Lord Waheed Alli, has he bought the government?

This man seems to have his tentacles everywhere, another story now of him loaning £1.2 million to Siobhan McDonagh.

I fear there is more to come.

How can a government be honest and upright if the MP’s are in Lord Alli’s pocket?

Seems he shouldn’t have friends in the Labour Party, this is so childish now

He must be regretting his generosity now.

Hmm ... Lord Alli is known for Muslim and gay, as well as supporting Labour. It appears he can't donate to Labour, so maybe he should give donations to Muslim or gay causes.

he has done already, so what is your point?

Anniebach Thu 26-Sept-24 20:11:06

He should be confined to Muslim and Gay actions and support?
good grief,

Wyllow3 Thu 26-Sept-24 20:21:21

Namsnanny,

"In 2008 he won a Stonewall Award for the category of political figure", not as you've posted. Not "the" political figure etc etc

It was for for his work on gay rights in parliament both for gay rights laws (age of consent to be the same as all) and in promoting the rights of gay people to marry. Frankly, unless you are anti-gay, his work in that area has been admirable.

He has not been involved in Stonewall policies on transgender rights. He has not been involved in activism on this.

Please give any evidence that he has

and as for hints, "means he is not a benign charitable friend.
No doubt he is that also to some". What are you suggesting?

Check his biography on wiki which does outline in some detail how and when he has been involved in gay rights issues.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waheed_Alli,_Baron_Alli

And yes, of course he is "involved in the media". It's his career. As are figures from all political backgrounds - so what?

AGAA4 Thu 26-Sept-24 20:27:22

I'm not singling him out. He is the subject of the thread. I know there are many others.

AGAA4 Thu 26-Sept-24 20:29:10

That was for Casdon

I was just wondering how many pearls Muslim and gay causes would cause to be clutched.

Actually he supports youth and apprenticeship charities. I guess that's OK.

AGAA4 Thu 26-Sept-24 20:31:07

It's those who accept donations who are to blame mainly.

Anniebach Thu 26-Sept-24 20:31:16

So much buying and selling with the Tory Party seems now it’s expected of every political party

ronib Thu 26-Sept-24 20:33:58

There’s a clear connection between Quadrature’s £4 million donation to the Labour Party and the appointment of Rachel Kyte as the UK government’s climate envoy.
As everyone knows? Quadrature is an off shore tax registered hedge fund with investments in fossil fuels. Kyte is a co-chair and I think she is keen on carbon capture but let’s wait and see.
No I didn’t make it up.

ronib Thu 26-Sept-24 20:35:00

I like Lord Alli. He could be a good person.

Casdon Thu 26-Sept-24 20:35:31

That’s the whole problem, isn’t it - it’s all the parties, and the vast majority of the MPs who are involved with this. I don’t think there is any appetite in Westminster to change a system which has underpinned the political system for centuries.

I think in reality you are deflecting by using satire/humour. Which begs the question of why?
If you are so sure LA and the LP are pure than snow, why deflect?

Tut Tut, if you have something to say, why not come out and just say it?

It’s endemic ronib, it’s only a few months ago that Michelle Mone’s husband was found to have donated to the Tory party, and there are loads of other examples. Dressing these donations up as scandals, when it’s allowed within the rules is disingenuous. The real question is what can we, as voters who don’t approve of the way parliamentary funding schemes operate, do about it?

I don't know if he is or isn't ronib but he does want a state run press/media, and anyone who wants to take freedoms away from the public makes my blood run cold.

This is the truth. This is what I wish people would explore.

What on earth are you referring to Namsnanny?

but he does want a state run press/media and anyone who wants to take freedoms away from the public

like no Daily mail, Guardian, GB news, etc etc, one star run media source like Russia?

Frankly, I dont believe you. Reliable references, please, if you are going to make that kind of allegation and have credibility.

Wyllow3 Thu 26-Sept-24 21:00:29

State run media not star.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Sept-24 21:14:42

Same trough, different snouts…

OldFrill Thu 26-Sept-24 21:28:27

He actually suggested, about ten years ago, that it might be beneficial to have a state run press regulator. He also suggested they should be a limit on the number of newspapers one company could own.
All this is now being regurgitated and twisted - not least, it seems, by Namsnanny

A bit hyperbolic don't you think Wyllow grin

BTW you may remember you became very upset with either me or other posters a while ago, lets try not to become antagonistic and upset each other, it doesn't bode well imv.

As for links refer to one of his speeches in the HOL.

Thats just silly, you choosing to be using inflammatory language.
I'm just quoting and listening to others.

Wyllow3 Thu 26-Sept-24 21:36:49

That's not actually answering my point, is it Namsnanny?

Your determined to create an argument it seems to me.

Wyllow3 Thu 26-Sept-24 21:55:49

I think it's fair enough, pretty standard in discussions, when someone makes a contentious point in news and politics threads, such as

" but he does want a state run press/media, and anyone who wants to take freedoms away from the public makes my blood run cold."

To request information and references on the source of that point.

Look forward to your link.
