I didn’t even do book keeping and just managed a rather poor pass in maths at sixteen. Maths is definitely not my subject, so I won’t get involved in analysing anyone’s finances.
I’ve trained a lot of people in ‘understanding accounts’ and I always start by saying that it’s not maths. If you can do basic reckoning (the third R!) you can understand accounts.
Thanks Siope, my son did his accountancy exams after university, but he used it to progress in his career, and is now a Financial Director. He did A level maths, and so did my daughter, and our other son did one of those half A levels, I forget what they’re called, but I always put any success in maths down to my husband. I guess I can do basic reckoning, but I’m too old to learn anything new in mathematics now.
