Deed not feed Grrrrrrr
Good Morning Wednesday 6th May 2026
“We are killing like we haven’t killed since 1967”
This man seems to have his tentacles everywhere, another story now of him loaning £1.2 million to Siobhan McDonagh.
I fear there is more to come.
How can a government be honest and upright if the MP’s are in Lord Alli’s pocket?
Deed not feed Grrrrrrr

My goodness Sago - how low will you stoop to stir negativity. The chap did a very generous thing for his dying best friend, and was reimbursed.
He has not been reimbursed yet.
The original house needs to be sold once probate has been settled.
I have no idea what Alli is after, but I do not believe he is particularly altruistic. He worked for Robert Maxwell, and made an immense fortune very quickly. We shall see.
We saw during the pandemic who benefitted from being a Tory backer. Contracts were given out by the Tories to their 'friends'. This is why I don't like freebies being given to MPs.
Lord Alli may be just being kind but I think what happened with the Tories has tainted the giving of gifts.
I'm not Labour bashing as I believe freebies to be immoral for any party.

I hope that wasn't meant to be an answer yo my question, because it certainly isn't.
But I infer that you don't approve of people who make immense fortunes. That's good to know....
Stonewall is pushing trans agenda.
LW Alli was voted the most influential political figure of the decade, in 2005/6 by Stonewall.
Obviously the fact that by Stonewall standards he is referred to as political figure, means he is not a benign charitable friend.
No doubt he is that also to some.
He has been heavily involved in the media including tv, and we all know the media is the mouthpiece of whoever pays the most.
He as was mentioned above has having had strong links with both Robert Maxwell, and Elizabeth Maxwell.
Along side the mentioned gifts he also gave £10,000 to Sue Grey's son to help facilitate a career as an MP.
Just a few of the many faces that LA has worn over the years.
Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not a partisan abuser, I'm quite sure the Cons. have similar people in their backgrounds.
Just lets not be hoodwinked by our hopes that the side we support are any different.
Politics is a dirty business. The sooner the sunlight of truth is shone into the festering dark corners the better.
We have to put our big girl pants on and realise that we are being manipulated by all sides.
The sooner the better.
Oh dear.
Could you expand Trueloveways?
My apologies, the executors are awaiting probate before the loan is repaid.
He worked for Maxwell publications, in 1988, aged 24year he moved to broadcasting. 1992 merged with Bob Geldof to form Planet 24 which was reported as extremely successful
So much, so young
When I signed my contract I had to promise not to receive gifts from the public. Many other workplaces insist on this and it is the ethical thing to do. So why is it alright for MPs to take freebies.?
It is immoral to take gifts for doing their job when they are well paid.
I find it worrying that so many think that this acceptable. It is unethical and plain wrong.
And it appears he can't even give his money away to causes which mean a lot to him.

Same here, but my friends were still allowed to help me out.
Seems he shouldn’t have friends in the Labour Party, this is so childish now
It’s custom and practice AGAA4, how politics has probably always worked. I don’t think it’s approved of by many people outside the system except those in big business who operate in a similar way?

The Conservative Party doesn’t have donations ?
Frank Hester alone donated a total of 15 million, yes, 15 million pounds.
And he got contracts worth £135 million from the Dept Of Health And Social Care.

He must be regretting his generosity now.

Doesn't make it right though. It's open to abuse.
Its about time it was cleaned up on every side.
It is unethical if someone provides something in expectation of receiving something in return to which they would not normally be given. . So far I have not read anything that leads me to think that Lord Alli has done this.
Frank Hester who has given millions to the Tory party has received government contracts worth more than £400 million in just 8 years and has raked in millions more than he has donated to the Tory party. I think that is unethical.
Michelle Mone, received a govt contract of £203million just months after giving the Tories a donation of £50K via a company which belonged to her husband which had assets of just £49k. I think there's something very questionable about that and now there's a criminal investigation so I'm not the only one.
When Lord Alli is subject to some investigation suggesting dishonesty or impropriety I am prepared to change my mind about him but ATM all I see and read is completely unsubstantiated slurs on his character based on absolutely nothing. Come forth with your evidence or move on.

I agree, it’s not a system I support either. However, as long as politicians are operating within the rules they aren’t doing anything wrong in the eyes of parliament or the law - maybe the only thing that will force change ultimately is sustained media pressure.

Hmm ... Lord Alli is known for Muslim and gay, as well as supporting Labour. It appears he can't donate to Labour, so maybe he should give donations to Muslim or gay causes.
I just find it a bit sickening when large amounts of money are spent on those who are already well off while people are worrying about heating their homes and having enough to eat.
Lord Alli can be Father Christmas to MPs if he wants but is he entirely benign?
That would be much more honourable growstuff.

Why single out him particularly though, he’s not the first, he won’t be the last, and we don’t know about the real motives of any donors, either to parties or individual MPs? When the system itself is what’s wrong tightening the rules or ceasing it altogether are the only options available I think, otherwise we are just railing against a system that operates within the rules, and that won’t change anything.
