Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

It looks as if the whole of Brighton has turned out. It is quite a big road that runs from the station down to the sea, and it is absolutely packed with thousands upon thousands of people all just stood around being tolerant😄

Civilisation - thank you Brighton!

to be fair it is the same in Bristol and several other cities. This thuggery and prejudice will not be tolerated.. I am proud to live in Brighton though..

Heard there were 100 anti far right protestors to every tin pot nazi.
Brighton is the rainbow city, this was never going to be worth the thugs train fare.
Good riddance.

Well done Brighton! I especially love that the drag queens and Samba band met the fascists from the train station grin Also I'm sure the fascists faces are all over the stations cctv they travelled from on grin Nice one.
Love the tolerance and peace. flowers

And then there was the anti-Muslim poster, who thought Brighton is somewhere in the Middle East ...

Doh!

There are moments when the goodness in people shines through and your heart swells with pride ❤️

I haven’t seen any news about drag queens and glitter but there are huge anti racist protests/ marches through Birmingham and East London. So far peaceful as far right groups didn’t show up at all.
Tbh I don’t want to see any of this on our streets from any huge group, including the obligatory masked men waving Palestine flags and Bangladesh flags shouting from the river to the sea.Hope they go home quietly sometime soon.It makes cities and towns no go areas.
I think the tough fast jail sentences have worked and that’s the end of it all as they aren’t coming out this evening.

It does - this is the country I fell in love with and adopted, for those very true British values of tolerance, humour, humanity, which adopted me as one of the team, all those years ago (1970). Makes me so happy- and even more so for my ACs and GCs.

It's ironic that if you ask people what British values are, most people include tolerance, but that's exactly what the people who go on about "British values" don't have.

It's happening in many places around the country.

I love all the counter protests

It's brought me so much joy

In one place they were singing "We are many many many more than you"

I could cry

Thank you @Whitewavemark2! This thread is just what I needed to see on GN.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 08-Aug-24 07:16:05

Oh growstuff that's wonderful- no more Brighton Pavilions eh?
And to hear that some anti immigrant protesters decided to hide behind police officers ... oh the irony.
What a joyful start to the day on GN

I just read on MN that a crowd of anti-rioters were singing ‘We’re black, white and Muslim and we’re Jews’ to the tune of ‘She’ll be coming down the mountain…’

That’s the stuff! How heartening to read that.

Solidarity at its very best. Thousands standing together to show human decency is inspiring.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 08-Aug-24 07:45:24

I am grinning at the thought of what happened yesterday.

That was incredibly inspiring.

Stand down Brighton

This cheered me up and made me smile. When people like Braverman, Farage etc say they're speaking for the silent majority it has proved they're not.

Kandinsky Thu 08-Aug-24 08:11:10

I didn’t think much would happen last night. They’ve had almost a week of rioting so they’re done.
Unfortunately though, I don’t think a few drag queens sprinkling glitter is enough to save this severely divided, utterly f**ked up country.

Iam64 Thu 08-Aug-24 08:19:18

Good morning - what a relief to see the majority oppose the awful right wing thugs.
Cheer up Kadinsky
