‘BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg's scheduled interview with Boris Johnson has been cancelled, after she accidentally sent the former prime minister her briefing notes.
Boris Johnson: The Laura Kuenssberg Interview was due to be broadcast on Thursday evening on BBC One.
However, the BBC's former political editor said, external it was "not right for the interview to go ahead" after sharing notes with him which had been intended for her colleagues.
Kuenssberg described it as "embarrassing and disappointing", but that "red faces aside, honesty is the best policy".
The BBC said it had agreed with Johnson's team that cancelling the interview was "the best way forward".
Johnson is currently taking part in media interviews to promote his new memoir, which has also been recently serialised in a newspaper’.

The BBC's political journalists shouldn't be involved in book promotion events.

I'm thankful this interview has been cancelled.

Oooops!

MayBee70 Thu 03-Oct-24 11:52:03

Why was my first reaction one of suspicion hmm?

maddyfour Thu 03-Oct-24 11:52:09

I doubt the BBC wanted to promote Boris Johnson’s book. More likely bite the jugular.

maddyfour Thu 03-Oct-24 11:52:43

I don’t know Maybee.
Why was it?

His no.1 fan, Laura K is more likely to tickle his tummy than bite his jugular.

They had considered it important enough to move Eastenders for a special slot, so I don't think it as a go for the jugular moment

That is a ball to drop, a big interview being pulled on the day it was due to air. I do think Laura Kuennsberg was incompetent if she let that happen, and it would be good if the interview is rescheduled with somebody else - there are a lot of ‘sensational’ claims which bear some scrutiny.

Not by the BBC though.

pascal30 Thu 03-Oct-24 12:24:35

That is unusual for her.. I wonder what she was going to ask that has caused this cancellation..

Grantanow Thu 03-Oct-24 12:27:15

Just another opportunity for Johnson to push his book so it's good it's been cancelled.

An interesting observation. Who do you think should scrutinise the claims Galaxy?
The only one I’ve seen mentioned so far, on CNN, was that the book claims that the Queen died from a specific cancer, which breaks royal protocol.

I wouldn't have watched anyway.

I am not sure Casdon, an organisation that knows what it is doing? If I find one I will let you know 🙁

Grandmabatty Thu 03-Oct-24 12:53:21

Aye, right. She probably sent it to him but copied in a colleague who has picked her up on it

Thinking about it, it 'may' have been a jugular question and, as a result of knowing it was coming, Johnson has pulled out of the interview..

Remember how he spent a lot of his time avoiding the press? (apart from the friendly ones like Laura K...)

Wyllow3 Thu 03-Oct-24 13:21:04

I dont think BJ is likely to suffer - more publicity....I wouldn't have watched but am curious as to claims made in the book and a fact check...

😬how embarrassing

Gyles Brandreth wrote in his book that he had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma, bone marrow cancer.

That was a couple of years ago now

Anniebach Thu 03-Oct-24 14:24:47

Johnson was the PM not a family friend

I believe that repeating a rumour you have heard and saying that’s what it is, and stating something as a fact are different Rackarie, that’s why it was picked up.

Spot on. She’s sucked up to him for years.
