Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

This is a red herring.

We have a Labour councillor who has made an outrageous remark, and will in the course of time be held to judgement.

We have all remarked on it.

What is left to say.

But flogging a dead horse doesn’t detract from the point of this thread,

Which is to celebrate the fundamental goodness of the human spirit and the vast majority in which this resides.

Well seems to me that there’s a real down on anyone here who is not an ardent Labour supporter? Wwm2 so there’s an irony about your quote. I hope you can see that.

Each and every one of us are entitled to our own political views, and the right to express them in a respectful manner.

Sadly many of us, including myself, appear fatigued and dumbfounded by the last 14 years of Tory rule (or should I say ruin).

Not one promise was kept, we were treated to a myriad of PMs, some elected, some not, various Chancellors and utterly divisive MPs all squaring up to be the next leader.

We lived through a disastrous Brexit, the outcome of which simply appears to legitimise bigots, a dreadful Covid, where we were lied to again and again and lots of dubious contracts were awarded. Normal decent Labour Party supporters have been derided constantly, “loony left”, “woke”, “do gooders”, “bleeding hearts” “snowflakes” and many other unrepeatable names.

No one is suggesting Starmer is a Demi-god, the panacea to all our woes, or that in his first month of office he’ll resolve our “Broken Britain”.

But frankly, I’m a proud Labour voter, though by nature am quite a centralist, and I’m sick to the back teeth of constantly being told “everything is so leftie, media is leftie, nothing is balanced”

Quite frankly, it’s Bollox!

If anyone from Reform had said it the internet would have exploded.

A Labour councillor says it and suddenly everyone’s busy having dinner.

That’s nonsense Kandinsky

Every single person I know would condemn his stupid and appalling remarks, and he should be ashamed and penalised, having said that Farage has indeed said far far worse whilst campaigning about the small boats!

He wasn’t just making a remark, he had either a mic or megaphone and it was a rent a rant situation to the crowds around him.

No time for Farage but he has certainly not called for any throats to be cut.

You need to change the record

We get it

We understand

Anything else you’d like us to say?

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 20:20:59

We needn’t go on about it but it needs acknowledging that it wasn’t all peace and love in the East London protest.

JaneJudge Thu 08-Aug-24 20:21:33

Cossy always posts what I believe to be true

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 20:22:12

Are you in East London Oreo? Not combative just want to know your experience

JaneJudge Thu 08-Aug-24 20:26:09

I turn up and miss most the pages. Who wants throats cut 😵‍💫

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 20:28:05

I am an East Londoner JaneJudge that’s all am prepared to say.

Wyllow3 Thu 08-Aug-24 20:30:03

I excepted this when I came in, a pile on, a few seizing the words of one disgusting counsellor who hopefully will be charged appropriately:

.... against the hundreds of rants on and offline made by the rioters and their puppet masters many thankfully arrested and hopefully imprisoned

......against the suffering of the families in Southport who not only had the murders in their community but the rioting mobs that night and have been trying to heal their community.

Get things in perspective.

Celebrate tolerance and call out intolerance wherever it occurs, but keep perspective.

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 20:30:57

He’s a Labour Councillor who was ‘speechgiving’ in an inpromptu performance in Hoe St Walthamstow last night.
Calling for fascists , meaning far right protestors or anyone supporting them to have their throats cut.

JaneJudge Thu 08-Aug-24 20:31:47

That’s completely out of order, unforgivable

JaneJudge Thu 08-Aug-24 20:33:17

Oreo has a point though, whilst it’s all being dealt with it must be ALL
No sides
No exceptions
It needs proper exploration as it’s so complex

Don’t you get it? He wasn’t a numpty random in the crowd but a Labour Councillor whipping up incitement to murder.

Kandinsky Thu 08-Aug-24 20:37:16

It gets worse the more I think about it.

These riots started because 3 beautiful young girls were stabbed to death - and this Labour councillor wants his supporters to go out and cut people’s throats.

Unbelievable.

Has it? But not on here where we are.

Yes, it has. Who is 'we'? Do you expect people to follow you around from thread to thread in case you've missed what they've had to say? grin

If is just untrue to say that nobody mentioned it. It was brought up some time ago. People just have other things to do than post the same things on multiple threads. I've been cooking and eating dinner since it was discussed, as I'm sure have others.

Playing Devils advocate, how many pages would there be about it, if a Reform councillor (if there are any?) said something similar?grin

No idea. Much would depend on who was around at the time, and what was posted about it, I suppose. If, as in this case, nobody was defending it, then fewer posts than if someone pretended that it was just harmless debate and someone 'just saying what others are scared to say.

No. I was busy having dinner, after I'd posted on another thread and said that he had rightly been suspended and may face jail. I wasn't aware that the rules had changed to say that people should repeat their posts across several threads in case not everyone sees them.

That is exactly the sort of word twisting and mangling of the truth that people are complaining about.

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 20:45:49

So you’re Scottish Cadeby🤔
Why the rude response?
The events of this week were unbelievable but so was the behaviour of the Councillor calling for killings to a crowd in a packed street.
