A woman of integrity.

Wonder who the alleged hate mail and threats were from

The trans lobby have been vile to RD. She was brave to stand up to them, and to put up with the lack of support from her colleagues.

She could have stayed in the Labour Party , many female Labour MP’s do speak up for women , she keeps her job so no
hardship for her , Ruth Smeeth left the Labour Party because of antisemitism in Corbyn’s Labour Party, she lost her seat a few months later, in a general election. she should have waited those few months

She was brave for standing up for women. I don't see getting elected on a Labour ticket then resigning in less than 100 days as brave, though, particularly when the things she has criticised the LP for doing are 100% within the rules - that comes across as vindictive and attention-seeking.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, and one brave act doesn't make treacherous ones into bravery.

Standing up for women was brave. Some in the Labour party do not seem to like women at all, and Rosie referred to that. She has received hate mail and threats - and she still spoke out. An incredibly brave woman. Well done Rosie!

I remember the story saying the Queen supported remain because she wore a blue and yellow hat.

Forgotten which newspaper though.

Great hat, though!!
😁

So the Prince of Wales was having an affair, the Princess of Wales had withdrawn from public events because she had a facelift in January ? I didn’t believe these lies then and don’t now

eazybee Wed 02-Oct-24 09:07:37

Very few stories are made up or completely untrue; what happens is selective reporting; prominence given to some parts of a story, others discarded.
And the world listened to the comments about the green trouser suit.

The Press doesn't need any help in making up stories; it's all happening here.

The media-all media doesn’t need any help in making up stories and everyone, on all media is convinced that theirs is the only true version.
It’s what keeps discussions going.

Casdon Tue 01-Oct-24 20:12:37

The world doesn’t listen to Gransnetters eazybee - and there’s a difference between speculation and lying.

That was all over the media, and given the design of the hat, and the fact that she wore it to the opening of parliament in 2017, I’d say they were spot on myself. Go Queen!

As someone that couldn’t complain about the initial headline saying she supported leave it was pretty clever imo. The problem with the first headline was that it possibly affected the outcome of the referendum and was therefore imo dangerous. By the time she wore ‘ that hat’ the damage had already been done.

Oh yes I remember that outfit and don't believe it was pure coincidence! There was room for denial built in should it become necessary but I'm as sure as anything she was making a statement. She did have a wicked sense of humour.

Checked. Express and Guardian came up first. Presume tongue in cheek, anyway.

The latest headline seems very real. Unfortunately. Difficult to make it up.

^ronib - it’s really an incontrovertible truth that our print media is skewed to the right. The Mail, the Sun, the Telegraph, the Times to name but a few. GB news is definitely right leaning..^
And the Guardian, the Observer, the Mirror, the Metro, The Independent?
Iam64,Why this obsession with labelling everything Right or Left wing? And pretending newspapers make up stories? The reputable ones don't need to, and the lies come from these peculiar online news 'distributors.' which are even infecting my rarely used mobile.
Readers are able to discriminate; there are so many news sources available, and the public has far more common sense than you give then credit for.

I seem to remember one of the tabloids having a front page spread saying ‘ The Queen supports Vote Leave’. Wasn’t that a made up story??

Casdon Tue 01-Oct-24 18:16:00

Which newspapers do you class as reputable eazybee? There are perhaps two or three of the ones you named that are in my opinion, I’d be interested to see if we would choose the same ones?

Iam64 Mr Ronib is very exhausted today advising generally. Best not ask.

ronib Tue 01-Oct-24 17:53:23

Casdon. Chill. I don’t think for one minute that the media worries about full and factual reporting. Its business model is to make money for its owners regardless of political affiliation.

Iam64 Tue 01-Oct-24 17:48:47

Perhaps Mr ronib can advise

Casdon Tue 01-Oct-24 17:47:53

You’ve not answered your own question again ronib, what do you personally think is the reality? This was your question.

‘The media is simply skewed. Just perverse? Neither right nor left? Must be its business model?’

Iam64 Tue 01-Oct-24 17:47:42

I suspect it’s because we can read the papers on line
