Some of us have been warning from the start, that he was dangerous, very dangerous. We were called 'antisemites' and worse.

Will he?

I do defend Israel, they are being attacked by two different terrorist groups both of which are embedded in their countries political/ government life.
Do you show regret for all the Israeli deaths on October 7th and the hostages? For the thousands of Israelis forced out of their homes by Lebanese rockets?
Saying you have ‘no time’ for Hezbollah or Hamas doesn’t cut it IMO.
There have to be a few people who support Israel on here and I’m one of them.
Now, you have the opposite viewpoint as is your right but don’t expect me to apologise for mine.

I support Israel too, for all the reasons mentioned by Oreo, and I’m not going to apologise for it either. Israel is surrounded by enemies who wish to wipe it off the face of the earth. Of course they’ll defend themselves and their tiny country.

I have said many times that the loss of Israeli lives is a tragedy. The loss of any life is a tragedy. I am not against ordinary Israelis, many of whom despise Netanyahu, I am against how the Israeli government is committing genocide and now starting on Lebanon.
Wars are not fought like this, there are other ways to fight an enemy. Already more civilians in Gaza have been killed than have been killed by Russia in the Ukraine in a much longer war. This is annihilation.

You are quite correct “wars are not fought like this” you don’t use your own people as human shields, you don’t base your command centers in hospitals and schools, you don’t start a war knowing tens of thousands of your own civilians were going to die.
We now have Hamas totally defeated militarily holding several million civilians hostage, the Gaza war could end today if Hamas surrendered. No they want thousands more in Lebanon to die, They know Israel will fight that was entirely predictable and it will continue.

If international efforts fail to stop the slaughter and more and more people flee the region biglouis where do you think they are going to go? Like it or not, we are all affected by what happens in the wider world and have to take part in it.

The end game for Hamas is to rule Israel in which case all the Jews will leave, where will they go, that will be a real Exodus, 7 million plus, biblical reference will be insignificant.

Hamas cannot be allowed to prevail.

maddyfour Sat 28-Sept-24 09:31:21

Two good posts David49.
We will all suffer if Hamas and Hezbollah are able to succeed.

Israeli government is committing genocide and now starting on Lebanon

Do you actually read the news?
Lebanon have been firing rockets into Israel for months! To use your words, Lebanon, or more precisely Hezbollah started on Israel.
They are firing rockets into Israel now as I write. One of our Israeli Gransnetters has just written as much.

I’m with you (and others) on this Oreo.
Seems sides are taken - even on GN.

I'm not taking sides. In answer to the poster's question, yes, I think that he might.

Hope being members of NATO that will be a deterrent.

Kalm Sat 28-Sept-24 12:50:34

Netanyahu and his cabinet are criminals. They cannot give a number on how many innocent deaths are permissible. Nuremberg showed how bad leaders cannot evade the judicial process. The west’s crocodile tears talk about the violence stopping yet the criminal Israeli govt gets weapons that convert organic matter to vapour. That is a tactic as the deceased cannot be identified.

maddyfour Sat 28-Sept-24 13:31:37

Did you watch the BBC 2 documentary on Thursday Kalm?
You might be able to see the situation is much more complicated than you believe.

Cadenza123 Sat 28-Sept-24 14:37:07

Too many children have been killed or maimed over the last year. Whatever else is going on they are totally innocent. At some point all sides will have to talk to each other, now or in a decades time. No one will be safer, or be able to sleep more soundly until peace is negotiated.

Allsorts Sat 28-Sept-24 22:33:46

How can anyone justify killing. Israel wasn’t interested in peace. I think the ordinary people are, it’s these leaders playing chess with peoples lives got power. We as a country should leave the Middle East to sort their own problems out, we are too quick to interfere. I’m sorry for the people of Israel and of course Palestine who haven’t the money or might of Israel. It will rebound on them

Wyllow3 Sun 29-Sept-24 00:50:48

In terms of interfering and our involvement, at the moment the West is heavily involved: the people in Gaza are only alive because of massive international support: and huge military support comes from Western Countries mainly the USA for Israel.

How can Hamas justify killing 30,000+ of the people they are trying to help?.
Defending yourself is understandable but deliberately starting a war knowing that 20 times as many of your civilians are going to die compared with your adversary

Yup, I am here!
No genocide.
Israel is aiming to take down Hezbollah, not Lebanon.
Feels like some people on here just don't understand the situation.
Hezbollah have been firing rockets into Israel since October 8th (in support of their friends in Gaza who committed the October 7th massacre).
Israel is finally putting an end to it.
We want to get our citizens back to their homes in the north.
Hezbollah are a curse on Lebanon.
Look how many Lebanese and other Arab states are praising Israel for taking down Nasrallah!
Are you on the side of these terror organizations?
Surely not?

Allira Sun 29-Sept-24 09:44:12

I feel their joy. Re headline in The Telegraph.

Ordinary people in so many countries do not want to live under the yoke of these extreme oppressors.

Ordinary people the world over want peace, stability and freedom.

Allira Sun 29-Sept-24 09:47:03

Surely not?

I think it's seeing all those innocents caught up in this because terrorist groups use them as human shields which is so upsetting. It leads to skewed thinking.

These groups are a threat to the freedoms we all enjoy.

Philippa60 Sun 29-Sept-24 09:51:55

"I think it's seeing all those innocents caught up in this because terrorist groups use them as human shields which is so upsetting."
Completely agree, Allira.
It is awful to see innocent people being treated like human shields by these evil terrorists.
I weep for any innocent people caught up in this, especially children. They are not to blame!
I think analyzing the situation and understanding who these terrorists are is important.
They don't just want to attack Israel!
Hezbollah, Hamas and Iran want to attack the West too....

Oreo Sun 29-Sept-24 11:28:44

If the (reduced) leadership of Hezbollah in Lebanon had any sense they would back down now and maybie live to fight another day.
The other sensible option is to ask for a ceasefire and in return they will manage to get the ( more than reduced!) hamas to hand back any hostages still alive to Israel.

Oreo Sun 29-Sept-24 11:29:43

Terrorists and extremists are rarely sensible tho.
