For anyone who has missed the news recently Charlie Mullins has announced that he is leaving the UK. Here's a link to Marina Hyde in the Guardian. Other sources are available.

Perhaps Mr Farage will leave now he's Britain's highest earning MP. He'd have to give up his seat, of course, but would anyone notice?

He is a patriot, he won't leave. Why would he.

foxie48 Sun 19-Jan-25 13:24:19

Freya5 Wishful thinking! He's apparently hosting an inauguration party in Washington for Trump. He seems more interested in US politics than he does in British politics!

Shut the door on the way out!

Hope he enjoys his retirement and spends his money wisely, but as appears to have sold his business on, him leaving should have little impact on anyone

Rather an odd version of a patriot I’ve not seen much action in his constituency from him, very sad as it contains two very deprived wards, Jaywick and Pier Ward.

He was absolutely desperate to be an MP and now he is one, instead of staying local and learning his role and being “visible” he seems to spent more time abroad than in his own country.

What has happened to the wealth in the Sunak family? Farage is a pauper in comparison?

You’re quite right, he really shouldn’t be cozying up to Trump at all because we are quite able to defend ourselves with our army and other forces .
No, we don’t really need America as an ally best to keep them at arms length….🤔

foxie48 Sun 19-Jan-25 20:53:10

Farage is not in a position to make an ally of the US, he's not in government. I have no problem with whichever party is in government making an ally of the US even if Trump is POTUS, it's called diplomacy.

ronib Sun 19-Jan-25 21:02:08

Diplomacy seems something of a lost art? I wouldn’t hold out too much hope with Lammy and Darren Jones in this government.
Trump doesn’t play by the rules though does he?

I still wish Gransnet had a like button. If you have the time to watch or one of your staff, Charlie, I love all your work.

Whatever 😂

There's a lead article in today's Times about what the UK Diplomatic service in Washington has been doing in preparation for Trump's presidency. Diplomacy isn't a "lost art" it just generally goes on behind the scenes.

Just watched David Lammy completely backtracking on what he said about Trump previously calling him all sorts of names, now he’s trying to cozy up…. Unbelievable 🙄

There’s nothing unbelievable about it, his opinion of Trump hasn’t changed I’m sure, but he has to work with him. If you hated your boss or a colleague you would still have to maintain a veneer of civility at work. Thats just reality.

Well, his vice President once described him as a Nazi didn’t he?

Exactly Casdon - our government will work as constructively as possible with Trump. What on earth would you want them to do Shinemae

I’m rather tired of these people who think their opinion is so important who seem to get a lot of publicity and airtime. Tim Martin (Sir) has been a bit quiet recently. Maybe basking in the glory of how successful his beloved Brexit has been hmm?

I’m not talking about his vice president…

There really is no comparison between changing ‘a job’ when you dislike your boss and flouncing off as foreign secretary rather than attempt to work constructively with a democratically elected Potus. No matter how much you disagree politically

After what he said about Trump he is absolutely two-faced and I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him…

So you think every person who has an obnoxious person to deal with among their contacts should resign - whatever the job and whatever depends on that job? Customer Service departments would have a very rapid turnover of staff, and there would be no applicants for jobs as prison officers with murderers and felons in their charge, nurses looking after people with mental health problems, foster parents with traumatised and difficult children.

Iam64 Tue 21-Jan-25 19:49:26

It’s a relief our government ministers are capable of being “absolutely two faced’. Honestly - what a point of view

Did Trump invite Farage to sit at the top table at his coronation bash?
