I’m not surprised, he’s always, from TV anyway, seemed slightly ‘off’ to me

Ilovedogs22 Sun 15-Sept-24 19:34:02

Yes, yes me 2 ladies! His eyes are 2 close together, yes, yes they really are. Always thought he had a vibe about him but not in a good way either. 😕

I don't know why we bother with court cases, the arena of trial by popular opinion should always suffice.

I’m trying to remember who it was said that you should be careful what you say before a case comes to trial.

I dint know if he's guilty or not, I quite like him, but I was taken in by Huw Edwards.

There is no smoke without fire.

Dreadful expression, I have heard it said a few times and innocent people have been hurt by it. An old gossips phrase.

Galaxy Sun 15-Sept-24 20:47:11

The thing is the old gossips tend to be pretty spot on with regard to the safeguarding of women and children.

Contempt of Court Act 1981,
section 1, strict liability rule,
re publishing prejudicial material.
this includes the authors of such material,
which in this case would be the individual posters.
not bothered by the risk of imprisonment, obviously.

Of course he has 2 eyes.
And as for their position on his face- how can you tell behind the big glasses.
So never mind a trial or court hearing, let’s just measure the distance between them.
And for those who claim There’s no smoke without fire 1) there often is and 2) how much mud sticks to innocent people if enough is thrown?

Some of these comments have simply astounded me. Do all the nay-sayers know this man, know his wife?

And what on earth difference does it make where he came/comes from!!!?

I don’t know him, or his wife, but I do know it often takes 2 to tango. Taking against the man because of how he looks is extraordinary.

Knitting at the foot of the guillotine comes to mind on reading certain shockingly judgemental comments on this thread.

Galaxy Mon 16-Sept-24 06:14:50

Oh so it's not ok to comment on the male but it's absolutely fine to say his wife is somehow to blame.

Can’t help but agree…sadly

I don’t think anyone outside the couple involved has any cause to blame either partner, primarily as it’s nobody else’s business.

Galaxy Mon 16-Sept-24 06:49:01

I disagree, these are exactly the comments were made about Hugh Edwards. The issue of coercive control is society's business.

rafichagran Mon 16-Sept-24 07:30:41

He has not had his trial, we should not have trial by media.

denbylover Mon 16-Sept-24 07:43:21

And I still say it’s no-ones business outside of the 2 people involved. As Rafichagran has said there has been no trial as yet. Let the Courts decide, they presumably have the facts, we don’t. At the moment it appears as a ‘he said, she said’.

This is attracting attention purely as one partner appears on television. If it were Joe Bloggs vs Jane Bloggs would there be this level of interest? I doubt it.

eazybee Mon 16-Sept-24 09:33:19

The issue of coercive control is society's business.

When the facts are known. At the moment it is all speculation, most of it unpleasant.

Luckygirl3 Mon 16-Sept-24 09:39:28

He is indeed innocent until proven guilty as we all are -- but he was someone I could not warm to, and I found the whole concept of his friendship with Judi Dench very strange - it almost felt like a publicity stunt.

Anniebach Mon 16-Sept-24 09:43:04

Do you think the same of Judi Dench Luckygirl ?

Cossy Mon 16-Sept-24 09:55:33

Goodness! I do not know the man at all, not personally, I do know he’s had a bit of a hard life initially, I do know he publicly admitted he was virtually illiterate and then took steps to change this and I know he’s done a lot for disadvantaged people.

In my book, “innocent until proven guilty” still stands.

If he is found guilty then I hope they punish him and that his wife manages to make a fresh start.

Anniebach Mon 16-Sept-24 09:57:08

If found guilty can his wife sue him ?

Cossy Mon 16-Sept-24 10:31:18

I don’t know, but she can certainly divorce him and go after his earnings, assets etc to help her start again.

Anniebach Mon 16-Sept-24 10:32:44

She is working, can be seen on Instagram in her keep fit outfit

Oh I don't mean to laugh but I've heard this said many times about people.

"Don't trust them, their eyes are too close together" grin

Aldom Mon 16-Sept-24 13:38:39

Do some people go round looking at babies and working out their character based on how close their eyes are??????? Weird judgement to make isn't it? hmm
