The former BBC Newscaster and anchor man for so many State occasions is appearing in court today with having indecent images of children.

Over 30 images in all, with three being of the most serious level…

Patsy70 - James Timpson’s parents were long standing, well respected, foster carers so highly likely to have direct knowledge of the often devastating impact on children
Their companies have always aimed to employ ex offenders but they refuse to employ sex offenders.
James Timpson is imo a great appointment. Im hoping he takes a theoretical approach to punishment of sex offendersb

Patsy70 Thu 01-Aug-24 19:22:33

Yes, I think his appointment is a good one too. Would be interested to hear his views on this particular case.

Doodledog - the support/therapy for men who want help not to act on their sexual attraction t0 children is from experienced psychologists or ‘experts’ like Ray Wyre, or specialist NCPCC practitioners. It’s confidential. As with any other contract agreed before therapy , confidentiality is agreed unless it becomes clear there are safeguarding issues. Therapists are told of horrifying fantasies. Their risk management is impressive but I’ve never heard of an offender or msn seeking help about who a ‘no risk’ conclusion could be reached.

God, what an awful job that must be. You'd want to bleach your brain every night.

It’s been suggested on gransnet previously that people who work in safeguarding ‘see it everywhere’ and over exaggerate. Very naive and in truth offensive

Doodledog Thu 01-Aug-24 19:56:12

Yes, I'm sure it must be. It must be really difficult to listen to that all day.

Smileless2012 Thu 01-Aug-24 20:00:01

Yes Iam. My brother as a solicitor was on the childcare panel for several years. He came off when it when he couldn't deal with it anymore.

I thought Huw Edwards looked quite defiant, when walking into court. He looked directly into the cameras. Shameless, I thought

Iam64 Thu 01-Aug-24 20:02:05

Smilesless -yes everyone close to this work is touched by it.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 20:02:18

He wore sunglasses the whole time

Iam64 Thu 01-Aug-24 20:17:00

I know the hair cut angle is criticised but - it’s hugely popular with boys of all ages. Less so with mature men

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 20:22:45

So he had a new haircut to attract young boys, oh Iam

Iam64 Thu 01-Aug-24 20:31:06

NonAnnie - that’s not what I meant, more about fitting in with an age group much younger than his own. Which it seems is what he wanted

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 20:34:41

Which age group Iam ? I really don’t believe people would only sell their filth to someone near their age

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 20:38:22

He has his hair so like his father in his 60”s , Howell Edwards

Iam64 Thu 01-Aug-24 20:48:47

Annie I wasn’t referring to indecent images. Men who are attracted to boys sometimes seek to fit in. It’s alleged he made inappropriate approaches to young employees
That’s enough from me I wasn’t looking to make a big deal but - I’ve noticed that hair cut amongst primary and high school boys it’s a trend 🌞

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 20:50:51

He didn’t meet any boys did he ?

Cossy Thu 01-Aug-24 21:09:07

surely all abusers are mentally unwell? doesn't it go with the territory?

No they are controlling abusers!

Cossy Thu 01-Aug-24 21:11:23

Not that we know of, but many images were “children”. One as young as 7, some of the images were described as “moving” videos one would assume.

No one seems to take much notice or care about these abused children. God only knows what else might happen to them and who photographed and filmed these innocent kids? It beggars belief!

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 21:23:31

Then why the obsession with hair cuts .

Yes, it is.

I'd call it being aware and not naïve and too trusting like many people I know.

I have mentioned the children more than once, Cossy but yes, calling someone weird and commenting on haircuts is avoiding the seriousness of these offences and the fact that real children were being abused.

Whether or not he met the children himself is academic; for every photo or video a young life was being destroyed.

mabon1 Thu 01-Aug-24 22:26:55

Hear, hear, he knew damn well what he was doing for years. Good for The Mirror started digging.

Kate1949 Thu 01-Aug-24 23:16:01

Well I stand by calling him weird. Sometimes there are signals.

RosiesMaw2 Thu 01-Aug-24 23:18:31

It’s not enough for the BBC to bleat that “Lessons must be learnt”- they should lose their charter (or licence or whatever it is) and companies and independent broadcasters should tender for fixed term contracts.
A bit like when the railways were privatised.
Oh I know there would be total chaos but the BBC has become some sort of sacred cow about whom nothing may be said or done.
We have seen what stratospheric salaries they get from public money (for reading the news? Or discussing a football match. How hard is that?)
If they can do better than the competition they might get the contract but these should be fixed term and liable to cancellation of they do not meet the requisite standards.

Well said Rosies aw2
