Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

There was a post recently which said someone had complained about her and she had been banned. when I made a comment that I missed her the whole post was taken down. I tried to contact her through a private message and wasn't allowed to..

☹️☹️☹️☹️

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Aug-24 19:20:33

We certainly didn’t see eye to eye, but I’m sure she hasn’t been banned. Well, I’ve never seen anything that would have been sufficient to ban her at least.

I reckon she’s either decided to leave or she’s having a break.

What gets you banned?

well you obviously didn't see the post about her where it there were many comments saying someone had complained and she had been banned. This whole post was taken down..

I completely agree with you about her not saying anything so awful that she should be banned. I didn't agree with many things she wrote ... but she was very generous with her advice.. and I like diversity of opinions and miss her.

Yes, according to that thread, apparently she has been banned which is a great pity as she made valuable and helpful contributions to Gransnet, however anyone viewed her politics.

I think new posters appeared who seemed to be rather goady and she may have disagreed with them.

I expect some of these posts will be taken down.

Fgs, I loathed her politics, but I still think she was a good egg, lots of her comments were helpful and I hope she’s able to come back.

Does anyone know what’s happened to Glorianny? (Soz name might be wrongly spelled)

Callistemon213 Fri 09-Aug-24 20:15:40

The problem is, unless someone is in touch off GN and let's us know, we never find out if missing posters are all right.

MissAdventure Fri 09-Aug-24 20:18:46

I was jumped on, once, for mentioning another gransnet member.
I wish people would let me know when "the rules" change.

I’m another who feels aggrieved GSM was banned. We usually|often\always disagreed on politics but we had more in common than divided us.
Both had long standing work in Court/Cjs settings, both respected our Judiciary, even when we didn’t agree wrath their conclusions - both aware that would be a vanishingly rare event.
She really knew dogs, especially her chosen breed.
She could be abrasive but equality could be hugely generous and kind
It’s my belief that she, along with another ‘regular’ was targeted by some ridiculous report button group, deliberately provoked and chosen as the poster this group wanted banned
Awful
Free the German Shepherds Mum one - bring her back

There was another marmite person banned years ago called jinglebells people tried everything to get her reinstated but it didnt work. I liked her sense of humour.

Callistemon213 Fri 09-Aug-24 20:39:23

Jinglebellsfrocks could be so kind, too.

I remember when there was an atrocity in Nice, she was going there the next day and said she'd lay wreath on behalf of Grannetters.

Sadly, I remember the thread letting us know when she died.

Oh yes I’d forgotten Nice!

Wyllow3 Fri 09-Aug-24 21:14:44

Agree about GSM, her advice was always to the point and much missed and freely given

There was a thread about however it in GN already, some might remember, which ran for about 2 pages.

However the thread was taken down, maybe its not OK to discuss it,

or maybe it was felt that people might not like being talked about when they weren't able to take part? If she has chosen to take a break?

When my daughter was nearing the end of her life in a hospice, jingl would pm me often late into the night with support, kindness and love.

Less than two years later, her last message to me was wishing me strength and courage as DH had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had been banned so managed to ‘join’ using a borrowed smartphone just so she could send it. That’s how much she cared.

A few days later she was gone.

What really made me angry was when we had a thread where we could share our memories of jingl, HQ had the nerve to post their condolences on it. 😡

They still haven’t learned how to ‘Read the Room!’

VioletSky Fri 09-Aug-24 22:04:51

GSM had a court room force when it came to slicing you to bits with very few words

Couldn't help but admire that

OnwardandUpward Fri 09-Aug-24 22:10:31

Yes a bit brutal at times, but always very polished. grin

argymargy Sat 10-Aug-24 07:59:33

Well that explains why GSM is absent from this thread. Like others, I disagree with her politics and find her approach irritating sometimes but neither of those are bannable offences! Hopefully she’s just taking a break.

Doodledog Sat 10-Aug-24 08:39:00

I don’t know what happened and didn’t see a deleted speculative thread, but things got unpleasant on here when it became obvious that Labour would form the next government. I came very close to leaving or taking a long break. This continued after the election and a lot of things were said that IMO clearly breached the guidelines (although I agree that these are far from hard and fast). Not just by one poster, but at times I was surprised at what was allowed to pass as acceptable.

As GN is not proactively moderated there has always been a somewhat patchy approach to deletions and bannings, so if GSM has indeed been banned (and that may not be the case) it could just be that several people reported her posts (I didn’t).

I got on well with GSM, although was shocked by some of her later posts and wondered whether she was ok. I did say so directly as I believe in being honest, but was told my opinion counted for nothing to her, so decided to just ignore her posts from then on. Had she stayed around and stopped being so rude that might have changed, as I don’t bear grudges, but for whatever reason she didn’t.

Maybe she’s just decided to step back from social media for a while, which I came close to doing myself. This is supposed to be fun, after all grin. I hope GSM is ok, whatever happened, but will say that being in a position to give subject-specific advice does not give any of us a free pass to be rude the rest of the time.

The rules are fluid 😉 It all depends on who’s manning the fort when the report button is pressed.

They still haven’t learned to read the room
You and I have both been members since the off and seen this soooo many times.
There is so much more I could say on this subject but life’s too short 😉
It is what it is.

petra Sat 10-Aug-24 09:03:24

I have no problem with feisty posters, as long as they’re intellectually feisty 😂 And GSM certainly was.

MaizieD Sat 10-Aug-24 09:09:46

I agree with your post at 8.39, Doodledog. Tactfully put, I think.

Oreo Sat 10-Aug-24 09:13:29

After reading all the comments here about missing posters I contacted GN to ask about rules as members are unsure about if they can say anything. The message back is that yes you can talk about them as long as all in the spirit of GN and there are no personal attacks on them.
So there you have it.😃

Galaxy Sat 10-Aug-24 09:22:03

I liked her and she had interesting things to say. Didnt agree politically or on some social issues, but talking to people you agree with on everything doesnt make you think.
