The former BBC Newscaster and anchor man for so many State occasions is appearing in court today with having indecent images of children.

Over 30 images in all, with three being of the most serious level…

Urmstongran Wed 31-Jul-24 16:26:44

Huw is one dirty bastard.

Rockyroad Wed 31-Jul-24 16:27:59

Iam64

Rocky road, I don’t believe the bbc produces paedophiles.

TerriBull is correct, sexual abuse of children has been with us from the beginning of time.

Look the list up. There are plenty of them. Rolf Harries, Stuart Hall, Jimmy Saville.

Huw is one dirty bastard.

He certainly is Ug.

I read that he didn't create the images found on his PC but was sent them by another person. Why plead guilty to making the images rather than storing them?

BlueBelle Wed 31-Jul-24 16:49:41

Yes I agree urms he is, with the outward covering of being a loving family man. how many more are amongst us?
If paedophilia is a mental illness how come very very few women are ever accused of it I ve just heard a judge on the radio say that in all his years he’s never had a woman before him. so are there no mentally ill women !!!!

Anniebach Wed 31-Jul-24 16:51:21

Mental illness does not mean only depression and anxiety,
do we speak of physical illness ?

BlueBelle Wed 31-Jul-24 16:59:41

callistemom I think you misunderstood me I was quoting someone else saying it was a mental illness I totally agree with you it’s not a mental illness it’s a choice We have no choice about depression or anxiety but he had a choice about his actions …..mental illness is a big excused

Making" indecent images can have a wide legal definition, and covers more than simply taking or filming the original picture or clip. The Crown Prosecution Service says, external it can include opening an email attachment containing an image; downloading an image from a website to a screen; storing an image on a computer; accessing a pornographic website in which an images appears in an automatic "pop-up" window; receiving an image via social media, even if unsolicited and even if part of a group; or live-streaming images of children

Huw Edwards was only exposed as a paedophile after Welsh detectives investigating another sex offender uncovered the BBC star's number in a depraved WhatsApp chat, MailOnline can reveal.

Edwards, 62, is facing 10 years in jail after today pleading guilty to making 41 indecent images of children, which included two sexual videos of a boy under nine.

BlueBelle Wed 31-Jul-24 17:01:48

Apparently if they plead guilty it reduces the sentence (by half I think)

I know, I was agreeing with you but you'd quoted another poster too.

Huw is one dirty bastard.

He certainly is!

He will however be a slightly less arrogant dirty bastard when he’s slopping put in prison.

His poor wife and children having to live with the shame.

Just now in the Telegraph:

“ The man who shared indecent images of children with Huw Edwards, the former BBC presenter, received a suspended prison sentence in March this year after pleading guilty to seven offences, police have confirmed.

Alex Williams, 25, from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, shared the images with Edwards via WhatsApp.

Scotland Yard arrested Edwards in November last year after receiving information from colleagues in South Wales Police.

An examination of a phone seized by officers revealed Edwards’s participation in a WhatsApp conversation.

Williams was subsequently charged and after appearing in court pleaded guilty to seven offences of possessing category A indecent images; possessing category B indecent images; possessing category C indecent images; distributing category A indecent images; distributing category B indecent images; distributing category C indecent images and possessing prohibited images of children.

He was sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on 15 March to a total of 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.”

Urmstongran Wed 31-Jul-24 17:13:18

Explaining in the Telegraph:

“What are category A, B and C images?
Category A is the most severe type of child abuse image. These images involve penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal, or sadism.

Possession of category A images generally carries a tariff of between 26 weeks and three years in custody, according to sentencing council guidelines.

Category B images are deemed as “moderately” severe. They include images showing a child or children being subjected to non-penetrative sexual activity.

Someone found guilty of possessing category B images could expect anything from a high-level community order to 18 months in custody.

Finally, category C includes images of children in erotic poses. Sentencing for possession of category C images can range from a medium level community order to 26 weeks in custody.

Guidelines allow discretion for judges to take into account factors including no previous convictions, showing remorse, positive character, mental disorder or serious medical condition.

Since last year, judges are also expected to take into account prison overcrowding when deciding whether to jail a defendant.”

Oh, a slap on the wrist!

One has to wonder about a judge who decides such a lenient sentence is proper punishment for such a crime.

No, why would I ? he pleaded guilty, found guilty

Urmstongran Wed 31-Jul-24 17:18:12

“What is the punishment?/ Will he go to jail?
Edwards is due to be sentenced on Sept 16 and has been released on bail.

“In my view, he will either get a three-month community order or a suspended sentence,” Ms Spencer said.

“I doubt he will go to prison for a first offence. There’s so few images in his possession and also he’s entered a guilty plea.

“I deal with cases all the time where people have thousands of images and they don’t go to prison.”

Callistemon213 Wed 31-Jul-24 17:28:23

Yes. They are let off with a slap on the wrist.
Could be your next door neighbour, children's teacher, cub leader, Sunday school teacher, football coach.

Time to crack down on these paedophiles.
For every photo there is a traumatised child somewhere, these children are worth more than that.

Cadeby Wed 31-Jul-24 17:30:59

I don't know anything about images of children used in this way. But sadly, I feel it must be relatively common. The internet must feel heaven sent for these creatures.

Primrose53 Wed 31-Jul-24 17:40:54

Feel so sorry for his 5 kids. I can categorically say that if he were my Dad and found guilty, that would be the end of our relationship.

Anniebach

Experts on mental illnesses

I agree with you Annie.. but he seems to have started during covid..
unless there's an awful lot that we don't know.. so the co-morbidity of paedophilia and depression where he has had irrepressible urges for many years somehow doesn't ring true.. I expect he'll have a proper Forensic MH assessment and we might find out.. though I doubt whether it will be made public..

Anniebach Wed 31-Jul-24 18:00:58

pascal any assessment wouldn’t be believed.

Kandinsky Wed 31-Jul-24 18:06:00

Revolting man.

HousePlantQueen Wed 31-Jul-24 18:27:46

I just cannot imagine what his wife, children and grandchildren feel, revulsion is not a strong enough word. Imagine looking back on the times when grandad gave your child a hug, a cuddle and wondering......it makes me feel sick. Whatever deserved punishment Edwards gets, it is nothing compared to that suffered by his innocent family. Why do men, and it inevitably is men, not think of the bigger picture, of the dreadful consequence of their perversions, of the impact on their family

Kandinsky Wed 31-Jul-24 18:33:39

Because they don’t think they’ll get caught.
