Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

What’s it matter Doodledog ? I heard this news and put it on the thread which meant posters who hadn’t heard about it learned it from me.
Others learned about it from you.
So what?

All comments in reply to my concerns about a Labour councillor wanting to cut people’s throats.

On a thread about the tolerant peace loving left.

oh give over. What he said is awful and so so wrong. ONE person, compared to 1000s of violent thugs, looting in the name of saving the country. He has been dealt with and arrested, and quite rightly so.

How you can even begin to compare, is such ridiculous nonsense.

I couldn't care less. I was responding to the 'factual inaccuracy' that nobody 'from the left' had mentioned it because it involved a Labour man. We had, just not on that particular thread.

There has been so much distortion (which is what the article about Farage was pointing out), and it's tiresome.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 08-Aug-24 21:18:28

Oh well folks this thread has served its purpose to make it clear just how many people are part of the community that reject violence snd division.

Unfortunately It was always going to be the case that detractors will try to push back on our delight at the reaction to the hard right thugs.

But they will never take away our knowledge that a huge majority in the U.K. completely reject the rioters.

🥰

Thanks Wwm2 - done, thanks.

He's been arrested now...

Good.
There were people around cheering him too.
Extremists of any kind inciting violence should be stopped.

Two wrongs have never made a right.

Thank goodness for all the determined and steadfast people who came out to reclaim the streets.

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 23:00:49

Exactly, awful people and their language and behaviour have to be called out whichever side they place themselves on.

Namsnanny Thu 08-Aug-24 23:20:21

I'd like to think it was.

Casdon Thu 08-Aug-24 23:23:34

Are people trying to make a point here, it’s eluding me if so because I don’t think anybody would condone extremist behaviour, wherever it’s coming from, surely?

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 23:27:12

Unsure really.
A few posters are making light of the language and behaviour the other night of the London Councillor.
I would hope it wasn’t condoned on here.

The point I was making was:

Extremists of any kind inciting violence should be stopped.
Two wrongs have never made a right.

Surely that is quite straightforward?

Namsnanny Thu 08-Aug-24 23:48:24

I was going to just put the word 'agree' (^especially with two wrongs don't make a right^), but I remembered some don't like one word answers.

Seemed straightforward to me.

Oreo I don’t know where you’re reading any posts making light of this. I certainly can’t find any.

What he said was wrong.
No-one is condoning it.
No-one is making light of it.

Casdon Fri 09-Aug-24 00:00:05

I may have misinterpreted, because I was thinking about people on this site, rather than your general statement above Callistemon213. I wouldn’t expect that anybody on Gransnet would, and haven’t seen that anybody has, ever, said or implied that they condone extremist behaviour by whoever, so I wondered what the point was in saying anything. I assume they would be banned from the site anyway if they said something along those lines.

I saw a video today of a rioter shouting at a policeman "I pay your wages, I pay your wages, I pay your wages!" as the policeman kept warning the man to move back.

The policeman's dog bit the rioter on the bum, and someone in the comments wrote...
"Not only does he pay the policeman's wages, he's now fed his dog, too" grin

As far as I'm concerned I'm pleased to see anyone inciting violence, hatred, or anything else contrary to our laws, be arrested and charged appropriately. I don't care if they are hard right, hard left or hard to categorise in any way. I'm still pleased to see local communities come on their streets peacefully when their neighbours are threatened by thugs. On the news yesterday I heard that three men had been jailed, one of them described himself as anti fascist, he behaved disgracefully and got locked up as was correct. Why are we having this discussion? I have not seen anyone defend this vile labour councillor and I was unaware of him until I read GN.

It seems to be an attempt to detract from a discussion of how Nigel Farage has stirred up hatred. Whataboutery was used to smear posters outside the right- wing echo chamber by suggesting that no reference was made to the councillor’s behaviour, and although that was completely untrue it persisted.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Aug-24 08:17:41

I see that on-line conspiracy is now being investigated, and one person has already been arrested.

wwm2 do you mean the wealthy woman from Cheshire has been arrested? The one who forgot to use the word - ‘apparently’?

A few things here making light of the situation IMO.
I don’t do the naming/ shaming thing with posters names ever, it just leads to bad feeling and spats.
Nobody has condoned it, how could they?

Doodledog Fri 09-Aug-24 08:22:03

Good. People aren’t as clever as many of them think. They may have got away with dog-whistling behaviour before, but clearly there is a crackdown in place. It’s about time.
