Good.
The man had some brass neck didn’t he?

LadyGracie Tue 16-Jul-24 12:26:10

Great news, such an arrogant man!

Urmstongran Tue 16-Jul-24 13:55:36

Apparently he resigned after a handful of his top team quit and effectively forced his hand.

Poppyred Tue 16-Jul-24 14:00:11

Good riddance…..

JamesandJon33 Tue 16-Jul-24 14:17:37

Hoo bl**dy ray .

Urmstongran Tue 16-Jul-24 15:38:08

What do our Welsh grans think?

JamesandJon33 Tue 16-Jul-24 15:42:11

I am a Welsh gran

I thought he did reasonably well during covid, but I think the idea of being the first black First Minister of Wales rather went to his head. An arrogant man .

Anniebach Tue 16-Jul-24 15:48:44

Jeremy Miles who stood for the leadership is one of the four who resigned.

Pantglas2 Tue 16-Jul-24 15:50:49

He thought he was untouchable, refusing to acknowledge the poor optics on his decision to accept funds from a dodgy source.

He compounded it by refusing to produce evidence of his justification in sacking Blythyn.

Arrogant IMO.

Casdon Tue 16-Jul-24 16:15:57

This is kind of no news news, in Wales, I don’t know anybody who doesn’t think he should have gone well before now.

Urmstongran Tue 16-Jul-24 16:17:45

True Casdon I’m sure. I think I was just surprised HE didn’t feel that way!

Casdon Tue 16-Jul-24 16:20:05

As Pantglas said, he was arrogant.

He broke Covid rules too, not in the same way that those at Westminster did but nonetheless if you're the one to make the rules, and they were very strict here, you must be seen to be adhering to them.

Obviously, they have little faith in him at the Senedd.

So who now?

JamesandJon33 Tue 16-Jul-24 18:25:01

No idea. Any suggestions ?

Casdon Tue 16-Jul-24 18:36:01

I expect it will be Jeremy Miles. He was the choice of the Senedd last time, but Vaughan Gething was elected because of the union votes. From memory I think there was less than 5% of votes between them. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is unopposed.

JamesandJon33 Wed 17-Jul-24 10:37:36

So there is talk of a witch hunt. I think not.

Anniebach Wed 17-Jul-24 10:45:22

Unfortunately one of the four who resigned ,Jeremy Miles,
stood for leadership with Vaughan Gething

Pantglas2 Wed 17-Jul-24 10:49:01

I agree JamesandJon33.

Jeremy Miles mentioned his pride that Gething as a black man and he, as a gay man, were able to stand as candidates to lead the nation.

The suggestion, from any corner, that racism was involved suggests unaccountability for all actions and that can’t be condoned - they have to be held to account, Gething simply refused to acknowledge that.

Casdon Wed 17-Jul-24 12:53:42

The ministers who resigned were not fresh faced young usurpers, they are all experienced and loyal MS, who have worked with Vaughan Gething for a long time. I can’t imagine this was a decision they took lightly or one that was driven by racial prejudice.

JamesandJon33 Wed 17-Jul-24 12:59:17

There was a woman from Cardiff interviewed last evening.I failed to catch her name. She was insistent that racism was the cause.

Casdon Wed 17-Jul-24 13:14:25

I think the race card being played is inevitable in the circumstances, but that doesn’t mean it was the case.

Anniebach Wed 17-Jul-24 13:30:17

I certainly do not believe racism is at play

JamesandJon33 Wed 17-Jul-24 14:40:55

Neither do I. It’s a pity that is often resorted to.

Jeremy Miles mentioned his pride that Gething as a black man and he, as a gay man were able to stand as candidates to lead the nation.

It should be nothing to do with being gay or black. It should be only about who is the best person for the job.

My son has done extremely well in his career as a barrister. He has not done well because he is gay, but because he has worked hard to be successful.

Anniebach Wed 17-Jul-24 14:52:29

Agree Maddy
