........but it would have been more impressive if "Our God" had prevented the assassination attempt in the first place.

Just where was he when the would-be assassin pulled the trigger?

Clawdy Tue 16-Jul-24 12:22:48

And "Our God" didn't save the man who died protecting his family.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Jul-24 12:32:15

Yes: the Telegraph reported

"“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” he [Trump] said."

What delusions of grandeur the man has - what about Corey Comperatore and those injured!

He just doesn't seem to get that be saying God saved him he's also saying that God chose not to save the man who died trying to protect his family.

MiniMoon Tue 16-Jul-24 12:47:18

Donald Trump cares for no-one but himself. He's said before that he doesn't care about the people he just wants their vote. President Biden rang Mrs Comperatore to offer his condolences but Trump hasn't.

Trump’s relief must be huge. I can understand his relief it must be immense.

I cannot believe he won’t have contacted the widow (? source)and the family of the man who lost his life in the shooting. In fact I’d go as far as to say that family will be well supported by DT.

HousePlantQueen Tue 16-Jul-24 13:05:55

Anyone else notice that his two self serving sons were at his side, but Melania is nowhere to be seen?

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:10:08

To go to source:
the widow said:

She said the former president has not reached out — but Biden’s call wasn’t welcome

The randomness in life eh? Trump relieved and yet another family who were sitting just behind Trump are devastated today.

Funny old God that saves Trump but allows babies to die.

LizzieDrip Tue 16-Jul-24 13:19:22

Thanks for the source Wyllow. It’s a shame the widow felt she couldn’t speak with Biden, but at least he contacted her - which is more than Trump did.

A very sad situation.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:22:19

The article adds, “I don’t have any ill will towards Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people that gets involved in politics.

“I support Trump. That’s who I’m voting for, but I don’t have ill will towards Biden,” she added. “He didn’t do anything bad to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”

Joseann Tue 16-Jul-24 13:26:47

I think Trump worded that poorly.
I think the widow wouldn't talk to Biden because her husband was a Republican.
I think Melania is well off put of the picture, as was Victoria Starmer. I wish Mrs. Biden would do the same, as did Mrs. Sunak.

Joseann Tue 16-Jul-24 13:27:40

* out of the picture

Farzanah Tue 16-Jul-24 13:32:08

Funny how God chose to intervene to save one individual but not to save thousands of those, arguably more deserving, including children in war zones.

I don’t think I’d like such a God (if I ever meet him/her/it).

LizzieDrip Tue 16-Jul-24 13:33:12

Yes, that is the case Josesnn. In the article the widow is quoted as saying that her husband was a staunch republican and he would not have wanted her to speak to Jo Biden.

LizzieDrip Tue 16-Jul-24 13:37:30

Farzanah I don’t think I’d like such a God either. As an Atheist, I’m not likely to be meeting him/her/it.

Of course, I do respect others’ right to believe in a God … it’s just not for me.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:40:47

Yes, very understandable she wouldn't want to talk to Biden.

As regards Trumps' words

sorry to keep on about it - but I truly believe its dangerous when a leader claims "God on my side"

but not surprising is it Willow? He's completely delusional and dangerous..

Joseann Tue 16-Jul-24 13:56:48

sorry to keep on about it - but I truly believe it's dangerous when a leader claims, God on my side.
I am reminded of Cromwell's famous words,
It's an odd thing, Mr. Ireton. Every man who wages war believes God is on his side. I'll warrant God should often wonder who is on his.

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:58:54

Even more deluded and dangerous now.

Jewelle Tue 16-Jul-24 14:26:32

I don't believe for one second that Trump believes in god or that god saved him. I think he just says he does because his followers tend to be fully paid up members of the god squad.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Jul-24 14:30:09

To be fair, there are many differences in Christian beliefs in the USA - its a certain right wing evangelical tendency we're seeing here, but a very strong one in parts of the USA.

Anyone else notice that his two self serving sons were at his side, but Melania is nowhere to be seen?

They issued a statement from her which, imo was not written by her.

MayBee70 Tue 16-Jul-24 14:31:49

There’s something evangelical about these Trump rallies. They remind me of Billy Graham back in the day.

Callistemon213 Tue 16-Jul-24 14:34:48

Clawdy

And "Our God" didn't save the man who died protecting his family.

And he claims Biden has lost the plot!!

Trump never found it in the first place.
