Will Kier Starmer time as the head of the CPS, ( 2008 to 2013) involve him being questioned with regard to the Al Fayed scandal apparently it was during this time they, the CPS, decided there wasn't enough evidence for a prosecution. We shall wait and see🤐

She did the right thing, but I don’t think it courageous , she won the seat when Corbyn was leader so perhaps very much to the left ?

Allira Sat 28-Sept-24 20:48:32

I don't think she is.

She is very principled.

Galaxy Sat 28-Sept-24 21:13:42

No she isnt a Corbynite.

Anniebach Sat 28-Sept-24 21:18:14

I respect that she has principles and this has caused her to leave the party but I really don’t think she is courageous, courageous for me remains staying in the party as Robin Cook certainly did

Casdon Sat 28-Sept-24 21:19:54

She’s a controversial figure, within the party and locally in her constituency, has been since she was first elected, but I agree with Galaxy, she’s definitely not left.

It's beginning to look like the foundations of Starmer's leadership are cracking.

I can only hope for an avalanche of dissent that will force him to resign and set in motion a leadership contest.

I didn't vote for an android Tory hell-bent on another programme of crucifying austerity.

Galaxy Sat 28-Sept-24 21:38:45

I view her as brave due to her stance on womens rights, and support of single sex spaces, she spoke up at a time when few if any MPs would, she faced awful online abuse because of it.

Anniebach Sat 28-Sept-24 21:52:07

Yes that took courage but not the reason she is being applauded for here

BevSec Sat 28-Sept-24 22:36:36

Mae13, me too.

I agree GrannyGravey. She has followed her conscience and that is commendable.

Sarnia

He is the gift that keeps on giving, isn't he?

I’d say both the media and some GNs are the gift which keeps on giving!

MayBee70 Sat 28-Sept-24 23:16:00

She obviously never got on with Keir and knew they wouldn’t work well together. Perhaps she should have stood as an independent?

Anniebach Sat 28-Sept-24 23:16:32

Definitely Cossy

I don’t have any strong feelings about her one way or the other, however I don’t agree with MPs from any party crossing the floor, particularly so close after a GE.

I think the rules should change and a by-election held.

Rekarie Sat 28-Sept-24 23:22:57

Cossy.

Media and social media. X, Insta, Tiktok ... everywhere you want to look.

He really is being annihilated online.

Anniebach Sat 28-Sept-24 23:23:24

She had disagreements with Starmer before the election, why
stand for a party one doesn’t agree with the leader ,
Thinking more on this and reading posts again, brave or cunning ?

Anniebach Sat 28-Sept-24 23:24:42

Exciting news for Starmer critics, his sexuality is now main topic

Rekarie Sat 28-Sept-24 23:31:52

..before the Labour gathering in Liverpool – originally billed as a chance to celebrate its return to power after 14 years – Starmer’s ratings had collapsed 45 points since July to -26 by last weekend (with 24% approving of the job he was doing, against 50% who disapproved). Conference week, however, saw a further drop of four points to -30

Opinion poll of public don't seem to be keen on him either. He experienced the opposite of a bounce at the conference.

I've read about that, Anniebach, all sounds very bizarre. Something about his past private life I believe. Which I'm not remotely interested in.

I've also seen loads of posts saying he'll be resigning on Tuesday, but I can't see that happening either

Wyllow3 Sat 28-Sept-24 23:42:52

He's done some things I'm not happy with, but the barrage of twisted half truths and speculation and sheer lies on MSM and SM completely appall me.

This is how I feel. I don't think he's got everything right, but I also think that even if he had there would have been people/media sniping and twisting everything he said or did to make political capital - some outright nasty and others pretending to be even-handed. I peeped into X earlier (I don't usually) and was shocked. Even the bitterness on GN seemed tame by comparison.

It's hard to know what to think - the nastiness has been so overdone that sensible criticism is more difficult to spot.

Regarding RD - I think she was very badly treated over her trans views, and I'm sad that she's not going to be able to fight for women's rights from within the LP; but if she doesn't feel that she can stay, then of course she should resign. I feel bad for people who voted for her to represent them within the LP though - the election was less than three months ago. She might have done better by her constituents to give it longer, but it's her decision.

Wyllow3 Sun 29-Sept-24 00:54:36

People did choose her as the Labour candidate, and when there is 5 years ahead I think it should be a by election. If she's liked and respected she may well get in as an Independent.

MayBee70 Sun 29-Sept-24 01:05:48

Whatever people think of Labour and its leader, what this country needs now is a period of stability. Why are people trying to prevent that? Or am I being paranoid?? People calling for a leadership challenge! Have people just got used to changing PM every 5 minutes and a cabinet that’s a game of musical chairs like it’s the norm? In fact wtf is going on?

nanna8 Sun 29-Sept-24 01:53:35

Get rid of him. He is a disgrace and he will never be respected. Best to do it quickly and lethally than let it fester.

It really does feel as though the attacks are orchestrated. I’ve never known anything like it before.

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 04:26:31

Doodledog The attacks on Liz Truss take some beating?
Why should MPs not call out in a parliamentary democracy? I think RD has made some very valid points in her resignation letter. KS has every opportunity to respond. So what is the next move?
