
Wales and N Ireland are also part of the UK and "Scotland" doesn't hate those countries either.

The UK as a whole voted to leave the EU and go it alone. Does that mean that all Britons dislike everyone whose country is part of that EU?

But you didn't vote as Scotland, wether you like it or not we voted as a whole nation, not separate identities.

Nevertheless the overwhelming result from Scotland as a distinct country was to stay in the EU, at odds with England. At the time, I said this would fuel independence votes which it did do. The UK isn't a nation as such but a collection of nations in a union. This isn't a plea for Scottish independence. I wasn't in favour at the time.

The Scots had sense in that respect! Pity there were not more of them to sway the vote.

I voted remain, ofcourse, but I wanted reform of the EU which seemed unwealdy and too big and distant.

Sorry that's going off topic but I am in Scotland and don't hate the English which is lucky because I was born there, my DS and his lovely family live there.

We are a small island despite our large population. Scotland feels a lot less crowded than England. apart from Edinburgh with all its tourists
I feel privileged to live here.
