There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

^Can’t possibly have a re-run of the rioting last time.^

But how to stop it if he doesn't win, Oreo?

I can guarantee you there would be a plan after what happened on January 6 th. That any protests will be far away from the White House and the Capitol.

Oreo Tue 23-Jul-24 16:32:35

Agreed, the authorities will def have a plan in place for this now.

The other issue I think is that two days ago the American voter was faced with the choice between to old candidates, and many were not prepared to turn out to vote. This is definitely a game changer.

Yes, we now have an elderly candidate called Trump.

.....who recently couldn't recall (twice) that Obama was no longer president, confused the leaders of Turkey and Hungary, warned that the world was headed for a second — not third — world war, the statement re 1917 flu ending WW2) and called Hannibal Lecter (who he seemed to think was real) a "wonderful man."

On a par with Biden then , remember the president of Ukraine was called "Putin", and over the years has been the premier gaffe meister, of the whitehouse. including racism and misogyny, and snide asides against voters.
Just saying. See NYP Jo Bidens worst gaffes, and that was only until 2023.
So neither Trump nor Biden above reproach.
Hope Harris gets in, be good to see the President of America, a woman, will she be be beyond reproach?. Will she be friendly towards the UK. Interesting times. Much more so than our elections.

There is an old old adage or saying: "What goes around comes around" !

DT is very afraid of Kamala. This is why his plan is to discredit her and speak disgraceful lies about her on his " X " Twitter Pages.

Kamala is going to support: Women´s rights, Abortion, The Palestinians starving and being denied medical care, Dignified Employment & education regardless of one´s race or theological beliefs and she is polling extremely well.

Also according to The Guardian, Kamala and Robert F. Kennedy are doing better than Trump !!

Going back to posts a couple of pages ago

All to do with Ohio which Rory Stewart was explaining in the latest TRIP. More here from NBC News. This piece predates Biden’s withdrawal but explains the dilemma and why Harris’s nomination needs to be be seen to be legitimate

www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/democrats-virtual-nomination-biden-ohio-ballot-rcna154339

I asked a friend who is a Democrat party former staffer about this, and voting for a nominee generally. I have a very detailed and interesting answer about who national delegates are and how they elect a Democrat nominee (which is different to how I thought it worked) if anyone wants to know.

This, much simpler, on Ohio:

‘Ohio....
Each State determines who is on its ballot. It is not nationally determined. There are all sorts of hoops ~ winning the primary, collecting signatures of registered voters... Most States election laws are such that the winner of the National Convention is on the General Election Ballot in November. Not Ohio. It has some weird laws about dates/days prior to the election ~ August 7th this year. I think she has to have the majority of National delegates behind her to make the ballot. If Harris does not meet those criteria her name will NOT be on the ballot. Voters will have to write her name in and Trump's will be on the ballot.’

Simpler still:

‘Ohio is a pain in the ass.’

There will be a virtual vote before August 7th, apparently.

Urmstongran you really are a lone voice in the wilderness here, and I agree with everything you say. Do we really want a President who can dance and laugh constantly? I don’t think so. She has done nothing here as far as I can see, and we have yet to hear what her policies are.

excellent news..

I have not read the whole thread, but want to add two thoughts. First, Trump is in a special category as far as many or most of his followers are concerned. He 'can do no wrong' - he himself said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and his followers would still follow him. He is a cult figure. Second, if I had the vote in America, I'd vote for almost anyone instead of Trump, and I guess there are people there who do have the vote, who ae not cult followers and who feel the same. I hope so.

The USA is so different to the UK. I’ve just been updating myself on CNN, this is one of the headlines, related to the election. I can’t make sense of it.

It’s interesting thanks for the link.
We can all wear brat green this Summer just as we ( didn’t ) wear Barbie pink last Summer.😂
Saying Kamala is brat is complimenting her for being a strong and confident feminist not trying too hard and comfortable in her own skin.

Anyone else heard of Project 2025? I just heard it mentioned today on the radio. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025#:~:text=The%20Project%20asserts%20that%20the,willing%20to%20enable%20Trump's%20policies.

keepingquiet Tue 23-Jul-24 18:27:24

I just heard of Project25 today too. We should be worried, but also hopeful that the American people realise things can be different and vote for the grown-up.

J52 Tue 23-Jul-24 18:35:10

I’ve just scan read the article Farmor15 thanks for posting it.
Should Trump get elected, I fear that there will be a lot of civil unrest in the USA.

Yes BRAT GREEN … we call them highlighters.. meant to stand out as a compliment

Grandmabatty Tue 23-Jul-24 18:48:41

I mentioned project 25 on another thread I think. I really hope Kamala Harris is successful and I am pretty disgusted at the posters who tried to use her previous personal life against her. She's a strong, capable woman who was a determined lawyer. Apparently Trump has said he won't debate with her. That says to me that he knows she would eviscerate him

Project 25, (which Donald Trump says he knows nothing about!) is the core policy statement of the MAGA republicans.

It is utterly terrifying.

Thank you for the video in this clip. Harris strong, with humour, and the supportive voices, very heartening.

For a contrast, Harris 5 months ago at Munich conference, serious in full VP mode - dip in and out, its long) its about the US being involved in world affairs, (as opposed to an isolationist approach) particularly on sharing helping Ukraine.

As far as I can see, most successful politicians including of course Trump himself use humour/laughter/with some criticism implied as part of life at a rally.

(Yes Project 25 was described/discussed in detail over on another thread, the "Biden to stand down" last few pages. All major institutions subject to political presidential appointees (no independent civil service, FBI, departments of Education and many more.)

Bea65 Tue 23-Jul-24 19:34:46

I sincerely hope the Secret Service team around Kamala Harris is experienced and on high alert for her first appearance in Wisconsin 🤞🤞

Anyone watching Harris

Blimey

Trump has a problem!!
