Apparently both Nigel Farage and Richard Tice gave pretty good maiden speeches in the HoC
Yes I've listened to both of them. I think Richard Tice will prove to be a fantastic MP for Boston and Skegness I know that area well.
You know. the Clacton MP who should be showing up for the job he is paid to do.
In the USA apparently paying court to King Trump.
Clacton were sold a pup weren’t they?

I’m sure he’s used to revolting comments from vicious people, but as comments online can provoke actual physical attacks, they need to be taken seriously and not just laughed at or shrugged off.

No that isn’t libel.
If that poster had said that Is like Hitler or similar that would have been libel imo.
But the poster merely comparing the fact that Farage wanting women to have more babies was similar to the Lebensborn e.V is not libellous.

It would have been more circumspect to refer to the political and economic climate that existed at the time of Hitler's rise to power, rather than making a comparison with the man himself.
Because that is, really, the relevance.
Wyllow3
Thank you for the information, Merion.
You are welcome, Wyllow. I just thought I'd point it out because for whatever Farage and the party (over which we know he has total control) say in the media - they, as a block of five MPs, made a decision yesterday NOT to vote for an amendment to the King's Speech aimed at alleviating child poverty. However performative it was on the part of SNP's Stephen Flynn, Reform had nothing to lose in voting Aye ... but they didn't and that should worry people.
Dickens I don’t think you have been offensive, I think I am being over sensitive .
Thank you to everyone who has been kind to me. You are all lovely.
I will leave this thread now and stay away from politics 😂 I might even be forced to clean my kitchen!

Oh no JaneJudge, not the dreaded kitchen cleaning
Like Dickens I often come on GN to distract myself from personal issues. I have two really big difficulties going on in my life right now, with no hope of resolution for a while.
But on the other hand I’m looking forward to my Golden Wedding celebrations in August so that’s something good in my life.
As regards Farage, I regard him as an irrelevance.
The thing to remember is that it's not - generally speaking - personal. You can disagree quite vehemently with someone on one topic, and equally enthusiastically agree with them on another
Exactly this Dickens. I find this often happens with me. Happily.
Freya5 There are more people in this country who I feel are more dangerous than the likes of Farage, who at least is loyal to this country. One has been jailed for life recently, Anjem Choudhary.
Choudary is a key figure because he spreads these hateful teachings, but there are thousands who feel the same, influenced by him. Already they are looking for his replacement. And people are getting worked up about Farage!
“Imagine the shock for Mr Farage when he finds out a study by Durham University has found a primary factor in the sky rocketing number of small boat crossings was the failure to secure a post-Brexit returns arrangement with the EU”
Farage - in his maiden speech tried to suggest that leaving the EHCR was the way forward.
Kandinsky
^*Farage wants Britons to have more children^
So did Hitler, in Germany*
Surely this comment is libel?
Hopefully it will get sent to Nigel Farage for him to decide.
Disgusting comment.
Why is it libel? It's a simple factual comment.
So if someone said to me….
‘My partner likes to lay a patio’
And my reply was …
‘So did Fred West’
I’d be implying the partner was as dodgy as they come.
It’s what’s being implied. Doesn’t matter if it’s a fact.
It might be a good idea if the poster who made the original comment came back to explain what he/ she meant?
Do they think Farage is as dangerous as Hitler? if not, why mention Hitler at all?
Well clearly Farage is not as dangerous as Hitler. To be honest, as soon as Hitler is brought into the argument, the argument is lost.
People are free to like Farage, and they are also free to dislike him. I expect him to be a thorn in the side of the government, just as he would be with any government, but that’s as far as it goes. He’s really an irrelevance in the greater scheme of things.

He’s really an irrelevance in the greater scheme of things.
Not sure about that.
He's attracted quite a considerable amount of support in a short campaign.
It's the effect he might have on the Tory party that is relevant I think. He's more of a threat to them than Labour so it might well affect their future strategy and thinking when re-establishing themselves in Opposition as they are aware they have lost votes to him, so could possibly become more right-wing in order to defeat him.

Plus ça change - wow!
Farage may be many things but he is certainly not a Hitler. The only similarity there is that he is a good public speaker but then, so was Churchill. I think in his own way he is deeply patriotic, as is Trump. Note, ‘in his own way ‘!
Farage has until August 4th to declare his income from outwith Parliament. I look forward to this, and the fact checking that follows.
I know we have some accountants on here…

I’m sure Farages lying referendum poster had repercussions, too.

And I'm sure they will check all the other 649 MPs too, because we wouldn't want to discriminate would we? That is something that is frowned upon by all good people.
All MPs have to register their interests within 28 days of the new parliament opening. Here’s how to check the interactive database.

I’ve no idea what you would want, and I’ve no idea what others will do, but I’m perfectly content to be discriminating (which isn’t the same as discriminatory) about Farage’s finances because he’s a grifter.
But in the interests of equity, if you can point me at any other MPs who are the only ‘person with significant control’ of a private company which was used to solicit donations to pay for their election campaigns, I’m happy to look at those too.
I need to say: I’m not an accountant, although I do have professional experience of analysing financial information.
Siope - a good offer there. I’m not an accountant, I managed excellent in my book keeping exam in 1965 and can manage my own finances but that’s as far as my skill goes. Even I can understand that Mr Farage is financially interesting
Iam64
I didn’t even do book keeping and just managed a rather poor pass in maths at sixteen. Maths is definitely not my subject, so I won’t get involved in analysing anyone’s finances.
Maddy I’m not sure we need to worry about analysing anyone’s finances except our own. We can trust the process. Every mp has to register their interests within 28 days.
Registering is free, easy, and means you can join the discussion, watch threads and lots more.
