There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

marvellous isn't it.. she's really showing what she will be capable of achieving

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Jul-24 19:57:54

👍

tictacnana Tue 23-Jul-24 21:01:09

Good luck to her… to ANYONE opposing Trump.

Cavery Tue 23-Jul-24 21:28:06

Right. 😂 She only had one job as VP and that was to over see the border. Well, we all know how that turned out.

Iam64 Tue 23-Jul-24 21:46:31

Seriously - stop the boats/build the wall- all these totally nonsensical three word slogans
.
She also didn’t only have one job

It’s not difficult to accept borders into relatively safe successful countries are being breached by people who see how much we have and want some. What is difficult is finding effective solutions that don’t breach people’s human rights

The USA is so different to the UK. I’ve just been updating myself on CNN, this is one of the headlines, related to the election. I can’t make sense of it.

It’s interesting thanks for the link.
We can all wear brat green this Summer just as we ( didn’t ) wear Barbie pink last Summer.😂
Saying Kamala is brat is complimenting her for being a strong and confident feminist not trying too hard and comfortable in her own skin.

Thanks Oreo, I get it a bit better now, it’s akin to a flag you wave to support your side. Must get a brat green something.

😁I will have to give it a miss as chartreuse is def not my colour tho it does stand out in a crowd.

Casdon Tue 23-Jul-24 22:10:21

I was thinking more along the lines of one of those little ribbons you wear on your lapel, not my colour either, but I could run to a ribbon.

Came across a bizarre anti Harris (anti women?) statement by JD Vance

"Clip resurfaces of Vance criticizing Harris for being 'childless,' testing Trump's new running mate

Comments Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance made in 2021 questioning Vice President Kamala Harris’ leadership because she did not have biological children have resurfaced"

"During Vance's bid for the Senate from Ohio, he said in a Fox News interview that “

we are effectively run in this country via the Democrats," and referred to them as "a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too." He said that included Harris, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat

Remember when Teresa May was targeted for not having children - it’s the politics of the gutter, it really is. Can you imagine anybody even passing comment about a male politician not having children?

Hear hear

Can you imagine the vitriol and condemnation if, like Trump, KH had 5 children from 3 different marriages?

maddyone Tue 23-Jul-24 23:25:04

I’ve seen her a few times now on television, just little clips of her, but I think she seems very capable and would most likely make a very good President.
I hope she wins.

maddyone Tue 23-Jul-24 23:27:53

Additionally I think the fact that she has no children is irrelevant (and who knows if there is heartache behind the no children, but it may well be her choice, and fair enough) as is whether or not she is married. I think she is, but it’s irrelevant.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jul-24 00:13:29

I had a nose around as I had a memory of stepchildren.
found out - she has 2 stepchildren since 2014

people.com/all-about-kamala-harris-stepchildren-8681626

but they aren't "biological" children, see....

Rosie51 Wed 24-Jul-24 00:50:19

Does it matter that KH doesn't have biological children? Of course not, it's a ridiculous premise. I do remember Edward Heath came under speculation because he had never married. Have we not progressed and grown up since then? I do wonder if the USA is ready to break that final barrier of electing a woman to lead them? Time will tell.

Whatever you think of the Conservative party in the UK they have had women and an Asian man as leaders. Might be their only saving grace, but a saving grace none the less.

Macadia Wed 24-Jul-24 03:10:43

I think what matters is what they stand for and bashing a candidate personally is not necessary. I also see different news sources tell the same story in very different ways in order to favor one candidate or another. We are all guilty of this childish banter and the media feeds the fire. It's time to get more serious about this job so that the young children in our world can see what grown-ups should act like.

This is what you need Macadia Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter:

Well at least he was married, and supports children from those marriages. More than some men do. Just saying.

Anyone watching Harris

Blimey

Trump has a problem!!

Powerful orator…can’t wait for her debate with DT … my SIL and niece in California are beyond ecstatic considering how the polls looked prior to JB stepping down at weekend 😁

NotSpaghetti Wed 24-Jul-24 10:03:33

My son wants Mark Kelly ftom Arizona to be her "running mate".

nanna8 Wed 24-Jul-24 10:03:35

Fingers, toes and legs all crossed she will give Trump a run for his money! I feel a heck of a lot more optimistic now , after being resigned to an America under Trump’s leadership. Phew. Whoever wins, at least it will be a proper contest.

NotSpaghetti Wed 24-Jul-24 10:04:35

I watched her Wisconsin speech last night Bea65 - are you looking at that?

Bea65 Wed 24-Jul-24 10:31:01

(Notspaghetti)Yes I watched..wish I could vote for her - she really engaged the crowd - understood her plain but effective speech- very charismatic too .. MARK KELLY would be a good fit being a former astronaut has recognition in his own namesake 👌

Attempts to impeach Kamala Harris have been filed by Republicans on the attack

'Rep.Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a resolution calling to impeach Harris for high crimes and misdemeanors, arguing that during her term as vice president, Harris “has demonstrated extraordinary incompetence in the execution of her duties and responsibilities.”

Specifically, Ogles claims Harris has exhibited a “stark refusal to uphold the existing immigration laws” and a “palpable indifference to people of the United States suffering as a result of the ongoing southern border crisis.”"
