Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

After reading all the comments here about missing posters I contacted GN to ask about rules as members are unsure about if they can say anything. The message back is that yes you can talk about them as long as all in the spirit of GN and there are no personal attacks on them.
So there you have it.😃

As far as I remember there was only one on that thread, but the whole thread was taken down (can't remember why).

I can sort of see why someone would want to say their piece if they didnt agree, it takes some bravery of going against the tide of everyone saying someone is wonderful. I mean that generally not specifically in relation to GSM.
Can we give permission that if any of us get banned we are happy for people to say what they like both good and badgrin

Ah, the 'spirit of GN' clause grin. Some clarity on what that means would be so useful.

Thank you for that clarification, Oreo.

I’m another who feels aggrieved GSM was banned. We usually|often\always disagreed on politics but we had more in common than divided us.
Both had long standing work in Court/Cjs settings, both respected our Judiciary, even when we didn’t agree wrath their conclusions - both aware that would be a vanishingly rare event.
She really knew dogs, especially her chosen breed.
She could be abrasive but equality could be hugely generous and kind
It’s my belief that she, along with another ‘regular’ was targeted by some ridiculous report button group, deliberately provoked and chosen as the poster this group wanted banned
Awful
Free the German Shepherds Mum one - bring her back

Totally agree. We frequently disagreed when it came to politics and some other issues, but I respected her breadth of knowledge on legal issues, dogs and many other matters. I don't recall her ever being 'abusive' to anyone. Maybe my definition of 'abusive' is different to others, but I can't recall seeing anything which would merit a ban. In fact, I can only think of one poster in particular who was very argumentative and 'attacking' in her posts - and she targeted me on more than one occasion. She seems have to disappeared too - maybe quite a while ago. However, I've never reported anyone and I honestly think it would have to be very personal and offensive before I would even think to do so.

This is a Labour councillor?

Jeez, what hope have we got??

Jenn53 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:28:24

Well said "Whitewavemark2"! Agree with you 100%

Wyllow3 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:31:48

Speaking as your ordinary leftie not happy clap but thoughtful I am disgusted by that Labour councillors remarks and he will get the full force of the law on him quite rightly.

However we have been swamped with hatred and slogans both on SM and in the chants of rioters last week, equally, horribly, nasty, planning, and I think a sense of perspective is useful.

Has he been sentenced and jailed within days? Will his sentencing be broadcast live on air?
If not, why not? because that’s what’s happened to the rioters.
Maybe I’ve missed his live on air sentencing - happy for someone to link it to me.

violent people need to be treated the same.

I loved the placard that said “Don’t hate; gyrate!”

He was arrested and charged within hours, and remanded in custody ahead of a court hearing on August 9th.

At that, he refused to enter a plea, so has been remanded again until September 6th. He has not been sentenced because, as has been explained, someone can only be sentenced once they are proved guilty - quickly by their own admission, slowly by the underfunded and depleted legal system if they do not - but he is still be held in custody.

It’s all been widely reported. No idea if was shown live anywhere, but then I’d no idea any other cases had been.

"The rules are fluid 😉 It all depends on who’s manning the fort when the report button is pressed."

It wasn't admin who jumped on me, it was other members, petra

It was wonderful to see the tolerant people of Brighton protest peacefully against the right wing thugs.

Just wonder if some of those Moslem countries had the same tolerance to gay people, and maybe in this country too.

Luckygirl3 Sat 10-Aug-24 14:38:51

That is not relevant - it is our attitudes that matter in this situation.
