I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

Couldn’t agree more, it’s despicable behaviour based on no evidence that can attribute this tragedy to any religious or ethnic group. Shame on the hot heads who feel they are entitled to behave in this way. The grieving families the community and the police deserve better. EDL a dangerous group of psychos looking for any excuse to vent their hate.
My heartfelt condolences to all victims touched by this situation.

I wish they were all young men, then it could be put down to a mob mentality on a hot summers day, but from the pictures I saw they weren’t. Particularly at the London march/protest the following day, there were many older men there, and some were arrested for fighting the police. I’d imagine a lot of them have their own families, it’s impossible to fathom their rationale.

They don’t have a rationale. There are people are stirring all this up on social media, these idiots are just their puppets.

They have no business even being in the area. Film them, arrest them, jail them, make them at their own expense repair what is practical and fine them towards the damge they can't fix. Take them to Church, Mosque and Temple - they might learn something. (Sorry, just appalled at what violent men get away with).

I wish they could jail the ringleaders when they catch them. There is no space in the jails though, which enables them to continue without that threat - and they can currently also escape the country altogether too.

DeeDe Fri 02-Aug-24 11:19:40

They don’t want jobs, just to drink and riot
Total trouble making losers .. Hit them with water cannons with dye in …

DeeDe Fri 02-Aug-24 11:15:55

You can email prime minister ( google it)
Imo They need to use Water Cannons on these yobs, perhaps put a dye in the water that sticks to skin, give three warnings for bystanders etc to leave, then let them have it
They won’t like returning home and everyone knowing who and what they are, violent, racist losers …they need to be wiped out!! Their doing our country more harm than anyone
Not to mention Those poor parents in Southport and all involved did not need that, … 🙁

I hate violence- but we could label all riots and protesters and thugs, look back over the last few months at all protests and riots the violence has always been the same, no different

Galaxy Fri 02-Aug-24 10:35:12

That is of no surprise, there are many many problems in Hartlepool I am afraid.

Callistemon213 Fri 02-Aug-24 10:34:31

Perhaps they look young to nanna8 and me.

Callistemon213 Fri 02-Aug-24 10:33:51

DH has just told me that one arrested today on suspicion of arson in Hartlepool is 11 .

Don’t these young blokes have jobs to go to? I saw some footage of the riot up in Southport. Nearly all young men under 30 - what, exactly, are they crapping on about ? Do they even know, or is it some sort of weird social event? Those poor parents who have lost children, it must be very, very upsetting for them.

At least 19 more so called rallies by far right groups are planned for the coming days.

These are intended to take place outside mosques and asylum seekers hostels.

It must be incredibly difficult for the police trying to contain these groups, and I very much hope a plan is soon put into place that deals with these groups.

Guardian report

A “national capability” will be established to tackle violent disorder and rioters, Keir Starmer has announced, as he warned social media firms they had a responsibility to clamp down on misinformation.
Speaking after violent disorder followed the Southport stabbing attack, the prime minister said the initiative would “pull together” intelligence and action across the country’s police forces. This would range from “the immediate challenge, which is clearly driven by far-right hatred” and “all violent disorder” that flares, regardless of motivation.

The “national capability” will aim to improve intelligence gathering and sharing on “extremist troublemakers” after police were surprised by the scale of disorder on Tuesday in Southport, with further unrest in London, Manchester, Hartlepool and Aldershot on Wednesday night.
The new initiative should identify agitators from all parts of the ideological spectrum, while enhancing the sharing of community tension indicators and the coordination of mutual aid, where specially riot-trained officers are rushed from one area to another”

I do know that the intelligent agencies are also heavily involved in trying to stop this behaviour.

I have no words to describe my disgust for those people wearing tee shirts with images of the murdered children.
What must their parents think? I hope they don’t see them.

growstuff Thu 01-Aug-24 23:03:05

Hopefully, enough people can see through their tactics and they backfire on them.

The rioting in Leeds comes to my mind.
I totally think some communities experience 2nd tier policing. That’s what pisses people off.

In Southport, it wasn't "community rioting". It was alleged and seems to be confirmed from the addresses of those arrested that the thugs were imported. It pisses off the people who travel quite long distances to have a scrap and then portray themselves as victims. It wasn't community rioting in London or Hartlepool either.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-24 22:08:22

French police are armed.

We police very differently in this country.

The two situations are very different and can’t possibly be compared.

The mob in London was demanding Farage as prime minister and Robinson for Home Secretary.

Farage is undoubtedly stirring over social media which has been utterly irresponsible and condemned universally, for undermining the police, who job is difficult enough as it is without a member of the House of Commons criticising them.

The groups we watched are beginning to see themselves as agents of violence snd have imo crossed the line between a protest group and one of violence. They rioted in 3 areas. I think they therefore need banning and should be prosecuted under riot.

The good thing is that these extreme right groups are tiny in number, and on the whole they are not tolerated by the public at large, so swift action by the courts without sensationalising by Farage or his cronies, is the way to go.

I can't believe that t-shirt, how awful sad

MayBee70 Thu 01-Aug-24 21:51:50

But they didn’t work!

Urmstongran Thu 01-Aug-24 21:43:04

^At least he didn’t get tough like Boris Johnson did…
‘Three unusable water cannon bought by Boris Johnson when he was mayor of London have been sold for scrap, at a net loss of more than £300,000^

And yet, they’d have been brilliant at dispersing rioters. French police use them with impunity and no outrage. So, why us? Why do we always hold back?

"Why is he not clamping down on ALL thugs, but just white British ones it seems."

Where does he say or imply he's only doing that? Of course it's across the board. It's just that these are the most recent and as I said above the critical trigger point.

So Starmer announces he is going to get tough on rioters.

How come he didn’t get tough on the Romanian community in Leeds recently who were burning cars, turning over ambulances, throwing rocks etc?

At least he didn’t get tough like Boris Johnson did…
‘Three unusable water cannon bought by Boris Johnson when he was mayor of London have been sold for scrap, at a net loss of more than £300,000.

Johnson bought the crowd-control vehicles from the German police in 2014, in anticipation of social unrest, without checking whether they could be used on London’s streets. In one of his most humiliating episodes as mayor, the then home secretary, Theresa May, banned them from use anywhere in England and Wales. It left the capital’s taxpayers with three expensive white elephants.

Too big, too dangerous, too costly: the faults of Boris Johnson’s water cannon

The current mayor, Sadiq Khan, pledged to claw back as much money as possible on the redundant vehicles by selling them. But after almost two years the mayor’s office admitted defeat in its attempt to find a reputable buyer.

It announced on Monday that it had agreed to sell the vehicles for just £11,025 to Reclamations Ollerton, a scrap metal yard in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

The fee recoups 3.4% of the £322,834.71 spent on the vehicles since 2014.

The 25-year-old vehicles cost £85,022 in 2014, but they were found to be riddled with faults and required expensive modification to make them roadworthy. This included £32,000 to comply with the city’s low emission zone, and almost £1,000 on new stereos’.

I cannot see how you have answered what Primrose has asked. Nothing to do with Boris, but all to do with Starmer. Avoiding the issue. Why is he not clamping down on ALL thugs, but just white British ones it seems.
