Well well.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Jul-24 20:34:52

Yes, I was really pleased.

All eyes on choosing a VP candidate.

Fleurpepper Fri 26-Jul-24 20:38:07

Farage's comments on Kamala Harris were vile, and lies.

And her parents are both professors, at Berkeley and Stanford.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:42:47

You mean his snide and bitter comments "the democrats won't get rid of a Black African Women", or has he said more?

Macadia Fri 26-Jul-24 22:00:26

On Express news, they quote Farage as saying, "“I think we should just judge people for who they are. Surely we should just pick people on ability?”

So doesn't that mean he contradicts his own principles and opinions by saying she can't be a president because her laugh is unattractive? (Unattractive to who?) He seems unstable if he doesn't even know his own views and based on what I have read about him, he sounds like he is still stuck living in the 1950s.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Jul-24 22:19:40

I checked out whole quote

The whole identity politics, that everyone must be divided up into different groups according to sexual preference or race, I’m not interested in any of that,” said Mr Farage

I think we should just judge people for who they are. Surely we should just pick people on ability

So having insulted Kamala though complete ignorance (Black African woman)

He now has consigned the struggles of people of colour and women of years and years - still very much on going - to

"oh its an identity thing".

Ignorant man (white, male, wanna be elitist)

This indeed- racist, ignorant, mysoginist, and more. Kamala is NOT African at all anyhow.

Harris is now ahead in the polls which is cheering.

The most important though are the 4-5 swing states - not sure how she is holding up in those?

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 27-Jul-24 07:10:02

If Kamala Harris wins in November, which I pray she does, I’m afraid that trump and his little friends will insist the election was stolen, just like he did last time. It seems they are already planning for this by swearing the polls are wrong etc.

WWM

Here is the Emerson College polling re the swing states as of Thursday:

emersoncollegepolling.com/july-2024-swing-state-polls-harris-trails-trump-in-arizona-georgia-michigan-pennsylvania-tied-in-wisconsin/

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Jul-24 07:18:49

Just 4 points between them now in Arizona and less than that in the others.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-24 07:46:46

Thanks for that.

The swing states are really the only ones that we need to look at.

She gets those, she’s won.

So🤞🤞🤞🤞

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Jul-24 09:08:52

Yes. If you look at it there are 7% who are undecided- those are the ones to win over.
🤞

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Jul-24 09:20:00

The trouble is that the main issues are not the same state to state.
Arizona is very much immigration where for the rest it's the economy.

Galaxy Sat 27-Jul-24 09:27:17

Identity politics are divisive though, presumably if Farage can be dismissed as his views are those of a white man then Bidens views can also be dismissed.

Wyllow3 Sat 27-Jul-24 10:22:56

My reflections are that there are many white males who back the interests of women and minorities without labelling them as marginal.

But there are reasons why more women vote democrat and the problem discussed above was that Farage has tried to normalise these interests as marginal, to dismiss, whereas they are central to peoples' lives.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-24 10:37:16

Just listening to TRIP.

So they reckon that Harris who is from California, has the same problem as Starmer - so for California think Islington.

She will struggle to get the red neck vote.

Fleurpepper, Kamala’s father is of Jamaican heritage. Surely that means African slave heritage? To stress, that’s no problem for me

Galaxy Sat 27-Jul-24 10:39:45

Well yes it's not their colour then is it, it's their views. I loathe identity politics, and I can claim the identity of being a woman smile

Iam64 Sat 27-Jul-24 10:42:37

Yes Kamala is far too liberal for Trump and Vice. Her other problem for them is she’s an intelligent successful woman.

He describes himself as Jamaican American. so yes, hundreds of years back...

Well, she also has Asian heritage.

So why didn’t Farage say a black Asian woman?

We know exactly why. It is right out of Bannon’s mouth snd is the play into racism.

Wyllow3 Sat 27-Jul-24 12:04:25

A point surely is, she is an American. An American of mixed heritage/race, which many Americans are - Irish American, German American. So for example some Americans choose to use the term, Afro-American.
To say "Black African Women" implies she is black and directly from Africa, this generation.

So as well as being totally ignorant of her actual heritage, it implies "Not American" or "Unamerican".

Obama faced the same issues - claims were made he didnt have US citizenship - lots of SM conspiracy theories eventually proved wrong (but still helped dear in the ends of conspiracists)

Exactly so, and there are already whispers emanating from the right wing that are questioning her citizenship, which as far as I am concerned has white privilege and racism written all over it.

I just heard Jon Stewart say that if Republicans think the Democrats cheated by swapping an old man for a younger candidate in the middle of their campaign, the Democrats can make this fair by allowing the Republicans to swap out their old man for a younger candidate - just to keep this competition fair. grin Good idea!

Old white men, the 'beige colour group' raised 4million in a short zoom call. Interesting groups are coming together for Harris.
