Former White House Medic Says Trump Needs Neurological Testing

Dr Jeffrey Kuhlman, ex-White House Medical chief was quoted in The Guardian stating all Presidential candidates should undergo mental health assessments, considering the tremendous responsibility of the job, and perhaps no-one should be allowed to run for office above the age of 70.

Seems reasonable when we see Trump STILL ranting about the 2020 election being "stolen" from him and - very recently - claiming he won the TV debate with Kamala Harris, no doubt about it, he won hands down.......but when the former head of medical staff at the White House voices his concerns about a former President's general behaviour then that certainly gives pause for thought.

He doesn’t seem mentally stable, does he? The speech about eating pets was far from rational. It’s scary to look at the men in charge of the world and think of how much power they have over all of us.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 13-Sept-24 07:35:25

I wonder if he voiced the same concerns about President Biden? Neither of them are an advert for a level headed, neurologically sound President.

Although I agree with him.

Sounds like a plan 👍

IMO anyone voting for Trump should have their head examined however, it's not just age that makes people unfit for office most of the worst world leaders have been much younger than 70. Trump has been unsuitable for the position of POTUS all his adult life, he's the classic narcissist. I think the people supporting his nomination are the ones who are at fault but a psychological/neurological check might help them to be braver and prevented Biden standing.

I would not put an age limit on becoming leader of a nation, but I do think these days that it is reasonable to expect any candidate, of all ages to submit themselves for a private physical and mental health assessment before taking on the highest posts as government leaders.

AGAA4 Fri 13-Sept-24 08:40:31

I agree with the doctor. All candidates for the presidency should undergo mental assessment and in Trump's case it is essential. He is clearly unstable.

JenniferEccles Fri 13-Sept-24 08:50:02

As this medic claims all Presidential candidates should have mental health assessments then obviously that applies to Kamala Harris as well.

Possible mental health concerns have been raised for a considerable time on Trump's mental well-being.

"In addition, numerous public figures, media sources, and mental health professionals have speculated that Donald Trump may have mental health impairments, ranging from narcissistic personality disorder to some form of dementia, which runs in his family"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_and_health_concerns_about_Donald_Trump#:~:text=In%20addition%2C%20numerous%20public%20figures,which%20runs%20in%20his%20family.

Most commonly, that he has classic symptoms of a narcissistic personality disorder.

I cant recall concern on past presidents at this level.

Elegran Fri 13-Sept-24 09:11:27

It sometimes seems to me that anyone who wants to become POTUS must be a sufferer from mental health problems.

Doodledog Fri 13-Sept-24 09:21:38

I don’t think there should be an age limit either. But a cognitive ability test would be a good idea.

Wyllow3 Fri 13-Sept-24 10:01:28

Age limits are a really difficult one. Potentially you are looking at 8 years as POTUS. Set the bar at 72 and you end up at 80 which seems to me an outer limit? I really think Trump is too old. (always thought Biden was)

Cognitive tests would be a good idea.

MiniMoon Fri 13-Sept-24 10:07:04

I watched an interview with a psychologist on YouTube last night. It explains a lot about Trump's behaviour and way of thinking. I am in agreement with the majority that a psychological assessment for presidential candidates is a good idea.
This interview is 17 minutes long, but worth watching.

I think both of them are too old, but not everyone at that age would be. It's an individual thing, a bit like driving licences.

The difference is Biden stood down under pressure whilst Trump is still in the race. Shows the state of the media and US republican politics. Double standards abound.

I used to say one day the US will vote for Mickey Mouse as President- now that seems like a good idea!

Surely that is what the US is doing now - voting for Mickey Mouse, I mean can you see any difference a apart from the colouring?

keepingquiet Fri 13-Sept-24 18:17:11

Not sure I understand you MOnica. I must be a bit thick.

Maremia Fri 13-Sept-24 18:22:40

Perhaps this... Mickey Mouse is black, Trump is orange?

RosiesMaw2 Fri 13-Sept-24 19:01:43

“Neurological testing?”
Or as we used to say in Scotland
“He needs his head examined”

Jackiest Fri 13-Sept-24 19:27:28

It is not just Trump that need Neurological Testing it is also the huge number of people that are likely to vote for him.

I was saying that Donald Trump, like Mickey Mouse is a one diemensional almost comic book character. He is the sort of person a cartoonist would come up with if they were doing cartoons about the US having a President who was both evil and very stupid.

The problem he isn't a cartoon character he is for real, but he is both evil and very stupid, possible deranged.

Grantanow Sun 15-Sept-24 15:24:21

Would that be to find out if Mr Trump has any neurones?

SingingRabbits Wed 18-Sept-24 17:45:24

It is very arrogant to state that somebody is too old for something; and very tempting to say it when you disapprove of their opinions or want to stop them from doing something they want to do but you don't like for some reason.

SingingRabbits Wed 18-Sept-24 17:51:55

And we certainly don't want her as US President!
